Yesterday after letting Max out to bark at the pool I wandered over to my little container garden to take a peek and what do you think I saw? A strawberry plant missing strawberries that weren't even ripe yet! Now I thought my boy had waited to eat the ripe ones until they were just perfect but apparently he is not that discerning.
The evidence.
Only one tiny strawberry remains.
The perpetrator always returns to the scene of the crime.
Look at this guy blatantly searching for more strawberries. He got so excited yesterday when his Aunts came over for a visit he actually pulled a lettuce plant out of my container and he doesn't even like lettuce. Notice the black hole?
The strawberries have been moved to higher ground and I know you are wondering why I did not do it sooner, apparently I am not that bright!
Sometimes I forget Max is actually a dog, I mean he really is, even though I think he is a person with fur.
Remind me to have my strawberries up high next year so my boy does not think he can snack on his favorite fruit whenever he wants.
Have a great Sunday.
At least he can't climb! I have squirrels that like Brussels Sprouts! They are planted in a waist high tank. All gone! My one strawberry plant has no buds yet. So far that is safe.... I just hope that Max doesn't get a tummy ache from green strawberries!
ReplyDeleteWell ... strawberries ARE supposed to be good for you ... ;-) Maybe Max is just a health food nut!
ReplyDeleteThis post gave me a big ole smile on my face!
ReplyDeletelol when we still had our Nikita with us-she loved healthy food-she rarely ate empty calorie foods-when her and I went for walks I would take her to the wild blackberry patch so she could have a nice treat-lol she was always a person to us with fur too-hugs
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday Kathy
Good Morning, I am feeling better so I decided to try to catch up with my friends.I have enjoyed reading your blog and all of the happenings at your home. It is not fun when you have a sick one in your house. I really liked the color and pattern of your baby afghan. Take Care, Many hugs and Prayers from Your Missouri Friend Shirley
ReplyDeleteOh Mer, I just read back on what I have missed. Poor Little Buddy!!!! It is so hard to be sick. He needed his Mama!!!! I sure hope he is better now!
ReplyDeleteShame on Max! Little berry snatcher!
Love your new project!!!
XO Kris
Naughty Max! :) xxx
ReplyDeleteMax is probably thinking how nice it was that you were growing his favourite treats just for him. And at a perfect snacking level! Finally, he is thinking, I am being properly appreciated!!
ReplyDeleteInteresting! It looks like he likes the leaves, too? In our daughter's family, it's the youngest son who's the strawberry snatcher; he doesn't mind them green either.
ReplyDeleteA dog's gotta have his produce.
ReplyDeleteNaughty Max! I couldn't be too mad at him, since strawberries are MY favorite food. :) My chickens eat my strawberries before they can ripen, if its any consolation. Sometimes I set them free in the strawberry plants on purpose, just to eat the ones that never ripened. I laughed out loud at Max being let out to bark at the pool. The other day, I was behind a truck carrying a mattress in the flatbed. The car next to it had a dog sticking its head out the window, barking like crazy at the mattress for a good mile or two. It was so weird and funny, like the dog just knew that was NOT where a mattress was supposed to go. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a tricky little soul he is!!! I know a dog that loves to eat pieces of banana, but I don't know if he has tried strawberries. I will not be experimenting though as he doesn't need a taste for anything else that he isn't supposed to be eating. I hope that the new higher position for the strawberries means that you can keep the rest of your crop safe!!! I can see why you forget that Max is a dog, I forget sometimes that the dogs that I know are not real! xx
ReplyDeleteTo me Max appears more like an investigator examining the crime scene :)
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny. The culpret is caught RED handed! Max just knew that he need the vitamins in the strawberries! He was low on them! Not sassy, just looking out for his health. Your plants look great!
ReplyDeleteI say just let him have them all~ or buy him a bowl and hide them amongst the greens. They don't liVE long enough ! Spoil him
ReplyDeleteI had no idea that dogs ate strawberries. And Max looks so innocent!
ReplyDeleteI have a husband and 2 dogs that are naughty in the garden, they are all quite partial to strawberries and tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteI will try to remind you to plant your strawberries on higher ground next year....and maybe plant one down lower just for Max :-) ... now as for the lettuce...maybe you can train Max to pull out weeds instead...he is so clever! Please give him some love pats from me, Meredith. xx
ReplyDeleteYou'll have to plant a pot of strawberries just for Max.. and keep a pot of them high.. for you! Problem solved. I hope we can plant some strawberries here this summer. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteThere's ALWAYS someone who will get to the strawberries before you, it's the way of the world. I was going to ask you if Max ate lettuce as well. Clearly he's not quite so keen on it, but maybe it's a distant second. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteHa! Ha! I'm with Max on the strawberry thing, but I do prefer mine to be ripe. Too funny!
ReplyDeleteI hope more will grow for you now that you've moved them. We'll have to protect our from our pooch. I never would have thought they'd like berries. Have a great day, Heather
ReplyDeleteNice to see Max featured ina post, tho' sadly it is for all the wrong reasons! What a cad he is nicking the strawbs and a lettuce.....!
ReplyDeleteI'm just like you my cats get up to all sorts and it takes me a while to cotton on that I should just move the item....! Magic managed to nick an asparagus spear from my brekkie this morning. Clearly I am not that fast either pre-or intra-brekkie!
Oh Max .....You are SUCH an adorable and naughty boy. LOL
ReplyDeleteHA! This gave me a chuckle friend! What a cutie he is going back to investigate!! Wishing you more berries to come from higher up!! Happy week to you!! Nicole xoxo
ReplyDeleteThere is just no possible way to be mad at sweet Max. He can't help himself can he? Those strawberries are delicious, but the lettuce is a conumdrum. Lettuce is not nearly to tasty. I wonder why he chose to sample that?
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
Funny ! I like those stories ... he knows what's good !!!!! Have a lovely week !
ReplyDeleteOh no the strawberry thief!!! There is always something worse though......Milo would eat the whole pot plant!!! lol I'm not going to let Milo see this post!! Fingers crossed for strawberries.
ReplyDeleteCheers, Anita.
LOL! Well, he knew if he didn't get them first someone else might enjoy them. hehee. blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteHa-ha! He's a sly one. :) Have a great week. Tammy
ReplyDeleteCute Max.:)
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week.:*
That Max! No more strawberries, poor boy. I hope you get some nice ripe ones and maybe you will share one or two with him.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Sharon
It's the early bird (or dog in this case) every time :-)
ReplyDeleteAmalia

I wonder what a green strawberry tastes like? Aw, Max is a sweetheart!
ReplyDeleteOh, that sweet guy. I cannot plant anything within reach of my Newfies..and they have a very far reach.
ReplyDeleteSo behind here, I have missed a lot.
xoxo, Ellen.
Maybe Max is craving Vitamin C? :)
ReplyDeleteWow, just looked at your previous post and is that crochet top beautiful! I love charts too - so much more straightforward than paragraphs of abbreviations strung together with a bunch of parentheses.
Hope LB is all better now....
