October 10 is I Love Yarn Day

October 10 is I Love Yarn Day.  And while I am ready to celebrate my love of yarn today, I am ready to celebrate it everyday.  Working with yarn soothes my soul.  I really am not sure what I would do without it.  I choose to crochet, knit and weave, and they all involve using yarn.  I love the colors, the different fiber contents and the smell, yes there is nothing like the smell of wonderful yarn.   There are some yarns I have not loved, and of course projects I have hated, but for the most part yarn is a huge part of my life.

The combinations of colors, stitches and patterns is endless.  I am never ever bored if I have yarn with me.  The search for beautiful projects in books, magazines, on Pinterest, Ravelry or my favorite in blogland is almost as fun as creating the projects.

I have always said that yarn is a lot cheaper than therapy, and the positive results are faster.  And of course I think that life is to short for cheap yarn.  You will pay for it in the end.  So why not treat yourself to yarn you love to touch, yarn you love to work with, and of course yarn that will make your end product worth all of your hard work.

Ironically I am on a bit of a yarn diet this yarn holiday.  I am only allowing myself to buy more yarn to make the crochet blanket I have just started.  Tomorrow my best knitting friend and I are traveling to a wonderful alpaca store to see their yarn for her birthday.  I have been there before and hear it is even better now.  I am going for the visual beauty not the buying potential.  Maybe I need to leave my wallet in the car!

So Happy I Love Yarn Day to all of you who love yarn as much as I do.

  4. Alpacas always remind me of Dr Doolittle for some obscure reason!!I love everything about your 'yarn day'. Visiting an Alpaca Farm is a great day out; even better with a friend.Have fun.

  5. I love the different shades of gray in your balls of yarn. I'm afraid I am still into buying very inexpensive and sometimes acrylic yarns. I am still a newbie and I find buying all kinds of yarn rather expensive if you want to keep a proper stash on hand. For example, I've made a double bed spread (almost finished) and I could never afford to do with with good quality yarn. The acrylic will wash up nicely. In future years though I hope to make some wearable stuff and I can splurge a bit on the occasional item. I do love to knit whenever I find a bit of time.

  6. I love yarn every day, too. The red alpaca/silk 50-50 that I'm using on my shawl right now is the most luscious stuff ever! Have fun at the alpaca place and and I bet you buy at least one skein.

  11. Next to fabric, yarn is it for me too. I also carry a knitting project everywhere I go, especially as a passenger in the car. While I love to look at it I can't wear wool except on my hands and feet. I'd be list without it there as nothing else will warm in the winter.
I use quite a bit of cotton and silks for other projects.
Have fun today! It sounds lovely.

  12. If it's your friend's birthday you should share in the joy and take your wallet with you. Maybe you didn't realise that diets are illegal on birthdays. And it seems criminal not to mark I Love Yarn day with just a little something. Remember, it's good for you. Hope you have a wonderful time. CJ xx

  24. Happy I Love Yarn Day to you too! I also love yarn. I didn't always; I found crochet very difficult and forget knitting, but I've come to terms with both in the past few years - crochet much more than knitting so far, but there's still time. :)

  26. I dying to know if you came home with any alpaca yarn! I'm actually a little afraid of alpaca because people say it really stretches.

I agree with you on the quality yarn thing!

  30. I had no idea there was a 'I Love Yarn Day', I love yarn too. I agree with your statement that you get what you pay for and good soothing your soul yarn is well worth the price.
When I first came back to using yarn I was buying cheaper yarn, which is okay but by paying a little more you have yarn that deserves to be worked.
I am going to a Christmas Crafts event next month and I am sure I will be picking up luscious yarn and holding it to my cheek to check out how gorgeously soft it is. I am not on a yarn diet either, my stash is not that big yet lol :-)
