Five reality checks on a Friday..................

Happy Friday!

I am ready to do a happy dance that the weekend is finally here.  I am joining in with Amy at Love Made My Home for Five on Friday.

I am all about feeling positive and all but today I am having a reality check.

This is what my desk looks like right now and it is about to get messier.  I had to send Little Buddy to therapy with his Dad today so I could write up a long, tedious, re-evaluation.  Of course I had to do a blog post first, I do have my priorities after all!

My gorgeous, green carpet of cucumber and cantaloupe leaves is a gross mess.  I am still finding a spare cut worm here and there.  I found one yesterday evening walking right across my pavers just as brazen as can be!  All the little cucumbers that were just starting to develop are yellow, but I refuse to take the plant out and start again.  I am very stubborn that way, just ask my sister!

After a trip to the Dentist this morning for Little Buddy, (he actually opened his mouth and they cleaned a tooth or two), we did some cleaning and he wanted to help.  Here he is cleaning the table.

He cleaned everything right off of it and onto the floor.

This mess is on my kitchen table and has been here for two weeks.  I am so happy my son has written his thank you notes for graduation presents very promptly, but he has left the mess right here.  We will be addressing this area this weekend.  I want my table back.

This crochet project has not been touched in weeks.  The Jamie _Short Sleeve Vest by Vicki Chan remains in this project basket hoping beyond hope I will pick it up and get busy with it.

The Nevis Cardigan by Stephanie Japel has not fared much better.  There have been a few rows added during a period or two of hockey this past week.   I need to get busy on this soon before I forget how to knit.

There is laundry to be done, an outdoor kitchen to be wiped down, paperwork to complete, a floor to wash, and a trip to plan for my sons college orientation this next Monday and Tuesday.  So much to do and so little time.  It will all get done eventually and there will still be time to take notice of my beautiful roses.

And there will also be time to play with this little guy in his playhouse that was moved inside the screened in pool area last weekend.  It is more accessible for him and a lot less muddy and dirty.  He is only allowed to walk to it if he is using his canes.  I know I am a meanie!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend with a little less reality than I have.

  1. I'm glad that you could take five minutes to do a blog post! I love Buddy's method of cleaning, just push it onto the floor!!! I hope that his brother doesn't do that with his things on the table!!! You would not be impressed with that would you. I hope that your work doesn't take as long as you fear that it might and that you can get it all done before the weekend so that you can have relaxing time. Sorry about the cucumbers and melons - those naughty little critters!!! Thank you so much for joining in. I hope that you have a great weekend - and can have some time to work on your crafty projects! xx

  2. My dining room table is covered with 'stuff'!! It is my dumping ground when I come into the apt. Gotta clean that up! I did get a few flowers planted today and almost too late, I hope they perk up with water and new soil. I need to take some photos and do a post, gosh never enough time and I don't have a job outside the home. Hugs to you and the family.

  4. Life is definitely not perfect for all of us, methinks. But we don our rose-colored glasses and see the happy parts. :-) That's great you moved his playhouse where he can enjoy it more! Enjoy your weekend! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  5. Well done Little Man, a dentist visit and table cleaning as well, good job. My littlest boy would have loved a house like that, it's brilliant, perfect for exploring. I'm glad you made it Friday, I know it was a tough week. I hope you have a good weekend with at least a little bit of relaxing. CJ xx

  6. I read somewhere that crochet waistcoats are the next must-have fashion item. Is that enough incentive to get it finished? I wish my crochet skills were good enough to make one. Must try harder!

  7. I think you'll get all of the work done in a jiffy with the wonderful help of your little guy. I have learned to almost enjoy a mess now and then. Since the kids all moved out and away, the house stays much too neat and tidy. A few messes mean a happy home with lots going on. Sorry about your plants. They were looking so beautiful. I'm afraid to go home and see how my plants are doing. Something was obviously munching on my green beans before I left home. Enjoy your weekend.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  8. I love Little Buddy's form of cleaning, pushing it on the floor. It looked as if he was doing a good job with the cloth, bless him. Hope the orientation goes well. The cleaning will still be there tomorrow, take a little time for yourself.

  9. Well I agree with LB, you need to clear the table top before you can clean it and the best place to put the stuff is on the floor!! Your boys are keeping you busy Meredith, hope you find a little time to do your knitting.

  10. A little boy that will wipe and dust? How lucky are YOU!!!!! Could you send him over here? I have some dusting that could really use a little boy's rag!

  11. haha, Little Buddy's style of cleaning is not far from mine, except I'm centuries older than him! I'm with you, I have big plans for this weekend. Things I want to do as much as things I just want to have done ;)

I hope you and your family have a wonderful time and you reclaim that surface space!

  12. Cutworms are nothing if not brazen! :D Your poor plants, they do indeed look pretty sad but they certainly don' look dead. There may still be hope for them. Do you feed them regularly? Not the cutworms because clearly you fed them but the plants especially now after this siege might benefit greatly from a little organic fertilizer.
    Hugs,
    Beth

  19. I write posts like this, it helps you see what has to be done. It will all get there in the end. My advice is to rope someone else in! Hugs Jo

  20. I like the cleaning method too, but i bet you don't! I hope you can get back to normal soon and give yourself a rest and some crochet catch up time.

  23. Wow, I got tired just reading your post! LB's cleaning method sounds most efficient. Perhaps you could loan him to us for a while? He sure is a cute little fellow. Hope you have time to enjoy the weekend!

  24. A fun post! You made me laugh here and there and little Buddy is as adorable as always. I love his cleaning style. Easy, brezzy, lol. Your son and I have a lot in common concerning dining tables ;-) Have a wonderful time ahead though I know you will be super busy!

  25. It is good to remind ourselves sometimes of the reality of life, isn't it? Your desk and kitchen table don't look messy at all compared to my dining room table and ironing board (both doubling as desk/storage). I hope you got the re evaluation written, such important work but oh, what responsibility.
I hope you get to play lots with Little Buddy this weekend. Lots of love, Christina xx

  27. Life is full of the reality so that we can take some time to step back in awe when things align in those magical moments! Though I see only sweetness here especially with that little helper of yours! So little time is right! Goodness!! And I am so glad that you posted that gorgeous rose! Some people walk right by flowers without ever stopping! Wishing you more rose smelling this weekend my friend! Nicole xoxo

  28. Well that's the fast way to clean a table, I sure would like to do that some days. Housework is highly overrated in my book! Your roses are lovely, your little man is happy and moms always have stuff to do! I haven't picked up my knitting in a couple of weeks! This time of year there is always so much to do or not do!!! Have a good Sunday!

  29. You have a child that will open his mouth for the dentist!!!!!! Can I have
him please? My sons are 21 and 18 and they wouldn't consider doing that at the
dentist!!!!! lol Love little buddies playhouse, how cool is he!!!
    Cheers, Anita.

  30. I'm amazed that you find anytime for knitting or crochet. Raising a child and working can keep you busy!
    Little Buddy is really growing!
I hope you get some things done and have some time to relax this weekend.

  31. Too many jobs to do, not enough knitting time, more delegation needed xx

  32. It was so nice to finally take some time and do some blog visits today! It seems like I haven't been 'around' in ages. I love the way Little Buddy cleaned the table, he is so adorable.
Those cutworms are a real problem in my garden too. That's where I've been the past month, busy away in my yard. 10 acres keeps a gal running. I can't complain though, because I am sure am sleeping well at night!
    Hugs to you,
    Andrea

  33. With you on the reality front! There's just not enough time in the day to keep on top of it all! Little Buddy did a great job with the cleaning! He looks very happy with his playhouse :) Hope you have a good trip for the college orientation xo

  37. Haha , send the little man to come round and clean up the mess that's here. He is so cute. He is braver then me at the dentist, I cant even manage to open my mouth.
I laughed when you said you better get on the japel knit before you forget to knit For some reason I have decided to knit a pair for socks. I've knitted for years but crochet has taken over my life at present. I cant tell you the trouble I had simply trying to knit with my circular needles. I managed to do the cuff then for the life I me I didn't remember that the rest of the sock is done with a knit stitch . I did a round of knit and then a round of purl for a few round before I realised I needed to start again. Arghhh, I realised I'd forgotten to knit. I have knitted for almost 30 years had a break of a few years if anyone would have told me I'd forgot I'd tell them not to be silly, but I did.
Have a lovely day , thank you for all your tips about travelling with the little one .

  38. Hi honey,
forgot to ask how did you put the watermark on your photos?

  39. It is so nice to read your blog because it is so honest - your string of "unfinished business" and the collection of "stuff" that just accumulates is so typical of any busy household with children, and illustrates the demands of parenthood so well - it can be almost impossible to attend to our own pastimes as parents!
I am sure a lot of parents can relate to varying levels of household chaos and clutter. While I don't enjoy anyone feeling stress over clutter, I do like to see "real life" like this. It makes us realise we are not the only ones with these same issues. I like to read about "the good, bad and the ugly (and beautiful too)" from bloggers - it shows the human side of real life - as opposed to those blogs that purport to display "the perfect lifestyle" or "the dream relationship" all the time exclusively.

It is lovely to see your son developing so well. What a joy! :-)
    And your garden too!

    Take care xx

  40. I wish my desk looked that good, you can actually see yours :) Mine is pilled high with patterns and yarn that *eventually* will be filed away or put in the proper bins. I'd rather do what little Buddy is doing! have fun little buddy!!

  41. I know what you mean about trying to get everything done!! I was able to "clean" my desk here at home my second day that I was out of school for summer!! Great seeing the wood top again!!
Especially enjoy seeing Buddy play!!! He's such a happy child and blessed to have you as his Mom.
If you have a minute, would you mind emailing me and letting me what you are using for your waterspot?? I like how you have it in the corner AND one in the middle that is not as obvious, but still there!!
    I appreciate your help!!

  42. My craft area is so messy my friend I couldn't show it right now ... I think you are in pretty good shape considering all that you do my dear friend. It's so wonderful to see how well LB is doing. But with such a wonderful and dedicated mom like you we couldn't expect anything different. He is happy and loved and that is really the best .
