I was struggling to think of anything to say in a post this week. Seems like I am always saying the same thing. I work too much, I don't have time for anything and well nothing is new. But then I took a look around and realized I do have some new things to chat about. Last week I bought this brand new hibiscus tree. The flowers are not as dramatic as my other hibiscus but I do think they are pretty with their ruffly petals. I planted this outside in a pot that I am keeping off the ground with bricks to make it taller so the deer don't eat it. Deer LOVE hibiscus plants! So far, so good.
Last weekend I took out my dead annuals and planted more plants. My oldest helped me to mulch, cut down dead limbs and trim a huge white bird of paradise tree in front of my house. Today he trimmed two small palm trees and pulled out dead azalea bushes. He will plant new ones tomorrow. He really is such a big help.
We are right in the middle of gardenia season here at my house. I have a row of bushes and one huge bush in my backyard. My outside area smells so wonderful I wish I could bottle it up and send it to you.
The boys have been up to their usual antics. They chewed up the corner of my family room carpet this week. So glad I had decided not to get a new one for a while. My oldest and I had to move it around so the chewed up edge is under the sofa. They are still puppies after all!
I started a new project, well an old one I have restarted. This is the Longline Cardigan made with beautiful Malabrigo Twist. I won this yarn from Eat Sleep Knit several years ago when I had a scratch off card for $100 dollars! Whoop, whoop! I spent it all on this yarn but have not had a great pattern to use with it. I did try this cardigan a year or so ago but when I decreased as stated it screwed up the pattern. This time I am simply not decreasing until I get to the underarms so I can keep the pattern in line.
Every time I go on an elevator I have to take a picture of it for Little Buddy. Of course the people in the elevator ask me what I am doing. I went to my neurologist on Thursday to get my round of shots for my headaches and rode up to the fourth floor on this baby. This is a Thyssenkrupp elevator and if you would like to know all about them or any other elevator just give Little Buddy a call. By the way Elisha Otis is the inventor of the device that prevents an elevator from falling. We can all be thankful for him when we are inside one.
.
And here is my darling boy actually looking at elevator videos on his iPad this week. He looks so much older to me these days. Gone is the toddler face and even the little boy face. He is going to be 8 very soon and won't let me keep him at 7 even if I really want him to stay just like he is. Still he is very innocent, likes very simple shows to watch, no fighting or meanness. He still loves to be teased in the simplest of ways, like me pretending he is the pig we are reading about, or that I can't find him under his covers in the morning. He is just darling and loved so much.
Okay, my friends I miss you all. I hope to visit you soon.
What a pity you don't live here! One of our best friends spent his whole working life installing elevators all over the world. He and Little Buddy would have so much to talk about.Isn't he growing up fast? What wonderful plants you have in your garden, things we could not grow here.
ReplyDeleteLet Little Buddy know that all the way up here in Canada, we have the same brand of elevators!
ReplyDeleteYour tree is beautiful. I love the color!!
Hope you have a great week.
X Chy
Oh, I can only imagine the scent of those gardenias! We've finally gotten to a bit of Spring here in NEO, and the tulip trees and forsythia are extra beautiful this year. I am in heaven with all the blossoming trees.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you're able to take a moment and see the beauty and happiness around you, despite the things that are getting you down. It's important that we find that ray of light between the clouds.
Whenever you write it is interesting to me. I think I repeat myself on my blog and I fret over it at times. But I repeat myself because sometimes I am doing the same things over and over and over again. Buddy is getting bigger to me too.
ReplyDeleteI love your new Hibiscus, I wish we could grow them outside here in Oregon. But your gardenias are what make me swoon.. I love their fragrance so much. I wore a corsage of them to my HS prom with Dayle. :-) Your little guy is growing up so handsome and strong. He's adorable. I look forward to seeing your new knitted wrap when it's done. Enjoy your lovely weather before the really hot weather hits. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteLB does look older. I know he's small for his age, but that photo of him on the couch has him looking like a "big boy." It's hard to believe that he is almost 8!
ReplyDeleteI know that broken record feeling. I seem to always be complaining about working too much or being tired. It seems to be the way for those of us who work with special needs children. The system we work in isn't great, but it's hard to hold back from our "clients".
I wish I could smell your flowers. Nothing with a scent is blooming here. But at least the world is greening up for us.
I hope you have a work week that isn't too exhausting!
I can smell that gardenia from here. My grandmother had a huge one on her porch that she watered with an old fashioned milk bottle. What a beautiful bloom.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful flowers, I wish I could smell them. Little Buddy is growing into Big Buddy, bless him. It's great he's fascinated with learning more about things and how they work. Love the yarn colour. Those boys of yours, adorable but full of mischief. Hoping you have a good week. Take care, Cx
ReplyDeleteI know that the emergency button in an elevator is the lowest one--probably in case someone falls and can barely reach it. But it is also right at toddler height. My youngest was obsessed with buttons and pushing buttons and I had to hold him back from that button every time. Isn't it funny what our little ones get crazy about? It certainly shows us a whole new way to look at the world!
ReplyDeleteLove the gardenia!
ReplyDeleteOh, that's right, he's the elevator expert. He looks brilliant. Those dogs are just so funny. They always look seem to be up to something. You hibiscus is beautiful. I love the color. Great post; thanks for writing to us.
ReplyDeleteI love the colour of your new hibiscus, so pretty. I don't know the first thing about elevators (or lifts as we call them over here) but I'll know who to come to if I have any questions.
ReplyDeleteit's when their little faces start to look grown up that makes us want time to stand still! just for a little bit longer. but he is eager for life and to embrace it full force as a grown boy! "oh just a little bit longer our Buddy!"
ReplyDeleteand the puppies! LOLOL! what's to say. I have gnawed-on furniture that is among some of my favorite things. precious times for puppies and their buddy both!
XOXO … your photos of the flowers are breath taking!
Deer and hibiscus! Who would have thought?
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky to have strong young men around you to help you with the heavy garden chores.
Those white gardenias look exquisite.
Good luck with your cardigan. I hope it works out better this time. Now that Autumn weather is coming, I really must get on with making that cardigan for myself that I have been meaning to do for ages. Some of my cardies are getting a little old and shabby these days.
HAHAHA! Elevator pictures. I can just imagine the looks you get. What a classic! OMG - you know what is going to happen now, don't you? We are all going to start sending our photos of exotic elevators from all around the world for LB! teehee
What sweethearts. I love visiting you on your blog.
Wishing you a happy week and no more migraines. xxx
My first thought when I saw Little Buddy is how all of a sudden he looks like an older boy! I am glad I know who to call when I have an elevator question :-)
ReplyDeleteLive is not always exciting but it is always worth remembering and writing about I think. I hope you have an uneventful and enjoyable week xx
Can you believe I've never seen nor smelled a gardenia? At least, not that I know of. It's been many years (30!) since I've been to Florida. I've seen hibiscus here at garden centers and a former friend had one in her yard, but I wonder how these tropical flowers do here (northern IL) in the long run.
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome that LB is fascinated with elevators - he's so smart! And yes, I agree that he is looking very grown up all of a sudden. Too bad we can't keep them little!
You're right, that dear little man is growing up. I have chewed things here that I am not replacing because I know what will happen. And things in the garden are never safe - danger all around, although no deer! The gardenia looks exquisite, one of my favourite flowers. Lovely to hear from you, look after yourself. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteI wish it was smell-a-computer too. Your flowers look amazing Meredith! I love your posts. You share your life with us and that's what this is all about.
ReplyDeleteThe elevator photo is hilarious. WIth us it was waterfalls and trains. Alex loved both of them. When we were at the coast last week everytime we saw a waterfall, we talked about Alex. What a blessing your boy is to you. And your oldest too! Helping with all of that work.
Your sweet furry boys are still dealing with their puppyness aren't they? It's a good thing they're so darn cute! :-)
WIshing you a wonderful day. Lots and lots of love my friend.
Blessings,
Betsy
You realize you don't have to write a thing and just show us your photos and it would be a gift all in itself. That lil boy is growing . We can't deny it. But he is offering the world something amazing as he grows up. Elevators....what a cool preoccupation. Firemen must have the keys to the elevators . Does lil b know that? Does he know how they help if the elevator gets stuck?
ReplyDeleteWow! Little Buddy is growing up! And those gardenias! I bet your yard smells SO good! I can practically smell them from here. :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe Little Buddy knows the Thyssen-Krupp Testturm in Rottweil, Germany, already? It's worth a visit. :-) Hugs, Regula
ReplyDeleteLove the name of your post, made me laugh! Your flowers are beautiful! We here in Colorado are starting our gardening season, or so I thought. Expecting 6-8 inches of snow today.....I refuse to complain and just call it more poor mans fertilizer. Little Man does look so grown up, it all happens way to fast. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteAhhh your gorgeous flowers! So wonderful your eldest was able to help you with some gardening, and I think it is great that your youngest is fixated on elevators at the moment. It will be interesting to see where he will go with what he is learning. I have a pink Dianthus plant in bloom on the patio and its scent is heavenly and reminds me how much I love the scent of Gardenias...I am happy for you that you have blooming Gardenia bushes to enjoy! I look forward to seeing your purple sweater take shape.
ReplyDeleteYou and yours are in my thoughts and prayers with love. xx
Loved all those flower photos! I've tried many times with no luck to grow gardenias, so especially enjoyed those pictures. LB is indeed growing up; it seems just yesterday that you brought him home. That is very pretty yarn you are using on the sweater! Hope your week is going well.
ReplyDeleteCan smell the Gardenia from here! It truly is beautiful. 8 is such a big number when you're little! Finally found out what a 'lanai' is on The Property Brothers show! It's a great name, I wonder where it originated from?
ReplyDeleteBuddy does look older, is it less baby fat? Boys go through that stage. You've had a busy week. Your flowers look beautiful. My daffodils are done, but noting else going on at the moment. I can smell your Gardenia's though..my Dad had 2 in the house for YEARS and then when it got nice he would take them outside. They smell divine.
ReplyDeleteLucky you having garden helpers. I'm the only one here who does anything in the garden. The others are happy to sit in it. Grrr!
