Some things are worth bragging about, some things not so much..........

I have been decorated for Christmas for weeks........but still do not have my tree up.

I finished wrapping presents yesterday.........but my wrapping skills are completely rubbish.  I should take more time to do it right but I really don't care.  It is a big joke in my family, I can create some lovely things but simply can not wrap.

I try very hard to not buy more yarn..........

But I was so intrigued at the hat I made my son for Christmas, and how the yarn pooled I thought I might try to make myself a cowl.  I did use every yard of yarn I recently bought in Ohio for gifts, none was added to the stash, so I deserve this don't I?

I try hard to be a Superhero.........but that job is already filled at my house.

24 hours ago.......

12 hours ago..........

This morning.
I try to be patient for my Amaryllis to bloom.....but find I just can't wait for its beauty to unfold.

I tried to be patient yesterday at Little Buddy's small concert in his room.  He was a pistol!!!  He did not sing, he pestered the child next to him and tried to steal his bells.  Then I took a deep breath and looked around.  Not everyone was behaving.......and I am just happy he is a pistol because that is what is going to make him move forward with all his disabilities.

He did do very well meeting Santa.  He even tried on Santa's glasses.

I am not so great with all the Christmas stuff, I am a grouch that is for sure.  But my cards are done, the presents are bought, wrapped and shipped.  I am in a better place than usual.  Now it is just time to relax and enjoy.....but you know what I am not so good at that either.

How are you doing as the days until Christmas grow shorter?

  1. Morning Meredith,
What a great post. I had a few good chuckles over the picture of Little Buddie in his chair with his reindeer crown. He does look like a king a bit displeased with his subjects....lol. I'm glad he has lots of spunk:) I work with adults with disabilities and I'm always amazed at the perserverance of some of the people I work with. I enjoy your posts so much, I'm glad you share bits of your life with us strangers out here:) Wishing you a very Merry Christmas

    Bestest,

    Mary Lynne

  2. Swapping glasses with Santa! That's pretty great. And yes, I'd say you definitely deserve more yarn. Happy holidays, Meredith. :)

  3. You know my feelings! I think your wrapping looks pretty darn good. Hubby has just done his and the parcels look way better than the ones I wrapped, leaving me to wonder why I am the chief wrapper in the family! A womans work and all that! I love that Buddy still has his tractor signs on his walker - sorry, tractor! - he must love them and they are surely of great help to any superhero! Happy Christmas! xx

  4. Good Morning Meredith. I had to laugh at your wrapping because it looks just like mine! I am terrible at wrapping gifts. Little Buddy sounds like an absolutely normal little guy. He know his own mind and exactly what he wants to do. I hope you can just relax and enjoy the remaining day until Christmas.
    Blessings my friend,
    Betsy

  5. I can't wrap either!! I have no patience whatsoever with it. Little Buddy is such a character :) Sounds like you are getting there with all the christmas malarky, I have two gifts left and then I am done :)

  6. Everyone needs a super hero in the house. I'm glad Little Buddy is there to play the role. :-)

I think you have done a marvelous job of getting everything done for Christmas, especially considering you have a job, a small child, and the fact you make so many of your own gifts. The fact you aren't a brilliant wrapper is trivial. :-)

Merry Christmas to you and your family! I hope you have a joyous celebration together!

  7. I think all little boys are "pistols" at times. They seem to be most "angelic" when asleep. :-) Sounds like you have accomplished a lot. I wrapped my husbands gifts this morning and am going to make peanut butter fudge shortly. There are still gifts to wrap, but I'm working on it and don't want to put too much pressure on myself or I'll get stressed. Enjoy your day and I'm looking forward to seeing the cowl you make with your new yarn. Heather

  8. I don't like much wrapping presents either. It seems barely worth the effort when the wrapping gets ripped off so quickly as it does in my house... I stopped work yesterday and spend the afternoon baking, a perfect way to get in the spirit of Christmas. Our tree is still wrapped in the porch, waiting to be taken inside... tomorrow maybe, winter solstice must surely be a good day to put a tree up. Happy Christmas to you and yours, Christina xx

  9. What's the big deal about wrapping? It just gets ripped off anyways. Right! :) I like the idea of using fabric and dishtowels as gift wrap. Then the wrapping becomes a gift, too. Better than buying paper just to be thrown away. All my friends know that I recycle everything I can, so as soon as they unwrap something, very carefully, they ask if I want the paper or tissue or ribbon back. Ha! I've trained them well.

I always found it very strange that we expect young children to perform and to behave in a certain way. They are kids with different personalities and should not be expected to be happy or compliant or personable all the time, or even at times when we believe they should be on their best behavior. What fun would that be? Nothing better than laughing at little ones who are acting out on stage without a care in the world.

I haven't bought yarn since July. I'm thinking it's about time for me, too, though I have to say, I still have tons and have been working my way through it quite well all these months.

And just for the record, I do believe you are super-dee-duper! Hugs, Tammy

    Merry Christmas, sweet girl.

  11. Tell me 'bout wrapping skills - mine are non-existent!! Can't wait to see more projects with that beautiful red wool you bought, I know they'll look amazing!
And great to read that your kid had a good time, too!
Wish you a lovely weekend! xx

  12. Don't be so hard on yourself. It sounds like you're doing just fine! Little Buddy cracks me up, he really is a pistol. How funny. The glasses-swap made me laugh out loud, seriously. I'm terrible at wrapping and my husband elevates it to an art form. He's like the most careful, meticulous wrapper in the world. It pisses me off, frankly. ;)

  13. Mere, you inspired some true and hearty Ho Ho Ho(s) from me as I read this post. It is such a special delight to be involved with little ones...whether they are naughty or nice isn't it. Yesterday little Miss Molly came to visit me for a reading lesson. I looked up to see her waving around a set of my empty knitting needles...needles that had held a scarf that I had started 3 or was it 4 times! Mercy! She offered to help me put the stitches back on and she said she was sorry and I told her it was OK, I would put the stitches back on myself...which I did...a miracle! I can not wrap either...or rap for that matter. And if there is anyone who deserves more yarn, it is you in my opinion. You use what you have so beautifully, and your creativity radiates in so many wonderful ways around you as you craft and share crocheted gifts and
lovely ornaments that nest in homes across the miles. Thank you so much for the love you invest in me. It energizes and encourages me to pass it along.
Wishing you and yours comfort and joy! xx

  14. I did all my wrapping this morning, my tree is up, my baking is done. . . but the ONE package that I have to mail (and I purchased everything for it weeks ago), has yet to be sent. I don't know why I do this. Now I'll have Fed Ex it.

I always felt better when I would see my kids as preschoolers in a room filled with their peers. I realized they are all so much alike! So cute.

  15. Happy holidays Meredith. I do enjoy seeing your photos of Buddy and hearing about him. Yarn is an essential item to have in the house, just like bread and milk. I hope Santa brings you some more yarn to add to your stash soon. xxx

  16. Always great to call in and hear your news even if festive stuff is not your thing, being there for Buddy and being kind to others does seem to be your thing - so enjoy Christmas with your family. Love from Jo xxx

  17. Meredith, you're a star, you have the big stuff covered. The details like the tree - not important. You're raising a superhero, that's a top job, don't sweat the small stuff. And when people unwrap your beautiful gifts not one of them will care how they are wrapped. You should be proud of it all, especially the part of it that is wearing a cape. Oh how I love to see little chaps in their capes. Invincible indeed. Wishing you a good Sunday. CJ xx

  19. Because I am in Aruba I had to get everything done before I left and what didn't get done...oh well. It is kinda freeing to just say there is always next year. AS long as Tiger has his gifts I'm good this year!

  20. Meredith.. you wrap how it should be.. easy to get to! I think you need to give yourself a big deep breath and say OOOHHHHHMMMMM... it's all good. We missed your at the party yesterday.. but we raised a glass to you. The gifts I meant to make were so bad I had to hang the one "ugly sweater" ball on my own tree.. lol. Big huge lovies to you. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  22. Don'g forget to breathe..who cares if the packages don't look like those on the cards..who cares if the dust bunnies have found homes. Twenty Christmas' from now I hope I am remembered by the smiles and laughter in my home, not so much if my gifts were wrapped well, or my house is clean..I have better memories to make. Give your little guy a hug from me..and Merry Christmas.

  23. haha wrapping is very hard sometimes ! I am sure a lot of us are not perfect! I am still finishing knitting gifts so I am a little frazzled right now unfortunately. I wish I had started earlier! next year I will learn :) I am almost done my boyfriend's scarf! I have a couple days left to knit it up. I am almost done my Christmas shopping just a few more things to buy then I am done! hope you are enjoying the festivities with your family.
    take care,
    Lisa :)

  24. It is so great that there are 2 super heroes in your house - LB and YOU!!!!

Too right that you deserve that yarn, I hope you get some well deserved crafting time over the holidays.

I love the pic of LB looking slightly unimpressed with goings-on he looks so sweet!

  25. Who cares what the wrapping is like I'm with Tammy it just gets ripped off anyway, mine is much worse than yours thats for sure. Yes of course you deserve a cowl Meredith or even two or three after all the gifts you have been making. Little Buddy looks so good to me sitting quietly in his chair bless him, I love the look on his face in that last picture. Try to relax and enjoy but I know where you are coming from I can't seem to do that either. :) xxx

  26. I'm afraid your sister has the same bad wrapper gene. I start out fine and end up impatient and I can't wait to get it over with. I just don't care.

Little Buddy is a pistol, but what a cute one!

  29. Oooooo!!! Can't wait to see that Amaryllis in full bloom! I'm as excited as you are. I'm definitely doing one of those next time. LB is just so sweet looking. I'm stumbling thru the days until Christmas. Not a thing going on here. Cap will be off Christmas Day and three days after for a change. We are going to make and decorate some sugar cookies tomorrow.

  30. Yay for new yarn! ;-) Amarillas are so pretty! I have some that were my grandmothers...who passed away about 40 years ago. A neat thing to have a live plant that was hers. :-) Little Buddy's visit with Santa is adorable! He looks like he was so into it. So cute! Hang in there! Christmas will be over soon! ;-)

  32. Oh my gosh, what a cute little Grinch LB looks sitting in the red chair!

Who COULD wrap an odd-shaped gift well? Your gift-wrapping skills look just fine to me. (By which I mean that they are exactly on a par with mine. And I'm okay with it.) :D

Seeing the amaryllis open is just like watching a miracle happen.

P.S. You always deserve more yarn.

  33. Hope that Santa brings you lots more yarn, Mere! Also wish you could see the photo of our 2 little GK shrieking in the arms of Santa; then you'd think the non-singing LB looks quite angelic.
Merry Christmas! And I'm an unenthusiastic wrapper, too. ;>)

  34. This is why I have gift bags, I hate wrapping presents . Going to do the other half of my Christmas shopping tomorrow, if I have to I guess! I made some brownies sans squash today. I have to get my butt in gear here or I will miss the whole thing!! I love your superhero we all need one! I can't imagine you sitting and doing nothing for very long. And we can never have enough yarn!!!!!!

  35. I am the world's worst wrapper. I think that gift bags were the best invention ever! And of course, I still have to wrap.

Hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas!

  38. HA! we have that in common. I can make lovely things, but wrapping presents is like spliting the atom to me. You can always tell the ones I wrapped from all the others. They look like a 3 year old wrapped them. Little buddy so dang cute!

    ReplyDelete
  39. You are very organised so can relax enjoy the last few days before Christmas. I have most things done but still need to do some baking. And wrapping. My wrapping skills aren't that great either. I am always in awe of my sister-in-law's wrapping! It's a work of art. So good that I'm afraid to spoil it by opening it!

  42. Loved this!!!!! HA!!! Loved it!!! Let's just say I brought all 3 beans into a shop today to buy a last minute gift for my sister and it was pure chaos!!! One bean started running in one direction as my 2 year old started screaming when I tried to pick her up and regain some control. So to me...Little Buddy is a pure angel up there! How sweet are these photos! And would you believe that it is a joke in my family too how horrible I am at wrapping gifts! I once worked at Pottery Barn and felt bad for how terrible my packages looked! Gotta love it all!!! Merry Christmas friend! May your day be filled with all good things! Nicole xoxo

  44. You are way ahead of me. I am so far behind with cards that I might just wait until next year. There is no way I'm going to get the Hanukkah lights up (yes, there is such a thing), but I have cooked all our traditional foods, so that will have to be enough!
    Have a wonderful holiday.
