A Tuesday Finish

Even though I have been obsessed with weaving there has still been a wee bit of knitting going on.  Knitting is in my blood, it is part of me, so there always has to be a knitting project going on.  

This is my finished Kiribati by the Berroco Design Team.  It is a free pattern so if you are a knitter I'd print this off as fast as you can.  You will love it, it is very simple but lots of fun.  There is a fun design element on one side that keeps you awake while knitting, but it isn't anything tricky so you can zone out a bit too.

I made this with the lovely Jo Sharp, Silkroad  Aran yarn that I bought when my LYS went out of business.   I can not remember if it was 50% off or 75%, but either way it was a steal.   And since sale yarn is really only a bargain if you really use it, I am trying to make the most of my yarn purchases.  

I adapted the pattern a bit as originally this pattern is made for a cotton tape yarn.  My Aran yarn is much denser, with less drape.  I used size 10 1/2 needles and made the pattern in a size large.  I did not want tight, I wanted a bit loose and flowing. It ended up a little less flowing that I would like, but I think it still works.  Remember the color of this yarn looked gray in some light, and greenish or even a little bit blue in other lightening, so it has a perfect name, Opal!

The one thing I was unhappy with was the constant joins in the middle or end of the skeins.  I really can't stand that, it should not be a surprise to be knitting away mid row and come across a join.  Sale yarn or not, I expect better from Jo Sharp, especially as it states, "Luxury Hand-knitting Yarn, Unsurpassed Quality," right there on the label.  I did persevere and made it through, and actually finished sewing in the ends and steam blocking it last night.

This will be for much cooler times, which in Florida can be a bit limiting.  Even though made for colder weather I still wanted to show it to you with what Caroline the Dress Form had on.  She loves her white t-shirt and skirt even though I have told her many times I would like to wear the skirt every now and again, she simply will not take it off.

As I can be a wee (or a lot) obsessive about a pattern or project I simply had to make it again.  And after much cruising through my stash, and a trip to the yarn store, I decided to make it in the yarn that it was intended to be made with,  Berroco Karma.  My yarn store in Tampa did not carry this yarn so I ordered it online.  Nothing makes me happier than a package of yarn arriving in my mailbox. 

So I will be casting on tonight for a bit of pink, yarn tape, fun.  This yarn is so soft and fluffy, it feels like air, it will be perfect for the hot summer months here in Florida.  The color is soft and beautiful, I can't wait to see it all knitted up.

I am playing nursemaid today as my Teenager had his wisdom teeth extracted this morning.  I am running up and down the stairs getting him pain medication, ice packs and jello.  Boys are never too old to be fussed over.  At least I am getting some exercise.
