My week has been even crazier than usual. My darling, beautiful Max has had quite a week. He has been rapidly deteriorating the last few weeks until Monday evening when my husband and son had to take him to the emergency vet. He was usable to stand on his hind legs at all. She gave him a shot, changed his meds and they brought him home. The next two days were horrible ending with Wednesday night when he had to be carried out to do his business. He could not stand up at all and appeared to be in a lot of pain and was not eating. We decided he should not have to live like this, Thursday morning reinforced this to us as he was suffering and couldn't move. My husband called the vet while I was at work and we scheduled our appointment to let him go. Wouldn't you know that while we were waiting for my son to come down to go with us Max got up on his own, walked across the house, went out side and did hid business without any help and walked back into the house all by himself. We were speechless! We took him in anyway to see if the vet could help him and he walked into the office independently, she gave him a laser treatment and we brought him home again. He is still unsteady but has been able to get up on his own all but one time when he required just a bit of help. He is not eating much, but I can still get some food in him so I am not panicking yet. I know it sounds like we were hurrying things, that was not the case, he was unable to move at all, panted all night and was in such distress. I think we have had a miracle happen, even if it is only for a few days, weeks or months I am blessed by every extra minute I have with him.
On top of all this I had the mother of all headaches that really should have landed me in the ER, but one of us in the ER this week was enough.
Little Buddy had his graduation for Pre-K, but it really wasn't legitimate as he is staying in that same classroom next year. My babysitter had to go and see it as I was at orientation for UCF for Mr.19. Apparently Little Buddy was messing with his tassel the whole time, she took a video of it which makes me laugh out loud.
A busy, busy, crazy, emotional and well crazy week.
Now for some time to rest before I hit the ground running tomorrow.
If you have a pet at home, give it an extra hug for me.
Meredith,
ReplyDeleteGive that sweet GOlden boy a huge hug from me.
Your life is just a bundle of stressors. I know the feeling.
Im so sorry for your headache too
One day at a time I chant one day at a time
Oh, poor Max, and poor you - that all sounds horribly stressful. I hope he improves and is not in too much pain. And I hope the coming week is calmer and head-ache free. Take care. xx
ReplyDeleteLots and lots of gentle hugs to Max and you. I know the pain of trying to do right by them but not hurry things along. You are blessed for each day, moment, second you have that beautiful boy. I hope your headaches are better this week, it's a rough time of year for sure.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Linda
I am so glad you have a little more time with your sweet Max. He will let you know when it is time.
ReplyDeleteIn the meantime, give him a extra little hug from us. He's such a sweet looking boy!
Happy graduation to Little Buddy!
Gosh, Mere, you've had some tough weeks lately. Here's hoping that your headache is gone and Mr. Max stays well! Hugs to all of you.
ReplyDeleteOh Meredith, it's so hard to know what to do. I don't think it sounds like you were rushing things at all. I'm so glad you have more time with you furry friend. One of my sons 'graduated' from pre-K twice -- we thought he would be going to kindergarten the first time, then decided to wait. Then when he got to kindergarten, he had a graduation from there into 1st grade. He was so surprised to find out that he didn't get to graduate from 1st grade! Up til then every year had been a celebration!
ReplyDeleteOh, dear. What a time you have had. I went through that with my dear departed doggie for almost two years. She was up then she was down then back up again. Such a hard time it was. I hope the headache is gone and things will be better this week. Hugs....
ReplyDeleteI followed Max and his adventures with awe. It sometimes happens like it with a pet but must be so emotionally draining for you. A big big hug. And deep breaths!

It sounds like your Max is a real little fighter and wants to stay with you all for much longer. Every day will be a bonus.
ReplyDeletePoor Max, he has had a time of it. We just lost our 14 yo boy a few weeks ago, started suffering too much. Hard when that time comes. I wish you could get your headaches under control. As a mother we just have to keep going sometimes and just can't take care of them the way we'd like as in a knock out shot. Sorry I haven't been around lately, it's been crazy since hubby passed. I'll try to be better. Love, A
ReplyDeleteA tough week for you I'm so glad Max has rallied a little for you xx
ReplyDeleteThinking of you Meredith. Seeing a beloved pet suffer is such a difficult thing. I hope Max is doing better this week. xx
ReplyDeleteSending you all a hug and hope things are a little better for both Max and yourself. Take care.
ReplyDeleteAw bless it breaks your heart to see a pet suffer I'm sure most of us have been there and can relate, I'm so pleased he's a little better and I hope he gets stronger in the days to come. No wonder you had a headache Meredith the stress and strain of what you are going through probably brought it on. I hope this week is better for you all, your flower pictures are stunning by the way. Sending big hugs for all of you. :) xxxx
ReplyDeleteMeredith, I'm so sorry Max has deteriorated. It sounds as if you are all doing everything you can for him, he is as lucky to have you as you are to have him. I'm glad he has rallied a little. Sorry about your headache as well, that must be absolutely vile. I suffer more with headaches these days and I know migraines can be completely debilitating. Well done to Little Buddy on his semi-graduation, and I hope the orientation went well. Hugs, CJ xx
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry, Meredith. It's such a hard thing to have to go through. Take care of yourself.

Oh bless him, and you too. It's such a hard time trying to judge when the time is right to let them go, isn't it? We don't want them to endure any unnecessary suffering but we want to have as much extra precious time with them as possible. I'm sure Max will tell you in his own way when it's his time. I will be keeping Max in my thoughts and wishing you lots of strength for what lies ahead. I'm sure you'll be cherishing every moment you have with him. xx
ReplyDeletewhat a week. You are amazing how you cope.Hope the headache doesn't come back and that you have a better week.
ReplyDeleteGood for Max! He is one strong boy. I'm glad he made that unexpected turn-around.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry that you had to go through all that with a headache!
It's so hard when one of our furry family members gets old and ill, breaks you heart. Hope he still has some quality time left. Hugs
ReplyDeleteSame here with Dug as with Max. Take care, and tell Max I love him.
ReplyDeleteOh Max, I'm so glad he seems to be a little better, our pets are so much part of our lives. Your poor head, I'm not surprised with the stress though, look after yourself xx
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for you week with Max. Pets become such an integral part of our lives and as they age, it's so hard. He is so pretty. Here's hoping he continues to do well.
ReplyDeleteSorry about your headache. But, bet LB had a great time at graduation. I can just see him playing with the tassel. LOL
Hope you have a great week.
Judy
Oh gosh Meredith. You need to get off the crazy train. Hope this week is less stressful!
ReplyDeleteWhat a blessing! Enjoy every moment ... as we all should with both our human and animal families.
ReplyDeleteOh, Max. Oh, Meredith. I know exactly how you are feeling. Enjoy that beautiful boy and hug him for me. Tell him when he's ready, Maggie will show him the ropes.
ReplyDeletePoor Max.. I am so glad he's gotten a second wind.. you can love and hug on him extra now. Buddy is getting lots of love from our older granddaughter right now.. the little girl is scared of dogs but even she's petting him. I hope that headache goes away fast.. you sure don't need that right now. I would love to see the video of LB at his school. My daughter was in a xmas program where her class sang "Little Drummer Boy"... she held her drum in front of her face the whole time and refused to sing. Sheesh. Get better my friend and hug Max for me. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteWow! What a turn around for Max. I hope he continues to do well. Tough times for sure! I remember a dog my family had when I was a kid that couldn't get up anymore and we took her to the vet to let her go and then she got up and walked into the vet. It's always so hard when they get to that point!
ReplyDeleteI hope your headache is gone and that you're feeling better!
I am so sorry that Max has been having such a hard time of it lately and that you have too. I hope that you are both now on the mend and that things are looking up. Of course I want Max to be well and happy, but I really want you to be well too so I hope that you can find some solution to and/or treatment for these dreadful headaches. Take care of yourself my dear. Hugs and all good thoughts to you and Max xx
ReplyDeleteOh, so sorry to hear how sick Max has been. What a worry! But I do hope he gets better and stronger each day. I once had to put a pet down and it was not a pleasant thing to have to do. But I couldn't stand to see her suffer either (it was terminal). Big hugs to you dear Meredith. Congrats to little Buddy. He is a character :-)
ReplyDeleteNo wonder you've got a headache. Quite a week. So let's hope for a more relaxed one. Make it happen! :-) Hugs, Regula
ReplyDeletePets cause us so much worry but bring so much love into our lives, I hope Max continues to do well. And I hope your headache has now gone.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Caz xx
Amazing Meredith! However I so agree with you.......it isn't fair to our beloved pets if they are suffering. Still I am so happy for you that you have a reprieve...how wonderful. I really hope he continues to do well.
ReplyDeleteHope you are feeling better too!
hugs
Amanda xx
Oh sweet Max! Bless him! I pray that he will continue to be okay and that when the time is really, really right, you will know for sure.
ReplyDeleteI was out of commission with a stomach virus that started Friday night. Now I have a urine infection and have had constant headaches. Really hard when we don't feel our best.
Hugs for you all.
Blessings,
Tammy
Oh my gosh...life just throws way too much at us at once sometimes, doesn't it? I am so sorry you're facing all this turmoil in your life right now. I think we should start calling your dog, Miraculous Max. Bless his sweet, beautiful heart and yours as well.
ReplyDeleteHope your puppy is recovering. The Admiral and I had to put down our beloved doxi, Happy, two weeks ago after nearly 14 years of love and companionship. It just takes time to heal. She was like our daughter.
ReplyDeleteExtra hugs have been handed out around here, and I'm sending you lots of hugs as well. I hope you have a much better week.
ReplyDeletePoor Max, and poor you Meredith. You must be so worried about your sweet puppy. Our dogs really do become members of our family, and as they age it can be hard to watch. I'm so sorry that in addition to Max's poor health you've been dealing with such a bad headache. The stress no doubt made it even worse. Hugs to you my friend...
ReplyDeleteAn amazing, incredible week indeed! Oh Meredith, you are one strong, resilient person. I am so sorry to learn that your beautiful Max (and family) are suffering as he ages. I hope you found relief for your headache without a trip to the ER.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a lull in all the crazy where you can catch your breath and reconnect with some calm.
As you know, my family bunny is also called Max. I sometimes lament that I get nothing much done while Max is about as I look around and see unfinished tasks. He nudges my feet and pesters me for attention and, softy that I am, I give in and very soon I wonder where the time went but I haven't 'done nothing' after all. Our pets are important too. So when I play with bun, I will be thinking of you and your Max and hope we can honour you both by playing wholeheartedly with love.
As you love your darling Max. Hugs xx
It sounds like you need a Rest, and soon. Try to find some whenever and wherever you can. Take Good Care.
ReplyDeleteMeredith, what a relief, I'm so happy for Max and for all of you! Give him a big hug from me - and take a hug for you, too! xx
ReplyDeleteHi dear Merdith, I know I have been absent in blogging but I read this post and just had to say how I can relate to Max's ups and downs. Thank goodness you have him a little longer. I don't think you overreacted at all. Jack has had an ACL injury and we have cancelled and rescheduled 2 times now. He acts like a 2 year old and we cancel then he's on 3 legs!
ReplyDeleteThinking of you and sending the hope for some R&R your way.
xoxoRobin
Dear Meredith, it's no wonder you have/had a headache.Poor Max. I'm so happy he rallied and you have so more time with him. Making the decision to let them go is always hard, but no one wants our pets in pain and distress. I will give Bandit some extra love today, even though he drove me crazy yesterday. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope things settle down a bit so you can take a breather.
Sending you lots of hugs and love,
Sharon
Hello Mere,
ReplyDeleteHope your migraine/headaches will get better for you, take good care of yourself, please, my friend!
Oh it was sad to read about poor Max, I really feel for him and his pain. I hope he stays with you all for longer still, he is such a dear and loyal dog.
Lovely to see your boys in the pool and good to know that LB is making progress.
Also nice to see your WIPs, love that big lamb you made. :))
Have a nice time,
Ingrid xx

Oh Mere, I'm sending you lots of love. I don't think it's sounds like you were hurrying Max at all. It just sounds like love that wanted to ensure he has quality of life and is not suffering!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry for your headache. I really hope you find some relief in your pain, physical and emotional. You have a lot going on and I just wish you some hugs and rest.
Grab as much love and laugh from that busy craziness as you can. It's definitely in there as you know!
I have an old girl Labrador Retriever. A few months ago she was not doing so well, to the point that I wondered if I should maybe buy a smaller bottle of her daily pills instead of the regular large one. But I bought the large, and she is almost to the end of it now and doing okay.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry for your headaches. I have suffered from this too (though maybe not as bad as yours) and know how infernal they can be.
Hang in there!
Oh Mere, what a scary and sad time you must have had. I'm so glad Max took a turn for the better. Give him a pat from me.
ReplyDeleteI do hope your headaches will improve someday. Mine seem to be linked to hormones and weather, both of which are very wacky right now. :|
Congrats to LB and good luck to Mr. 19 as he gets ready for college!
Hi Dear,
ReplyDeleteI see you have a very nice blog. Very nice post ! It keeps my eye. I wish you all the best and keep working! Wish you success ! Best wishes / Daria
I hope that this weekend finds you and Max both doing better. I know how sad it can be with a sick animal. Congrats to little buddy on the end of the school year. My little grandson just completed kindergarten. The times goes by so fast. Enjoy your Sunday and my best wishes to you. Hugs, Pat
ReplyDeleteDear Meredith, Im sending Max more love pats and you more hugs. I can imagine Little Buddy teasing his tassel...I mean really that is what tassels are made for...really :) I am asking the Lord to help you rest in Him, and provide relief from headaches. I hope the UCF orientation went well . I got home from a happy camping trip yesterday afternoon. We brought home a bouquet of feathers we found! xxxxxxxxxxxxx
