No more lectures, at least for a while.......

Autumn has not arrived here in Florida, we actually don't ever have much Autumn at all.  So last weekend I hung up my glitter leaves from last year in the windows in my family room/kitchen area.  I love to see them sparkle as they twirl in the air.  No other decorating has been done as of yet.  I am up to my eye balls getting my sons rooms cleaned up for painting and of course putting them all back together again.  Plus Little Buddy wants Halloween to come quickly, he is excited about Aunts returning and a potential visit from Aunt Claudia and Uncle Don.  If I put those decorations up now he won't understand why they aren't all here yet!

While getting organized this past weekend I decided it was high time my brothers children had the few items I have been holding onto for them.  My brother died 25 years ago this past September.  I had been keeping two trucks for his sons and these sweet leather shoes for his daughter.  I have packed them all up and they are on the way to Michigan and Chicago.  I will miss having them here with me but it is time they went where they were intended to go all along.

I was completely spoiled this past weekend when I got a box left on my front porch.  A gift from Araignee's Tangled Web.  Would you just look at all of this lovely soap, lotion and a foot fizzy.  I want you to go right over to her blog and and give her a shout out.  Araignee is amazing in all that she gets done and how absolutely, incredibly generous she is.  Really Araignee has giveaways all the time and frankly I did not deserve this as I have already won one of them.  Go over there right now, go and make sure you follow her blog so you can throw your name in to get another amazing bundle next time it is offered.  Thank you Araignee for your generosity.

Jennifer over at thistlebear is hosting a Winter Project Link Party.  I am going to join in again this year with much more manageable aspirations than last year.  My only goal at this point is to finish this sweater.  As you recall from a few months ago I am making Harvest by Tin Can Knits.  I am enjoying this sweater a lot but am having difficulty finding the time to knit it.  I am determined to get it done even though I have to admit I have veered from the pattern several times, not because I had planned to, I just got distracted and knit extra rows and such.  I am almost at the bottom of the sweater and ready to get busy with the sleeves.

I appreciate all of your comments on my last post.  I have to tell you I am a believer in free speech, you do not have to agree with me at all.  But if you are not nice, and frankly not accurate with your facts I will not publish your comment.  It is that simple.

Happy Autumn everyone, hope it is more Fall-like where you are!

  1. I love those glitter leaves! The cat would have at those I'm afraid so I'll just enjoy yours. So glad that Aunt Claudia and Uncle Don will get back this month to visit!! I'm anxious to see my oldest child and spend some much needed one on one time with her. The leaves are just starting to turn color here, but it's in the mountains where it gets really pretty!
    hugs!

  2. I'm sorry that people were not nice on your last post. I think that's ridiculous and I'd rather they didn't share their views if they're going to be jerks about it. Your giveaway prize is really cool! I haven't heard of her blog before so I will have to check it out. Those little shoes are lovely. It was very nice of you to hold on to those things for your brother's kids all this time. I hope they appreciate it. Your sweater is going to be lovely. I really like the color of your yarn. Hope you're having a good week so far, my friend.

  3. A lovely autumny post, despite your lack of actual autumn in Florida. There's a definite chill in the air here, time to knit, knit, knit. Good to hear the aunts are on their way, I know how your sweet little Buddy loves to spend time with them. Good luck with the decorating, it will all be worth it when it's done. I hope you have a good rest of the week. CJ xx

  4. Very pretty sweater. It's good you got your brother's items sent off to his children ... just a little bit more closure on such a tragic loss. I still need to sort through all the boxes that were damaged by water. I did some work on them but not totally. And then I need to paint the kids room and get a daybed to replace their bunk beds we gave away a couple of weeks ago. It's a process as you know. Our weather is like yours -- we are thrilled that our daytime temps are below 100. That's Fall here in the desert. :) Enjoy your gifts from Araignee. You deserve them!

  5. I love your leaves as much now as I did last year. Your sweater is lovely too. I never seem to make adult size sweaters. I got a cool box from Araignee too. She is so incredibly generous. I have been trying to post a blog to thank her for three days and blogger keeps deleting my posts. Why? I have no idea. It let me keep my blog list when it took others' lists away last week, but now I can't post. Oh well, I'll keep trying. :-). Have a wonderful day my sweet friend.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  6. Maybe you could make a little day chain (sort of like those Christmas advent chains) from paper and Little Buddy could take one off before bed each night. It would give him a visual of when Aunt Claudia and Uncle Don would arrive.

Then you could put up all your special fall decorations to enjoy.

Your mums are lovely. I usually buy some for our front porch, but I have a real good reason for not buying anything right now.

  7. Smart one to not confuse Lil Buddy. Kids dont need all that time for anticipation, its hard on them.
Your mums are lovely . Your sweater will be a great finish

  8. We don't get much of an autumn either, but it has cooled some. Painting is such a lot of work, not the actual painting, I actually enjoy that, but all the pre-painting and the clean-up. Pretty flowers. Always enjoy your photos.

I hope you are all back in line for the holiday giveaway. Production starts next week and it will be epic!

  10. What a wonderful post! I know it was difficult to let go of your brother's things but memories are all the richer for being shared.

  11. Gosh...I missed the last post again and you always have me so intrigued I want to rush over. I will. But I want to say congrats on your win...it's always an honor, and...your sweater is so great! I love that you have such pleasure and dedication in your crochet and knitting.

Relatives visiting is so exciting for kids...all of you will have a wonderful time! I hope he sees his fave relatives...ones that he can
count on for future visits. Kids need continuity, at least mine did. Or they had to warm up all over again.

Are you in the path of this hurricane? Sounds so ominous. In the fall months I won't even get near the East coast. I'm so lame! lol!

    Take care, my friend,

    Jane

  15. What lovely little shoes - a treasure indeed for your brother's children. Here in England our Autumn has been beautiful so far, lots of lovely sunshine. It's just beginning to turn a bit colder now which feels more natural. Time for candles and knitting - lovely!

  16. Thinking of you Meredith! I have just watched the news and heard about the hurricane that is on its way to your part of the world! Hope it blows past you .

    Take care now

  17. How lovely that you are sending those packages to ones who will treasure them.

We are finally getting some nice, cool, autumn weather. It feels so good to put on a sweater and be cozy!

BTW, your sweater is looking great - I really like that color.

Has Little Buddy decided on a Halloween costume yet?

  18. I love your leaves! They'll last much longer than the leaves did here!

Those shoes are adorable.. I love red shoes, and have a couple of pairs. And lucky you for your win!

I hope you don't get hit hard by Matthew. I don't think I could stand being in one of those storms. High winds scare me way too much.

    Take care! Maureen

  19. Those little red leather boots are very sweet.
I love your cardigan, a pattern I would love to wear but I am not sure about the knitting, long purl rows? Wishing you a peaceful evening or two for many rows of knitting. x

  20. Hi Meredith! Hope you are safe from the impending hurricane! I've been thinking about you as I watch the news. Sounds like you're doing some heavy duty reorganizing. I went through that a few months back, and it was exhausting but I'm so glad it's now done. It's like my house can breathe again. What's LB going to be for Halloween this year? I bet he is going to wear you down with his excitement, haha. The sweater is looking pretty!!

  21. Love the color of your Harvest sweater; that pattern's on my list, too. Hope you manage to avoid the hurricane; thinking of you and other FLA friends a lot. Isn't it fun to have a little one around; their enthusiasm for life is contagious!

  22. It's definitely fall here in northern IL. The air is crisp and cool, the leaves are starting to change colors, and there are fallen leaves all over ground. Don't be envious...our winters are brutal! In Jan and Feb especially, I love visiting my blogger friends that live in CA or FL and seeing their warm weather photos. Makes me absolutely yearn for that warm weather once again.

What lovely gifts you won from your blogger friend! I will definitely go over to her blog and pay her a visit.

I didn't know your brother had children. I've heard Claudia speak of your brother numerous times, but I don't recall her talking about his kids. How sweet that you're mailing them some beloved gifts.

  23. Love your pretty flowers, gorgeous fine knitting, and your generous win! I will check out her blog. xx

  24. We experienced some fall color in the Columbia river gorge last weekend. Not as much as we wished but it was still lovely. Lovely sweater color. Oh to have time to knit again. I have other things to do right now. I like your glittery leaves. So creative. I'm glad we live where there's 4 seasons. Lived in NM 10 years and not as much seasonal change as in OR. We had some rain and it's geeting cool! Hopefully no hurricane effects for you all. Happy hugs!

  25. I'm sure your brother's children will be thrilled that you've hung on to those items for them. I bet it doesn't seem two minutes since he was there with you, does it. It's been seventeen years since my sister died and I still miss her every day. I could quite happily live in a place without seasons, I'm never happy when autumn arrives, I miss the summer and hate the cold weather, perhaps I'd miss the seasons if we didn't have them though. What a fabulous giveaway you won, that package must smell amazing.

  26. I love your glitter leaves, we all need some sparkle in our lives. The colour of your cardigan is beautiful. I hope you manage to find more time to work on it.

  27. Gorgeous leaves :) And such a lovely giveaway win. Looking forward to following your progress with the winter link party! x

  28. One of the things I've always enjoyed about coming for a visit is seeing how you decorate your part of the world (and LB's sunny smiles of course!) I love the glitter leaves. Araignee is as generous as she is funny. I hope you find some time in that busy life of yours to enjoy some of her lovely relaxing gifts. As for sweater knitting ... that's just naughty talk lady! I'm going to make an effort this fall/winter as well.

  30. I'm sure your nephews and niece will treasure the items from their father. I don't do a lot of decorating for fall, but loved going all out when my kids were little. I do put up a few things and I love fall candles, they are my favorite scents. My geography of Florida is a little off, but I hope you are staying safe and dry and aren't too close to the action. I saw on t.v. the graphics of the hurricane that looked like a big dinosaur head ready to chomp!

  31. I've been rather out of touch with blogland and popped over right now to check on you and see if you had posted anything about the hurricane. Hoping you and yours are all safe, that you have power and water and shelter.

  32. I hope that you are safe Meredith that Hurricane sounds pretty scary! Your leaves are lovely, the leaves are just starting to turn colour here now. What a lovely gift to find on your porch, I'm sure you will finish that sweater in no time. Have a peaceful Sunday. :) xx

  33. Thank goodness you were not affected by the hurricane too badly. I feel for those who have lost everything in the storms.

I love your glittery leaf - what is it made of? Is it crochet? I can't discern individual stitches. It looks a bit like pipe cleaners with fuzzy green and glitter instead of the regular fuzzies.

Your Harvest sweater is coming along nicely, albeit slowly. The colour is amazing and it looks very neatly done. Even if you need to redo sections, it will be worth it in the end. Don't get discouraged.

All in all, this is a very attractive post with pretty soaps and flowers. Just what we all need to calm down after all the worries with the election.

You know, I couldn't help myself, I was compelled to add my two cents' worth to your previous post about elections etc. so I hope you don't mind that I added another comment to that post because it doesn't really belong in this one!

    Have a lovely weekend xx
