I am not a glitter girl, just saying I am not in love with playing with it. But I got a bug in my bonnet about making some glitter leaves to hang in my window and well now you just have to make some with me. It all started when I found this beautiful decorative leaf in the store covered in glitter. It was just so stunning. I bought the only one they had and wrapped it up for my friend Lynda to include in her birthday box. Of course I could not get the leaf out of my head and proceeded to spend way to much time on the Internet trying to find more. I came up with nothing, absolutely nothing. So what is a girl to do? Well go visit the nearest craft store which is Joann's in my case. I figured I could make something I would like and get a deal with my 25% off coupon and was I right!!!! The Fall Seasonal items are 50% off already so this was a great project that was also cost effective, you have to like that.
I bought several of these wooden cut out skeleton leaves, glue, a foam brush, and the cheap glitter on sale in the kids area.
Here is my mini work station on parchment paper.
I loaded my my leaves with brushed on glue.
Flipped them over on a pile of mixed color glitter. Nature does not make leaves in exactly one color so mine aren't either.
Let dry and then complete the process again on the other side.
I love the sparkle and the variation in the colors.
I will show you the big reveal when both sides are dry. Right now I am in LOVE with them. I know many of you are enjoying the beautiful colors of Fall, I am not, not down here in Florida anyway. This is my way of bringing Autumn into my home. I can't wait to see the finished project. Hope you are excited too. Remember working with glitter and glue is not for the faint of heart, or those of you who do not care for a mess. I think the mess is worth it in this case.
By the way I recently finished a fabulous audio book called Glitter and Glue by Kelly Corrigan. It was read by the author which made it even better. It is available in good ole book form if that works better for you. It is a memoir about motherhood and it made me laugh and cry, I loved it. You don't have to be a mother to love it, it was one of the best books I have listened to yet.
Happy October, my favorite month of the year!
We are expecting a cool front this weekend because of the lovely monster of a hurricane making its way up the eastern coast, stay safe all of you in the wind and intense rain.

ReplyDeleteVery creative and very nice Meredith! You've found a glittery work around to the lack of falling leaves that many of us take for granted.
I like the way they sparkle in the light...
Jen
I do love me a nice glittery decoration.. I love that you're making your own fall leaves since you don't have fall leaves there. WTG! I look forward to seeing what you do with them. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteThese are so pretty! Love the glitter!! Happy Fall.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Linda
What a fun, sparkly project, just perfect for fall! have a great one.
ReplyDeleteOh How pretty! Yes you must bring Fall to you if it refuses to come on its own. We have had IDEAL weather for 2 weeks in Chicago. THat may be the only two out of 52!
ReplyDeleteThey're gorgeous! Great colour combo on the glitter too.
ReplyDeleteHope you all make it safe through the storm. Have a great glittery weekend!
:)
I love putting a little bit of bling in things. Bright and sparkly adds a little bit of colour and whimsy ! I love your leaves, they are so pretty and glitzy! You are a clever girl to figure out such a great and easy craft. Glitter does have a habit of traveling though!! Batten down your hatches, was thinking of you when I watched our national news last night.
ReplyDeleteYour leaves look great. Can't wait to see the end product! My daughter used to work at Craft Warehouse. We called her the glitter queen since she'd coome home and there was glitter on her clothes and thus it ended up on the floors as well. Our leaves are lovely here, wish you had some too. I love the crunchys under my feet. I really need to sweep our walks! Have a great weekend and hopefully you won't get an over abundance of rain. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI am such a mess .....if I worked with glitter the whole HOUSE would be blinged out.
ReplyDeleteStephen's prom date lived back on a rural road that the limo could not get down. I offered her to get dressed here at the house. Her dress had glitter on the cape. I'm STILL getting glitter off the sofa. Stephen went to prom in 2001!
He calls glitter "craft-herpes" --- once you have it, you can never get rid of it. LOL
On the other hand ............your leaves are lovely and I'm sure you are much better at keeping the sparkle contained.
They look fantastic, I always have glitter in as my grandchildren love it so much.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty leaves and your very brave venturing into the field of glitter! As a mother to two girls I have bad memories of that stuff it gets everywhere and I would be finding it on everything for weeks lol. Though your pretty leaves are very tempting hmmm. Ali
ReplyDeleteWhat fun. Crafting is best when you can make a real mess - then you know you've made something. The leaves will be a great decoration for Autumn.
ReplyDeleteOooh! They are so pretty. And I like how you tied it into the book. :) Traude from Austria sent me some wooden leaves like that one time. I have them hanging on a twig tree in my dining area, no glitter involved. It sure does stay with you for a very long time. My big boy is 20 today. I just can't believe it! Hugs, Tammy
ReplyDeleteYou are so right to bring a bit of autumn colours indoors, they are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteStay safe in the storm! Lots of love from Mirjam.
I love your sparkly leaves Meredith they are so pretty, I hope the storms not too intense, have a great weekend. :) xx
ReplyDeleteThose are so pretty! October is my favorite month also and we are under the rain too. Flash flood watches today too. ~Sarah
ReplyDeleteThe leaves are wonderful! And thank you for the book recommendation, it definitely sounds like something I would enjoy. Off to Goodreads to add it to my list. Have a fabulous weekend.
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful, I love the mix of colours too. I'm not a great one for glitter, it seems to get everywhere, but I'd love some of these leaves xx
ReplyDeleteGood morning Meredith! Well, I posted a comment last night but I didn't think it looked like it went through, so here I go trying again. :-) The leaves are very very pretty and I haven't played with glitter and glue for years. I can see myself making a trip to Michaels sometime in the next few days. Now I just have to find a place to hang them. I hope you're having a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
I bet you had a time trying to keep LB out of that glitter! Surely it was attractive to him? Glad you got a few minutes of "me" time to sit and have some crafty fun. Can't wait to see the finish. I'm slowly reading the Whistling book, just a little each night, and enjoying it a lot. I cut the front off of your card and am using it for a bookmark. I just love it.
ReplyDeletesuch pretty colours and a great way to bring the shades of Autumn into your home ♥
ReplyDeleteThey are gorgeous!!!! So pretty and just absolutely right for hanging in a window all twirly and sparkly just like real leaves!!! You are a very glittery crafty lovely lady! xx
ReplyDeleteYour leaves are so pretty in the making! I am looking forward to seeing their sparkling swoosh from wherever you hang them :) Wishing you a safe and happy weekend, Meredith xx
ReplyDeleteOh Meredith, what a wonderful idea! I may have to try this as well. Yours look so lovely.
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend. It's chilly, dreary, and rainy here, but since I had no weekend plans, I'm just enjoying the cozy ... :-)
Your ornaments are so pretty, Meredith. I really like to play with glitter and glue too. It's messy but it's fun and definitely worth it, you're so right.
ReplyDeleteThose are so pretty! How glittered up is the little guy?
ReplyDeleteFun, easy and glittery - a perfect craft.

Yes to glitter! Especially when it simulates the glory of Autumn. Well done Meredith. A simple and effective technique to embellish your family home.
ReplyDeleteStephanie x
Ah, now I see. They are indeed sparkly and beautiful. Take care from Joaquin, won't you Meredith. x
