Finally a finish...............

It is amazing what you can get done when you actually make yourself work on something.  I finally finished my second Jamie by Vicki Chan.  Although it is better than the first one I made I am still not in love with it.  Here have a peek.

This Jamie is a lot bigger than my first one.  It is actually looks almost the same size as the one featured in the pattern but I still think it is small.

Made with Berroco Boboli Lace from my stash of course, in the color 4379.

Before blocking it was a jumbled mess.  I swear the whole vest was above my waist.  I am not a fan of  soaking things to block them but this was in dire need of a good, long bath.

I soaked it for a long, long time and then even had to steam block it after it was dry.

I had to cut the pattern short by several rows because I ran out of yarn.  This was actually all the yarn I had left at the end of the project.  This project used up 700 yards of stash yarn, yarn I can now cross of my list.  I used a size F hook which is far bigger than the size 2.5 mm hook suggested in the pattern.  Even with a hook this size I still had to block this project like crazy.

It fits but I kind of feel restricted with the arm openings cut so low.  Oh well live and learn.  I had to make it again hoping I could master the pattern, and I did.  Loving it was not part of the equation, learning and trying to figure out what I did wrong the first round was.

On a different note I am back from college orientation with my son.  I had forgotten how boring and unbelievably long that whole process is.  I also left my phone in the Fort Lauderdale Airport when returning home.  It is now in south Florida at a residence and I am very likely never to see it again.  Funny how ridiculously attached you get to your phone, it is like your whole life is on it.  And in true Meredith fashion I had not backed it up for a few months so I lost all sorts of Little Buddy 's photos and videos.  They are up in my iCloud, just not on my phone.  A new one arrived today so I am back up and running. So the lesson here is back up your phone often my friends.

Side note number two.......  When all the horrible mess was going on with Little Buddy's photo I received a message from Berroco on Ravelry stating that they wanted to feature my Kiribati sweater on their Ravelry site.  They asked me if they could use my photo and I promptly said yes.  Here is the link to Ravelry if you want to peek at it.  Don't think I am all that special, apparently not many people made this sweater and I was one of the few who actually made it in the suggested Berroco yarn.  Still it is fun to see.  Catch up with you all soon.

  2. Meredith - That is gorgeous! You did a wonderful job. Of course, they would want to use it in their publicity. Great job.!

Sorry about your phone. They are so hard to keep up with.

Maybe some good soul will find and return it. Maybe, I said....

  3. I think your new Jamie is beautiful! I love the yarn that you used.

Sorry to hear about your phone.

Couldn't you contact the police in the area to go get your phone. If you can pinpoint where it is, then they are keeping it illegally.

  5. Congratulations on having your Kiribati sweater featured on Berocco's Ravelry page. You have presented it so nicely and styled it very attractively with a clear photo and, most of all, done a great job of the garment. Why wouldn't they want to feature it! Well done!

  6. Sorry to hear about your phone. You are so right - our whole lives seem to be on them. The weird thing is smart phone haven't even been around that long. How did we all become so attached, so quickly? I really like your vest! And well done on being asked to have a project featured on a Ravelry page!

  7. Congrats on the honor of having your work shown! Your sweater is beautiful! I can't imagine losing my phone.. it's never more than a few feet away from me.. :-) Are you an Apple phone girl or Android? I'm Apple all the way. I can't wait until my contract is up so I can get a new 6. Dayle says they might have a new one out by the time I can get a new one in October. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  8. I'm so sorry about your phone. There are some honest people in the world....my hubby left his nook in an airport and was sure it was gone for good. A week later the airport called and someone had turned it in. How great that they used your Kiribati sweater on ravelry!

  9. I think I must be the only person left who doesn't have a mobile phone everybody laughs but I always say if people want me badly enough they will phone me back when I am available. To be fair my husband has one and I am with him most of the time. I am just not a fan of technology I only mastered using a computer when I started blogging. Congratulations on your Ravelry success and the beautiful Jamie knit, I love the yarn.

  10. I love the new sweater and if it accomplished the purpose you set for it than all is well, right? And I'm going to go right to Ravelry to see your sweater in all of it's glory as soon as I finish this comment. Thirdly, my phone died while at Mandy's and I had to get a new one in Annapolis. Luckily, most of my stuff came over on "the cloud". All except past texts. Uh-oh. I should have written some important info that was in the texts. Never thought of that one. I hope you see your old phone again someday so you can retrieve everything.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  13. How did we all survive before smart phones were invented? I sure rely on mine! I think I'd freak out if I lost mine. Your Jamie is lovely and I love the colour of the Boboli lace!! It looks so pretty. I can see the structure of the garment is a bit different. Congrats on being featured on a Ravelry page, it looks great!!

  14. How annoying about your phone, things like that are a real setback aren't they. Well done on the Ravelry feature, I'm not surprised, you've made a beautiful job of it as ever. I hope you and yours have a good weekend Meredith. CJ xx

  15. Well I think you should be proud of your make as it's really beautiful! Aargh, how annoying about losing your phone, but yay for being featured on Ravelry 😊 Wishing you a happy, blessed weekend and hugs to Little Buddy too. I've been out of the loop so just catching up a bit now and am so sad for all the heartache and horrid-ness you have experience with the photos. Sending you love & hugs & happy thoughts across the pond. Xxx

  16. Hello Mere!

I love your Jamie, especially that wonderful yarn, it looks so great!!! Sometimes you have to adapt a pattern maybe. I can only imagine how hard it was to block it, with such fine yarn.

Shame about the phone... and congrats on being featured!!! What a great compliment! :)

    Have a lovely weekend!!

  17. Aplause for your new vest! It looks so pretty, and difficult to make...
I am making a very simple one right now, hope it works ;-).
Hope you and the new phone will be friends soon!
    Lots of love from Mirjam.

  18. Congrats on being features, I do love the yarn you used such a shame the pattern didn't turn out as you hoped. Hope you get used to the phone soon, I know that feeling well

  19. Oh the colours of your cardi, so so beautiful. I could never crochet a garment. Congratulations on being featured Meredith! I am guilty of not backing my phone up. I had to plug it into the computer the other day because this seems to only way to remove music from an iphone (I ran out of storage space). Last time I backed it up was in summer 2014...... Have a wonderful weekend. xx

  20. Very cool about Ravelery and love your piece too. I admire you for doing the Jamie pattern again-once blocked is it good to go-or do you have to go through that again every time you wash it?
bummer about your phone-when we retired in'03 we gave up our cell phones as we refused to be tied to them any longer-and that was before all the smart phones came on the scene-don't regret it-but we live a different lifestyle than most.
    have a good weekend

  21. Oh, I do like your vest Meredith, the colour is very pretty. I can't believe how much it needed blocking, I would have hated doing that, worrying that I would completely pull it out of shape. A big chunk of stash used too!

  22. Kudos on the Ravelry picture! And your Jamie is pretty too, very summery. I can't believe the difference before and after blocking. Love the yarn you used.

  23. Congratulations on the kudos from Berocco! I love the yarn you chose to use and wow that was cutting it close! :D I am so impressed that you have both beautiful crochet skills as well as knitting, er umm, and weaving skills! :D

Sorry you lost your phone... I just got a fancy-ish phone and your experience made me wonder if there isn't a way to lock your phone so when not in use no one else can access it? I will have to check into that on my phone, which is a Samsung Galaxy.

Hope your weekend is a fun filled perfect weather kind of weekend!
    Hugs always my dearest friend,
    Beth

  24. Back up a phone? I have never thought about such a thing! One more thing to put on my list.
The sweater is very pretty. It is funny how we make things for a wide range of reasons, including just to master a pattern or skill. These challenges must be good for our aging brains.

  25. I knew you WHEN! How wonderful about KIRABATI.
Al lost her phone and a dear man called me, the mOM, to return it to her.
    College orientations were a snooze.
I LOVE both of your recent crochet tops. You are very talented.
I ve been looking at my simplistic knits....and I admire you all who can really focus and create a garment

  27. Wow, I love this Jamie's colour! Too bad it still doesn't satisfy you, hope next time will be better, should you give it another try! :) Sorry about your phone too, that's just frustrating...
Wish you a relaxing weekend! xx

  28. I really love your new Jamie. Too bad it doesn't quite fit you under the arms because it very lovely and the colour just right. Congrats on having your work featured on Ravelry. I think that is awesome :-) By the way, I'm always living in fear of losing my phone because like you say all your life is in it. What did you do to protect yourself (information, photos, etc.) after losing it?

  30. Oh, too bad about your phone!! How annoying!

The sweater is lovely, but I do know what you mean about things not turning out quite how you want them. BOY, do I know that one......... Some projects are just learning experiences.

  31. You're such a sweetheart. So humble it hurts me. It's awesome Berroco asked to feature your sweater :) You do good work, my friend. I'm sorry the latest jamie didn't turn out the way you wanted it to, but if it makes you feel any better, to me it looks beautiful. It really was a great combination with that yarn!

I hope to experience the boredom of college orientation. keep your fingers crossed for my one and only's future ;)

Sorry about your phone, but perhaps your story is going to convince me to pay for the extra icloud storage so I can finally back up my phone again and possible upgrade the OS.

  33. That's beautiful, isn't it amazing what blocking can do.

  34. Wow I think it's beautiful, such a shame it's not so comfy, shame beauty and comfort are often not reconcilable ;) Sorry about the phone, I'd be lost without mine, but you've inspired me to back it all up! Glad the orientation went well, these things are often tedious unfortunately xo

  35. Beautiful!! I do think you are amazing.

I hope all works out with your phone.
And thank you for the reminder to back up!!

  37. Oh no! Too bad about the phone. Goodness, I don't use mine as much as some people, but I sure wouldn't want to lose it as all telephone numbers are in there. The only number I know by heart is my husband's. :) Losing pictures doesn't bother me. I have way too many anyways and am always needing to delete to have space for more. Congrats on having your vest showcased on Ravelry. It looks great as does your latest finish. Best wishes, Tammy

  38. Congratulations on being featured!! You more than well deserve it!! Love this color of the vest!!

  39. Because my forte is not critical thinking, I am always shocked and amazed with what you find wrong with your creations, Meredith...and as I have told you before, even when you tell me what's wrong, I am humbled to admit I usually still can't see it :) Ah well.... However, when you tell me that something isn't comfortable I can't argue with you on that point! I love the yarn color of this Jamie vest and how it shows off Vicki Chan's pattern so beautifully.

So sorry about your phone fuss....[Confession: I don't know how to back up the data on my phone or computer.]

Cheers for you on having your beautiful work on the Kiribati sweater honored by Berroco on their Ravelry site!!! xx
