Well here he is my friends, Little Buddy the Train. Not Little Buddy the Conductor, he is an actual train. I think he wanted me to make him into a real train, but I explained to him that he is a boy and can't be a train, but I would do my best to make him feel like a train. All went well until his light fell off about one house away from mine, no worries Little Buddy was fine with it. Sorry about the last blurry photo, it was the only one I had with the light on.
He had the best time trick or treating. Actually he was much more interested in ringing peoples doorbells than the actual candy part of the whole thing. I think he made many people smile in my neighborhood. We hardly had any trick or treaters so he was even more in demand than usual. I was a bit upset with his school, no costumes allowed on Halloween day. While I understand that Halloween isn't everybody's thing they usually have character day from a favorite book. I was going to have him be The Little Engine That Could, because frankly he is just like that, trying hard, I think I can, I think I can, I think I can......
The Aunts returned to Florida for the winter just in time for Halloween. They joined us on our walk about the neighborhood, so did the biggest brother who has never been trick or treating with us before because he has always been away. Little Buddy had a grand time and that is all that matters. He told me he was going to be a train after his nap today because now he can be a train a lot! Yup Little Buddy, you sure can.

ReplyDeleteGreat photos. Those first two -- too fab. I love that he wanted to be an actual train. Sounds like a great time. I'm disappointed in the school too. A bunch of us Moms with kids that have "Aged out" of school parades were lamenting those little walks around the playground in full kit, grouped by classrooms etc. They are so pleased with themselves, their costumes and friends.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great costume! Best looking train ever:) I think it's silly that Halloween has been shelved at schools, too. Adults have made it into this creepy holiday, and then the kids lose out. It's all just supposed to be fun. Glad you all had a good time!

Our first year in the US, the kids loved wearing their costumes to school. I loved getting up half an hour early for face paint slightly less but they looked cute and couldn't wait to get to school.

ReplyDeleteBuddy looks great in his train costume! I love it! he looks so happy and like he had fun on Halloween. Too bad they did not have anything for Halloween at his school. I remember when I was in elementary school I loved to dress up and we'd have a Halloween assembly and I'd look at all the costumes and we'd get candy from the teachers. It was so much fun! looks like Buddy had a lot of fun and nice his family came for Halloween. Have a good weekend!

It is fun for the kids to come to the homes they've only seen in passing. It's terrible, most of the homes here in the city have a good 6 steps to the porch. The poor little girls in their princess costumes looked so disheveled (the price of being beautiful and stylish, I guess)!!! I ended up sitting on the porch with my bowl of candy to hand to these brave little kids (45 degrees!).

ReplyDeleteWell, he certainly did make a very believable train. :) When my oldest boy was little, I started collecting all things trains for him and he had a conductor hat, too. I think I liked it all more than him because he grew out of the train phase quicker than I would have liked.

When my oldest son was little he was so upset that I didn't name him 'Nike'!!!! lol Halloween sounds like it was a fun time for you and the best bit....ringing the door bells. ReplyDeleteThat is the most perfect costume. I love the metallic streamers - once he gets up a head of steam, I can see the streamers flapping, like the steam from the locomotive boiler streaming back over the train as it speeds along.
ReplyDeleteThe angle at the front of LB's walking frame remind me of the old fashioned cowcatchers of steam locomotives. You've done a fabulous job with the train costume (I can hear the railway purists in my family saying that it really is a locomotive costume and it won't be a train until there are some carriages hitched to the loco!) As long as LB is happy, that's what matters.
Our kids don't dress up for Hallowe'en at school but we do have "book week" where school children go to school dressed up as their favourite literary characters. It is interesting to see how the children will sometimes blur tv and film characters with book characters. A sign of the times? Many schools in South Australia celebrate "Harmony Day" and the children celebrate multiculturalism by dressing up in the traditional costumes of their ethnic backgrounds and share recipes from different cultures. Then, there are sports days where children wear their house colours and in the winter, there is often a day to raise money for charity "Show your colours" Kids pay a small coin donation to wear the colours of their favourite sports teams.
Kids need fun days like that at school. How sad that some schools in your area no longer keep a dress-up tradition.
