My love for quiet Friday mornings continues. Last week my husband informed me with glee that he did not have to go into work until late Friday morning, just in time for me to pick up Little Buddy from school. He could not quite understand my slight resistance at being happy for him. My Friday mornings are my treasured time. They are my quiet time that prepares me for a weekend full of men, little boys and teenagers who are almost men. It is my time to regroup from a busy work week full of driving, entertaining children, and taking Little One where he needs to be. There is lots and lots of testosterone around me, even my beautiful boy Max is male. As I have mentioned before that as I age, I need time alone to recharge and regroup, we all do. I missed out on my precious time last week I was not going to miss out on it today.
I drove to the new Whole Foods Market that has just opened up near me. Before this store opened we had to drive to Tampa to go to the store. We live in a busy area but we are so behind the times. No Whole Foods up until now, no Trader Joe's, we aren't hip and cool like so many other areas of the country. I walked around the store savoring the beauty of everything there. I bought a few things, nothing too crazy as they do not call the store, "Whole Paycheck" for nothing. I also purchased a few bars of soap to give away with the dishcloths, it was just fun to walk around at my own pace.
When I got home I went out side in the steamy morning and had another walk. We have had lots and lots of rain lately, my flowers are responding to the moisture and the slightly less intense heat. It is supposed to be only in the mid 80's tomorrow, I am looking forward to the change.
My rose tree is as happy as can be with the extra rain and cooler temps. I have tiny little roses everywhere.
The deer have been at it again trying to scratch off their antlers on my poor little pine tree. They had knocked down all my protective devices, I think I need to get a fence around this tree, I am not sure it can be saved. The other little pine tree I had died a miserable, slow death.
The swamp/woods behind my house is full of water. We have so many mosquitoes out in the evening it is crazy. Little Buddy had 7 bites on him the other day. I am not sure if he got them at school or if a mosquito bit him while he was sleeping here at the house. All I know is if I was a mosquito I would bite him because he looks pretty yummy.
Five more dishcloths have been added to my pile. I now have 13 crocheted flower dishcloths and 15 knitted ones. I have more to go but am not stressed about it. I am way ahead of the game right now as far as preparation for Christmas. I might even take a break and start something new this weekend.
This weekend I intend to get the Halloween decorations out, and just relax. I swear I am getting so boring (oops, I am not supposed to say that again am I?) I like to stay close to home and not even get in my car if that is possible. Crochet when I can, read a bit before bed, catch up on blogs, take Little Buddy out for a ride on his bike or for a swing on his swing set, watch a bit of football and recharge before another busy week.
Thank you so much for your positive comments about Little Buddy's accomplishments. I am so glad you are there for me to share all of this with. He needs all the prayers and positive thoughts he can get to get him to the place where he is functioning all on his own. Isn't it fun to see him grow and flourish?
Hope you have a beautiful weekend whatever your plans.
You get great depth of field on those rose shots, they are stunning. We are still blessed with good weather here. Jo x
ReplyDeleteI am so much like you! I am a homebody. I like to stay home and feather my nest. Crochet, sew, read, blog...cook...all of that fun stuff! And I, like you, NEED to have some me time that is quiet for recharging. My husband sheepishly informed me he was asked to go to the Chargers game on Sunday, which will be an all day thing. I smiled and said...oh..have fun!! And inside I was doing flips. A whole day...for.....just....me!!!!

I totally understand. I had two boys, no girls. For years, testosterone practically dripped down the walls! Enjoy your relax time!!
ReplyDeleteThe Roses are soo gorgeous, as are the flower dishcloth.

Sounds like a nice way to enjoy some quiet time. I like to browse through Home Goods when I get time; just me, myself and I. :-) Enjoy a wonderful weekend. Heather
ReplyDeleteThe bokeh effect on your images is perfect Meredith.
ReplyDeleteSavor that alone time. It is important....
very important. You need to recharge YOU
I go through home body cycles and I think they are good for us.
Indulge
Wish you a quiet and relaxed weekend!
ReplyDeleteHugs from Mirjam.
When I get home I like to stay there and that will only get worse as the nights draw in.
ReplyDeleteThe roses with dew on are great.
Take care and a have a great weekend.
Christy
PS Thank you for your comments on and my friend D. Yes she is in our prayers.
Amen to "me time." Fortunately my husband understands that...and has come to learn that it is good for him to have "me time" as well! I've been away from a computer - traveling a bit, but just read your post qabout Little Buddy and his bike. Meredith - that is amazing/awesome/such fun. What a super, super boy Little Buddy is. Heading out of town again on Sunday for a week...will have to catch up on blogs when I get back (again).
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you made time for yourself this morning. We have a Whole Foods, but it's downtown and another one way on the other side of Portland. Our town - Gresham - a suburb of Portland does not have one cool store. So, I suffice with plain old grocery stores. Not as fun! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteWe all need some quiet time to restore ourselves! Glad you got out and about a little bit. I'm really into being home right now. You know I love those washcloths!! Wishing you a good weekend.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Linda
I couldn't wait to retire so I could stay home all the time. My Hubs thought I was crazy but I so enjoy the quietness of the day and being able to do at my own pace. You need that time and I'm glad you got it this week. Rest, relax and renew this weekend. Hugs, Sharon
ReplyDeleteI didn't get round to commenting on little Buddy's bikes ride but what a superstar. He really is progressing so well and I think he has his eye on trying to be as big and strong as his brothers. He is such a lucky little boy to have you as his family.
ReplyDeleteYour quiet gentle walk sounds wonderful and that rose looks butter soft and gorgeous. It is peeing it down here, cold dank and wet enough that neither mozzies or people want to be outdoors. Its supposed to have three hours of dun tomorrow, if the clouds clear...!
Enjoy your "me" time while you can. The roses are looking delightful and that ever growing pile of washcloths is a great achievement. You are certainly doing well with the Christmas preparations.
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed wonderful to see Buddy doing so well! Your cloths are coming along well too aren't they. Hope you have a great weekend. xx
ReplyDeleteI like being at home too, and also I like a little alone time and peace. It's all boys here too, unless you count the guinea pig. They do have a huge amount of energy and action about them don't they, it's quite exhausting. Those roses are amazing, you have quite the green fingers. I hope you and your boys and men enjoy the weekend. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteWhole Foods is a fun place to go "wander" by yourself, but I rarely go because of $$$. They have some wonderful breads and cheeses and crackers I splurge on occasionally. I love their Serendipity Bread and their Orange Bread. Check them out next time you go. You can buy half-loaves even so you can try both. Scrum-diddly-umptious! Your flower pictures turned out beautiful. Love them.
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to have some time to yourself. I completely understand. I grandly announced on the phone to my husband today, that Sunday I was going to be commandeering for my own, maybe they can join me later, ha!
ReplyDeleteI'm cheating and commenting on the previous post, and this one at the same time...but...
ReplyDeleteOh wow, he is a determined little guy, and those accomplishments are amazing!
Go kiddo go!!!! I love that trike, and you can see that he is having the time of his life with it. Red bikes rock!
Love your dishcloths...those are adorable. And they will make great Christmas pressies.
I would adore a Whole Paycheck here....but I am not sure if they are in Canada.
Jen
Beautiful roses! Your dishcloths are so bright and cheerful! We all need a little down time a little quiet time to ourselves.
ReplyDeleteI am SO ready for cooler weather. My car was parked at the shopping center this afternoon. When I got in, it said 100 degrees! It shouldn't be that hot this late in the year.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a quiet and restful weekend with plenty of time for trike rides and stitching.
Beautiful white roses!
ReplyDeleteWonderful dishcloths!!
Have a good weekend,enjoy.:*
I love that you got your walk around friend! Yes it is so important to take the time to recharge and be with yourself so that you can just be!!! Your shots of your blooms are absolute perfection! And we have insane mosquitoes around here....one or two must have gotten into the house because my sweet girl woke up with several bites in the morning! Cant wait for them to go away which should be soon as we are only in the 40's here in Chicago tomorrow. And Little Buddy is so blessed to have such a wonderful mama!!! Wishing you all good things this weekend...from one homebody to another! Nicole xo
ReplyDeleteLovely post. I hope you can find some quiet time even though you'll be around all that testosterone. You are so organized and on top of things to already be ready for Christmas. I haven't done a thing!
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty roses. I hope you manage some relaxation and time to recharge over the weekend. x
ReplyDeleteOh I so understand Meredith. As much as I'm loving having Mandy & Piper here, I haven't had one hour by myself since the end of July, except when I lunched with the girls in Portland! I love my time alone to recharge and justk it or read. Your flowers are gorgeous, must of mine have succumbed to the frost we've had recently. Have a lovely weekend my friend,
ReplyDeleteBetsy
The roses are very beautiful. Most of the time I prefer to stay indoors, and if I have to move out it should be for a very important reason that is unavoidable and the weather should be pleasant.
ReplyDeleteI'm a homebody too. Almost anti-social, if I'm being honest. I've always been this way and used to fight it because I thought it wasn't right. But now that I'm getting older, I embrace it because this is who I am. I'm a nice person, I swear, I just don't like to go out much and I can't really be bothered with a busy social calendar. I'm much happier since I admitted this to myself. :)
ReplyDeleteYour pile of gift dishcloths is very impressive, what a lot of work, but fun too.
ReplyDeleteSoap to go with...what a great idea, have you thought about making some yourself from scratch, it is waaaaay easier than you think, I started about 18 months ago and have made 6 batches so far and even taught a workshop on the process.
I use the method from a blog called "Down to Earth" it only uses 4 ingredients, water, coconut oil, olive oil and lye and is pure and gentle on skin as well as good for sensitive skin conditions.
Mozies don't like Lavander oil, so put a little on Buddy when he is outside playing, or on bites to stop the itch.
Hope you have a lovely weekend.
I am so with you on alone time. There is something immensely soothing about the being the only person in the house. Keith is a homebody, so he's usually here, but he gives me lots of space.
ReplyDeleteWhole Paycheck is the nearest store to my house, so I have to exert a lot of control to stay away.
Your photos are amazing of the roses. Just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI am in a house of boys too...so I get what you are saying. :-)
xx oo
Girlfriend hugs to you.
A lot of pretty flowers! We don't have any organic grocery stores in the area of Nashville where I live. The closest one is in Green Hills, where Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban live. (The BEYOND rich area of town, in other words!) We did get a Publix in our working-class area, though, which shocked me. Compared to the only other store we had--a very run-down Kroger--Publix is like a slice of heaven on Earth! It's so pretty, with gourmet cupcakes and ground beef that doesn't give you food poisoning. So I splurge and shop there instead of Kroger, even though it's more expensive.
ReplyDeleteThe roses are gorgeous! Have a nice week!
ReplyDeleteYou have got some Gorgeous roses out there... Your dishcloths are amazing, I am loving the colors...I would like to thank you for sharing with us the pleasure of watching LB grow, thank you so very much Meredith...
ReplyDeleteHow did I miss this post? That rose is exquisite Meredith what lovely photo's. I'm in total agreement I love to stay at home too, even better if I know I'm not going to be disturbed. Hope you had a great weekend. :) xx
ReplyDelete'me-time' is so special :) I hope you figure out how to save the pine tree, the garden looks lovely :) and the dishcloths are wonderful!! The pictures of Little Buddy on his bike are so amazing, he looks so happy and has achieved so much xo
ReplyDeleteYour flowers look so luscious with those rain-drops on them!
ReplyDeleteQuiet time ... yes. (You already know how I agree with you on that one.) Mr. M was out of town last week for three days, and I'm ashamed to say that I could really have used just one more day by myself before he came back. Ah well.
You have a Whole Foods - woo hoo! We have to drive 35 miles to get to Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. My village is very un-hip. :)
So glad you managed to salvage some "me" time, you deserve it!
ReplyDeleteI love the dishcloths, they will be very popular presents!
Helenxx
Your dish cloths look so pretty. I know they will be well loved. :) I adore your roses. They are very pretty. :) ((hugs))
ReplyDeleteWell, if you are boring , then so am I! More and more I don't want to go out , I love being at home right now, I feel I have a great balance between noisy time with the children, peaceful time during the school day, and relaxing with TV , or a movie , on the sofa with my hubby, a cappuccino and my crochet! Boring but I love it. :) Loving those dishcloths , really pretty :) Abd you are right, Little Buddy is yummy :)
ReplyDeleteJillxo
Meredith- I do so understand about your special alone time-- it's a priceless gift we give ourselves. I had to laugh at your "whole paycheck" reference to the grocery store. I love that store and Trader Joes too-- but your analogy is so true!!
ReplyDeleteXoxo
Vicki
I'll echo previous commenters: the rose photos are very lovely.
ReplyDeleteMy husband has started working from home many days. Even when he stays in his office, it still changes my routine and my day if ever so slightly. I think he plans to do this full-time pretty soon, so I'd better get used to it.
