Thank you for all your lovely comments about Old MacDonald and his John Deere tractor. I have to admit the tractor is looking a bit worse for the wear right now, but Old MacDonald simply won't let his Mother take all the decorations off of it yet. Little by little it is falling apart, so little by little I am taking them off. If something falls off Little Buddy will say, "Oh No!" with a bit of distress in his voice.
We have had a nice cool weekend, the perfect way to start November, although I stayed in all weekend and did not get to experience it. I am feeling better, but just tried my hardest to stay in and rest. Now rest means putting Halloween away, taking Thanksgiving out, cleaning, changing sheets on all the beds, doing laundry and catching up on emails and blog reading.....but I did make myself take a nap on Saturday!
I also had a finish. I actually made myself get my loom out and finish the table runner for my SIL. It seems like I started it ages ago. She arrived here yesterday for her six months in Florida and I thought I had better get it off the loom and ready to give to her. I think she really liked it and was touched I made it for her. Here have a peek.
It is a little shorter in length then I wanted but it will still be perfect for her table which is square.
This picture is actually pretty true to color. The table runner was made from approximately 475 yards of Berroco Boboli Lace in the color Bon Bon or #4312. I loved how it turned out.
And because I can't leave my loom empty, and of course I was supposed to be resting, I got it all prepared to make another project.
This will be my first time using two yarns at a time, and my first time using cotton yarn with my loom. I was thinking two nice tea towels and a few flowered dishcloths might be a nice present for my friend Lynda for Christmas. As she has just downsized and has gotten rid of so many things I want to make her something she will use. I will have to see how they turn out before I decide if they are good enough to give away. I can already tell that the cotton is not as smooth to use as wool, but it should be durable, just what you need in the kitchen to wipe your hands on.
Wish me luck.
Your table runner is beautiful and your new project on the loom looks very pretty so far. Hope you are feeling better and are able to get some rest in with all the housework. Have a nice Monday, Heather
ReplyDeleteThe table runner was lovely and I'm struck by the pink and white on your loom! I enjoy your blog so much, thanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteThe table runner is beautiful, I love the colours. Well done! I used to have a loom when I was little but I don't know where it is. I have a friend who is a tapestry weaver, she makes amazing things on her loom, portraits for example (http://emmajowebster.com/). I am glad you got a bit of a rest, sometimes life is a bit overwhelming, particularly when you have a bug. Cxx
ReplyDeleteHope you are feeling better Meredith! Your table runner is GORGEOUS!!! I'm interested to see how your towels turn out. I don't think my friend has used cotton yet either...just wool on her loom.

ReplyDeleteThe table runner colours are gorgeous. I always cast on a knitting project straight after a finished garment otherwise I lose the momentum so I can totally understand the loom obsession. Jo x
ReplyDeleteThe table runner is gorgeous! I love the pink and white you've chosen for the next project. I'm so glad Little Buddy had a great time with his 'tractor'!!

Your sister-in-law is going to just love that table runner. What a lucky woman. The colors are so gem-like. I can well imagine that weaving with cotton will be a bit tricky at first, but I know you will do a great job with it.
ReplyDeleteNow, should you require some hints on how to curb that cleaning, housekeeping urge that grabs you, rest assured that I can steer you in the right direction. I am an expert at turning a blind eye (oh, how appropriate at this time, ellen!) and have many fail proof hints to give you. After living with a man for many, many years who has no trace of a compulsive streak in his body, I have learned to let many things go and have acquired an arsenal of very successful avoidance behavior skills.

ReplyDeleteSounds like you're feeling a bit better, Mere. Glad to hear it. Love that tablerunner and Boboli yarn. Your new tea towels are going to be really pretty, too. What pattern are you using for the flowered dishcloths? I just finished my first "Almost Lost" and love it! Fun pattern.
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine how much your SIL is going to love and treasure that runner. Amazing work Meredith. The new one looks as though it will be a treasure also.
ReplyDeletePoor Old MacDonald. It's hard to be a toddler and expected yo just enjoy the fun of pretend one day a year. miss Piper is wearing her Doc costume, (jammies), to bed tonight again. Yes, we have washed them. :-).
Try to take some time to take care of yourself dear Meredith. If you don't, how will you be able to continue to take such good care of those you love?
Blessings,
Betsy
What a wonderful treasure, a handwoven cotton hand towel! And the runner is fabulous, my dear! You are a treasure of a friend to give those to others.

I am quite intrigued by your loom work Meredith, I would think it is quite a relaxing past time to weave the threads.
ReplyDeleteI love the table runner, it's so pretty and looks great against the wood of the table.
I was quite surprised that it was under 500 yards of yarn, I would've expected it to take more than that.
xx
Hi again!

My son is home schooled and just learned how flax is turned into linen. I admire the entire looming process. This is such a lovely project.
