Boring, boring and more boring

These days I am just so boring.  I do the same thing everyday, working, taking care of Little Buddy, doing paperwork, running errands, and cleaning.  I swear I am so bored with myself I can't stand it.  And I am sure you are bored with me, too.

Seriously how many more of these can you take?

Yes another one completed, and that is just pathetic as these two are the only ones I have completed in a week.  Yes other boring things are taking up my time.

I can't even count this one as it is made from the end of one skein of yarn and the beginning of another one.  I am trying not to waste any yarn, so this one will be mine.

The basket is filling up, but much to slowly.  I wish my hands would fly and that I would be able to knit and drive at the same time.  I waste so much time driving, I could be done with 40 of these by now if I could do the two things at the same time.

My garden is overgrown with weeds and dead plants.  I need to spend time out there but who has any to spare?  I had to creep in and get these pictures to make you think I have a lovely garden to look at, really it is quite pathetic!

So how about a few quirky things you might not know about me, as I have no real projects to show you and I have to talk about something.

I am obsessed with having loads of toilet paper in my house, and I mean loads.  If a natural disaster strikes I will be able to supply my neighborhood for several days.  I am getting that way about diapers, too.

I am a bit obsessed with having a clean house, especially a clean floor.  If my floor is clean then I feel my whole house is clean even if it isn't.  Little B is on the floor a lot still, seeing the tops of his dirty socks as he crawls around makes me feel ill, so out comes the mop, again.

I simply cannot pick out a senior picture for my 17 year old.  I know it is because I am not ready for him to go away to school.  I figure if I don't pick it out he won't graduate.

Speaking of not being ready for him to go, we are taking a 24 hour tour of schools starting this afternoon.   We were supposed to do this at the end of the summer but tonsillitis and tonsil removal changed our plans.  Did I already say I am not ready for him to go?

I miss Mr. 20, everyday, how pathetic is that?  I think I am supposed to be over this by now.

I cannot text.  I hit wrong keys, I can't proofread it if I don't have my readers on so I look like I have had a few drinks every time I text.  Actually once Mr. 20 asked me if I was drunk texting him, did you know there was even a phrase like that?  It made it even funnier as I don't drink alcohol.

I am a tech loser, I am old school.  I don't want to Tweet, Instagram, Facebook or anything like that.  What happened to a good ole blog post or a phone call?

I think I was British in a past life,  and Little Buddy calls me Mummy, with a bit of an accent so he must have been too.

Max is getting older, I cannot even think about it.  I love my boy so much.

How about you?  Anything quirky you want to share with me?

  2. I can't imagine you being boring! Bored at times yes, we all are. I am so bored with myself right now also. So I don't know if it is the time of year or what! But saying that...boring can be good sometimes. With an ill (cancer) parent I will take boring as everytime I think about being bored something comes up. Nothing real major luckily,(so far) but scarey at times.
I seem to go in streaks about feeling bored. Season changes seems to be about the time that I get this way.
Your flowers are beautiful! We are at the ragged time of the bloom season here. It won't be long until everything will need to be cut back. :( Not looking forwward to that at all.
Just look at Max's face. He reminds me so much of my Tiffy. It is so hard to see them age. But what a beautiful boy!

  3. Oh LAWD . . . I could fill up your whole blog with what is quirky about me.

As for missing Mr. 20-year-old....I am right there with you. I know it's not right and it won't happen, but I would have NO problem with Mr. 31-year-old moving back home and living with me forever. (Won't happen, shouldn't happen, but that's how I think ...should we count that as Quirk #1?)

Your Max looks so sweet. I can just imagine how soft he is to pet.

Can I be British with you and Little Buddy? I may not have been born British, but my Dad's Mom was and I ADORED everything she did.

Hope you have a good weekend. You aren't boring ......this is just how our lives as Moms sometimes plays out.

  4. You had me at the toliet paper!!! Just too stinking funny!!! And I can not even imagine how hard it is to send your kids away. The thought of it makes my stomach upset! Oh and you and little Buddy being English is so awesome! With ya pal....I am so old school as I don't do anything but email and blog posts! Wish there was more time in the day as well!! Happy weekend to you! Nicole xo

  5. You made me smile also, I too am not into technology and have only in the past couple of years learnt how to use a computer. It does take time getting used to your children leaving home, it leaves a big gap in your life but it brings lots of happiness as well when you see them happy and achieving it just takes a little time. I now have an empty nest and I am thoroughly enjoying it.

  6. I have felt extra boring lately and hope things change. I want to get inspired and back to blogging more but life keeps getting in the way. Oh and I was NEVER ready for my kids to grow up and go away but they did and I survived and now (many years later mind you) I'm a Grandma and I love it!
    hugs,

  7. Oh I'm obsessed too. I like my towels folded nicely and neatly. So I rather put them on the rack (in school) by myself than have it done by my colleague. I almost had a heart attack this morning when I heard the dryer. The towels look so bad afterwards crumbled. I really want them on the rack! It makes me feel good if I open the cupboards and here they are properly stapled each of them looking the same. However, I do not iron them! ;-) To much work, too much electrical power.

  8. Oh, and I am not bored with you and your many wash clothes. :-)

  9. I can so relate to the everyday routine. Your garden looks very pretty and I like the dishcloths you are knitting, very neat. I'm also "old school" and don't FB, Tweet, or instagram. Max looks like a sweety, our pup is still bouncing off the walls most of the time. Have a nice weekend and enjoy the college visits. Heather

  10. Oh Meredith…you are so much fun !! I just love you to pieces. Have a great weekend !!

  11. Oh Mer, how can you be boring? How can your washcloths be boring when they are such fabulous colors? You've had a very busy (not all pleasant) year with many ups and downs. I think you need a break. It is hard to have children grow up and leave. My husband and I are now empty-nesters and enjoying it though and our son stays in regular contact with us which makes it so much easier. Hope you can have a great weekend.

  12. I once saw a car so full of toilet paper packs that the child was only visible once he emerged from the car.... You wouldn't like my floors, they are old wooden plank floors that easily gather dust and crumbs. I would love new floors. Sometimes, I quite like being bored, a sure sign that things are running smoothly! Max is cute. We are getting a puppy in three weeks! Cx

  13. How about this quirkiness.. I love your posts even when you think you're boring. You are so funny! And I could only wish to be as clean and tidy as you. Stuff does not bother me too much. I don't tweet or Instagram.. but I do FB as I was there before I started blogging.. and now I usually only FB to say I've done a blog post.. lol! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  14. Gosh, yes, letting your boys go is so difficult, my younger one is off to University this weekend (as well as older one who went last year) - not looking forward to it. Your garden looks gorgeous - or is it just very clever photography?
    Have a good weekend
PS I don't think you are boring!

  15. Mere, you are never boring! I loved this post....we all have our little quirks don't we, it's what makes us interesting! I cannot relax if the floors aren't clean in my house either...it's an absolute must.

  16. Old school tech loser here as well, we have much in common I think. I have an open day to go to next week for senior school (from age 11, next September). I cannot bear to think about any more permanent going away, I shall never get over it either. And I'm glad it's not only me that has no time. Honestly, where does it all go? I took the biggest boy to have his plaster off today. We left the house at 9.45am and didn't get back until 2.45pm, 30 mins before I had to go and get the others from school. So that was Friday gone. But have no fear, I hear driverless cars are coming. We will all be able to sit with our feet up and knit while we're propelled effortlessly through the traffic to our destination. Wishing you and yours a good weekend. CJ xx

  17. I simply loved this post. I can so relate. When my kids were home and in school, all I did was drive, drive, drive. I kept a book, blanket and small pillow in the van when they went to high school because football games, band competitions and band trips always seem to end late at night. I don't think you are quirky at all. In fact, I have a lot of those same quirks.

    Hugs,
    Sharon

  18. So funny!
I was ordering something online for my son and had to yet again think up a user name and password. As I was nearing the end of the thing and proving I was not a robot by typing the number thing that pops up, I said, "Oh, I need to write this down" thinking of the user name and password. My son, thinking I meant the "prove you are not a robot" number, looked at me in a pitying way. "Mom, you don't need to write that. You will never see that same number again." Really? Really? Did he really think I was THAT bad at technology?

  19. You are definitely not boring. I had to laugh about the clean floor comments. Is it not true about the only way a woman judges the cleanliness of her house by the white sock test. I love a clean house too, but refuse to be a slave to keeping it clean. I still want it clean, just never organized enough to have a schedule to do things. You know those pretty little Monday through Sunday tea towels...sure ya do, we all do, life has never been like that for me, I am like a fart in the wind, I am all over the place....while dusting the roll top desk, oh, look what I found here, hummmm, oh was that the washer, the clothes must be done, and oh, that paper basket needs emptied....my life.

  20. When asked what was new, my Grandma used to say "Same old baloney, just warmed over" I guess life feels like that sometimes. Same old boring stuff. You, however, are not boring my dear.
I feel the way about paper towels as you do about toilet paper. When I get down to a few rolls, it makes me obsess about going to the store. Ha!
My boy is going back to school next week and I'm trying not to think about it :(
Love that doggie face. You can tell he's a good old soul.

  21. I looked and looked, and saw nothing boring in this post. I'm not much for technology either. I don't especially like to talk on the phone, but I much prefer it to a text or an email. And forget Facebook; I haven't logged on in nearly a year. Too much drama and unhappiness, no thanks!

  22. I wish I had your obsession about clean floors. "Drink texting" cracked me up. I'm quirky about folding clothes, especially t-shirts. I hate to unload the dishwasher, it's my least favorite chore. I do like to iron. Not only do I talk to my dogs . . . but I talk for them, so they talk back to me. It makes my son CRAZY, so I love doing it even more!

  23. It's okay for us to be a bit boring at times or do the same thing day after day. Once we are rested, caught up, tired of ourselves or our routines, or have an awesome opportunity, we usually break out of our imposed ruts ;-).

I know what you mean about knitting all those dish cloths. I love knitting dishcloths and usually stick to very simple, square ones. I find it very soothing and relaxing.

    ReplyDelete
  24. No, NEVER boring Meredith. Both of your washcloths look great. I use bits and pieces a lot in cloths I keep for myself. I still miss each of my kids everyday and they've been out of the house 15, 13 and 7 years respectively. I hate to tell you that you never stop missing them, but a new stage of life does begin and you inch your way through it and find that you CAN do it. Your hearts screams "no you can't!", sometimes, (I'm going through that right now with Mandy's impending move to D.C.). But, I know as with all the other life changes, a new normal will begin. Love all of your quirks my friend. Don't we all have them? It makes us who we are and we love you, just the way you are as Mr. Rogers used to say, :-)
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  25. You are anything but boring my dear! I am the same way about my house. Especially having clean floors!!!!! My kids say I am like aBritish school Marm.
Hmmm, I wonder what they mean?

  26. I love you, Meredith! Seriously! I laughed out loud at you and Little B being British. Ha! And sweet Max, that face is just so handsome! I still find it very strange that my oldest is away at college and that he doesn't need me every day. I'm old school, too. I like that I am able to text Yusef whenever I want to stay in touch, but I am so sick and tired of seeing people driving and talking on their phone; driving and texting. What's even sicker is when you see cops doing it. Yep! Happens here. Now that's pathetic. You are certainly not boring. Busy, yes. As you can see, I've not blogged lately. Not enough time for everything. I'm going to send you an email now to say THANK YOU! xoxoxoxoxoxox Tammy

  27. I always look forward to reading your posts, you are not in the least bit boring!

I had to smile when you said LB calls you Mummy, he would fit right in here in the UK (which we still are now Scotland has voted not to leave us).

I can so relate to you not being ready for the lads to leave, I am very blessed as my lot are still at home as we are very lucky to have many universities within easy travelling distance for all possible subjects of interest - in fact, son number three is off for his induction tour later today.

    Have a lovely weekend, Helenxx

  28. Sometimes it's good to be a little bit boring!!
Especially if it means that you write all those funny and very understandable things about yourself ;-)...

  29. A lot of the time thee every day routine is really what our lives are about. That's mine recently. At least you have the ability to look at yourself and laugh! I'm not great at that. I enjoyed reading about all your quirks. I can't even think of any for me. I'm either way too boring or have no sense of humor at all.
My gardens are finished right now. I was out pulling out plants for the compost last night.
I'm sure I managed to knit 4 rows on a shrug this week and a mandala I'm crocheting is still on the go.
I think it's sweet that you miss your boys. I was happy to let mine move out but I sure do miss them all now.

  30. Hi Meredith, Where do I start, first of all you are NOT boring, maybe you feel boring, but not to me. Maybe you just need to not be so demanding on yourself and smell the roses! Oh boy it is so easy to suggest to someone else......I need to do the same thing! Love listening to your life and all your remarkable yarn makes. I still miss my kids and they range from 31 to 38. Just part of being an involved mom.
Oh, by the way, I feel British too, goes way back....maybe we are related too! : )

  31. Fun post, Meredith! Not at all boring! I also stockpile TP, and can't text worth beans without my reading glasses on. I cringe to think of some of the things I have said to people without meaning to, all because I couldn't see the letters as I typed, and auto-correct decided to mock me.

About thing being boring right now. Hold onto this phase. The good side of boring is that it means there aren't any major disasters happening.

  32. Hi Meredith, just catching up now that I am back, I have been reading if not commenting. Sorry to hear that you are feeling like this right now. It sounds as though you have a lot on your plate again with all the looking at schools thing and all that this next change will bring to your lives, it is hardly surprising that you feel rather blah. I hope that once the college visits are over and a decision has been made you will feel better about it all. It is so sweet that Buddy calls you Mummy no Mom, I wish that you were both English too and that it meant that you lived here! Take care of yourself my dear, thinking of you. xx

  33. You are such a good blog friend, you are so honest. I am feeling much the same way lately. I too feel the same regarding technology. And I just about cried when I received a hand written note from a 16 year old and she wrote it in TEXT! Help...my quick is, will people know how to write anymore?

    Thank you for listening.

  34. I'm with you on the tech stuff... and I don't think these beautiful dish cloths are boring in the least... I believe simple repetitive tasks are healing. AND, my daughter (the oldest) has been own her own for almost twenty years now... I wish I could say it gets easier (it does if they are not states away... as a matter of fact, you come to like them being out of the house if you can still get to them in a couple of hours!). Good luck with the school visits... smooth travels, informative interactions, good information...

  35. ps I STILL love the dish cloths in the basket!! =)

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm with Tanna. I still love seeing the dishcloths on your blog. Even the mixed color ones are pretty to see. It's very hard to keep a clean floor with a big dog in the house. I used to have two of them in the house so I know how quickly they get dirty. You could have worse quirks than stock-piling toilet paper and cleaning the floors. Beautiful picture of Max!

    ReplyDelete
  37. They might feel boring, but what wonderfully happy yarn for those dish cloths! Doesn't it make you happy just to see it?

TOTALLY with you on technology. I am on Facebook, sort of, but only vaguely understand how the rest work but not the point.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Awe Meredith , you are growing children into men..that's HARD good work. YEs it is repetitive and boring but its is real meaningful work.
You don't' have to be over your son going to college…I cry when Al leaves or we leave her , each and every time. WE love them deeply!

Don't worry about the weeds growing…
so you want to keep the floor clean..that's admirable and necessary too.

Wishing you some laughter…..and some fun knitting time

    ReplyDelete
  39. Then we must all be boring Meredith, we all do the same things over every day, thats life I suppose, Those dishcloths are certainly not boring, if you are feeling a little tired of making them put them on one side for a while and do some of the table runner, alternate a bit of this and a bit of that. It's always hard when your kids leave home, I miss my youngest everyday but we phone each other all the time, I'm missing my daughter too, since her hubby came over, mother and daughter time has gone right out the window and I feel sad and then I feel selfish because she waited so long to get him over here. I had to laugh about your Toilet rolls, I suppose I'm the same with boxes of tissues I can't bear the thought of running out because they can stand in for everything else if they run out if you get me haha have a great Sunday Meredith. xxx

    ReplyDelete
  40. I love reading your blog! You're certainly not boring!! Those dishcloths are gorgeous, so colourful, and make me want to knit :) Can totally relate to the garden, ours consists more of weeds than flowers at the moment and in places you cant see the paths... have a lovely sunday :)

  41. Your posts are never boring! I'm struggling with our Mr 18 about to leave, I have a mass of tissues at the ready, I think both hubby and I will be in tears - I'm not ready for this yet!
I sometimes comment using my phone and then I read them back on the computer and they make no sense! I also accidentally signed up to instagram, I now have lots of followers but have never used it!!

  42. Sounds like your life is going well -- busy and full. I just watched the "baby" drive out of the driveway heading back to college. He had stopped in for a couple of nights after a job interview in Chicago. My youngest will graduate in December and be a full-fledged adult (assuming he does get a job). Life is full of changes, and it's easy to get bogged down or overwhelmed at times. I'm feeling overwhelmed at the moment with other family issues, so boring sounds pretty good to me.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oh, I'm SO with you on the tweeting, facebook, instagram stuff! Blogging is the closest to social media that I do, and I'm sure I'm seen as 'old school' for it, too! Oh well! (Though I do text, mostly because I detest wasting too much time on the phone!) =)

Hope you had a wonderful weekend!
