Possible answers, a finish and a little Little Buddy.................

Hello my friends, I have been missing you.  I think I might have an answer for all my headaches.  I went to the doctor yesterday after major headache number 7 in 20 days and she thought I had a sinus infection.  Of course I was not a believer in this as I had no symptoms but went and got my x-rays to be a good girl.  Sure enough she was right and now I am on antibiotics and steroids to help this go away.  I am exhausted if I am honest, they were coming so fast I could not keep up and when some occur while you are working on a special needs child, well that is just tough.  I am keeping my fingers crossed I will be headache free soon and will be able to catch up with all of you.  The computer is still causing me some visual sensitivity so I can only use it in very small doses, writing this post that has taken me much of the day to complete.

Last Friday Little Buddy started his horse riding therapy and he was so happy.  It had been raining for days so I wasn't sure we would get it in but we did.  Can you believe his insurance will pay for ten lessons?   I think it will really help his core stability, help loosen up those hips and legs, and help his trunk control.  Its is a very far drive but it is worth it to get him the help he needs.

I finished my second Ete Cardigan by We Are Knitters.  I tried a different sleeve on this one because the last one I made the sleeve was just too wide at the end, beautiful but wide.  Okay for a twenty something but not so great for me.  I tried all different combinations of stitches and finally went with a decreasing double crochet.  It ended up a bit wide at the top but still really works.  And best of all the sweater fits and I really think I will use it.  Well maybe when it isn't 92 degrees out.  I used almost the total amount of 5 skeins of  yarn.  I wasn't playing yarn chicken because I have three more skeins in this color I ordered by accident, still it was nice not to break into a new skein.  I made the L/XL with a size H hook, and We Are Knitters, The Cotton yarn in the color Wine.  Approximately 1,160 yards of yarn used for this sweater.  Number 3 will be started in a little while, I have a few other things to make first.

I thought I would show you the boys in my office while Little Buddy typed his spelling words this week.  I am going to start focusing more on typing because that will be necessary for his future success.  I bribed him with one grain sweetened chocolate chip for every word he typed, he loved it. We had some neruopsychological testing done this week and while he has made absolutely amazing progress in his life we still have a long way to go.  I was a bit overwhelmed with the information but now that I have had time to absorb it all I am in the planning stages to get him the help he needs.  I am always better when I have a plan.  The one thing the psychologist said was she was amazed he is even functioning at all with all the brain damage he had at birth.  She told me she had never in all her years of testing come across a child with this much damage that has rewired his brain this way.  I told her she has joined a club of all of us who are astonished by his continued amazing progress.  We have many mountains to climb with this miracle magic boy of mine, but I am betting on him and that amazing brain of his.

Hope to see all your news soon my friends and catch up on all your news.  Have a great day.

  1. You'll have to get LB a new tee that says "I'm only here to ride the horses". And change his nickname from Little Buddy to Super Brain. I've read about the plasticity of brains but not in children. Glad you (hopefully) found a solution to your frequent headaches. Around here, it is hay fever season - I sometimes use a neti pot to counteract that. And that is one lovely cardigan!

  2. I am so happy he gets to ride horses! What a great experience and I hope it gives him the "leg up" that you're hoping for. If nothing else, he'll have wonderful memories of the big beautiful beasts. Bravo on the sweater finish. You're amazing. Those two dogs of yours are something, I would love to hug them. I think your little guy will love typing, he loves machines so much. I hope the drugs fix you up and the headaches go away for good. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  5. First, I'm glad you got to the bottom of the headaches. I actually have a sinus infection as well, and a constant sore throat. I'm just finishing up my last day of antibiotics and nothing. I'll be knocking on my doctor's door this week.

How you are able to work on projects, and the cardigan is gorgeous, I could never focus. Even reading is tough.

I love that Buddy is making process. You are doing so many amazing things with him to keep him progressing. I truly admire you for that. Love all the pics also!

Take care, Meredith, and put yourself first once in awhile!

I'm so pleased he's having the chance to do some riding, that's a great opportunity, I'm glad he enjoyed it. He t-shirt is BRILLIANT! If ever a t-shirt was made for someone! Sorry you've had such bad headaches, I hope it is all resolved for you very soon. It is hard to function and get everything done when you're not well. Look after yourself, CJ xx

  11. Good Morning Meredith. I'm hoping that the medicines give you relief from the headaches. I sure unerstand how miserable they can be.
I loved seeing the pictures of your boys. Horse Therapy! How wonderful for your little guy. I'll bet he won't want to stop after the 10 sessions. I'm sure he'll grow to love the magical beasts that are called horses. They are such gentle, smart creatures. I smiled when I read the new doctors comment. We all knew it already. He is growing by leaps and bounds physically and mentally because of the lavish amounts of love, affection and yes, even discipline when needed. YOU and your amazing family is the exact thing that he needed in his life. I'm so proud to call you my friend Meredith.
And finally, that sweater is gorgeous. I can't believe you crafted it with the headaches you've been suffering from. I love the color. We could use a sweater here this morning. It was 52F when I woke up but is supposed to top out int he 80's so warmth will be back soon.
I hope you have a wonderful week!
    Blessings and love,
    Betsy

  14. Great news that there is a relatively simple cause and solution for your headaches. May they be gone asap and for good.

I'm certain your love, care and belief in LB have been a major force in LB's progress to date.

I truly believe in the body's power to heal itself - in fact, I think that is the body's default position in the first instance: to work towards healing first - and one cannot underestimate the influence of emotions and conscious will on that healing process.

With exciting recent discoveries about brain plasticity, there is plenty of hope for good outcomes for LB. There are so many stories of people triumphing over adversity against the odds and now LB's is one of them. Keep going, both of you. Nothing worthwhile is easy but the life of a child is totally worthwhile and valuable.

All the best with 'The Plan'. xx

  15. That's great news if you've finally got a reason for all those headaches, fingers crossed that you now get some relief. How lovely that Little Buddy is getting to ride horses, I've heard such positive things about this sort of therapy, and it's such fun too.

  16. Sinus infections are the Worst. I had chronic ones for months and months at one point, and they really take it all out of you. My sympathies. Here's hoping they put you on something that does the trick. They really make you feel like crap all over.

Love the idea of equestrian therapy for your son. Keep us posted!

  17. Nice to see you back and thrilled you've gotten to the bottom of the headache problems. Would imagine after a few days on the antiotiotics you'll feel like a new person. Sure hope so. LOVE the sweater, the color and the pattern. Haven't crocheted one is years, perhaps I should again. Glad Little Buddy is doing so well. I understand horse therapy is quite a huge success. My SIL is a horsey person and often has kids with issue ride or take some part in the car. They truly love it. My SIL is a published Children's author and has a series of book you might enjoy reading with Buddy. Tango and Tilly. Tango is the name of my SIL's horse.

  18. That is a big relief that the cause of your headaches can be treated easily. You will be back to normal in no time. I love that cardigan and the colour is perfect for cold days. As for what you and Buddy have achieved, it's inspiring and can only bode well for the future.

  19. Oh, a sinus infection. Well, that must be a relief to know that it wasn't consecutive migraines. I hope the treatment brings you relief. That's fantastic about Buddy. I am not surprised. He really seems to be thriving with you.

  20. Thanks for the progress report, Meredith. I especially appreciate it since you have fought through the pain to compose it, and am asking the Lord to banish the pain. I am so pleased that LB has the opportunity to have horse riding therapy, and that he has good medical care along with your loving family support. In my heart, I am encouraged to realize from his testing that LB is making miraculous progress and my prayer is that the Lord will continue it. The new sweater is lovely and I am not a fan of wide wrist openings either. As a matter of fact, I have been wondering if I can adjust two sweaters I have that I love except for the sleeve length and width at the wrist. You give me the courage to try. Please give Hank and Bear love pats and hugs from me. xxxxxxx

  21. Amazing boy, amazing mum I would say. I bet you are all really pleased. Your cardigan is beautiful, especially the back and there is nothing more satisfying than having a tiny amount of yarn left over. Keep taking the meds, hope you are better soon. Jo xx

  25. What a beautiful cardigan! I love the color but those headaches can't be fun. So glad you found what was causing them. Horse therapy will be wonderful for little B. It's not only good for core muscles but also works wonders for their sense of accomplishment. You can just see the joy in his little face!

  26. Little Buddy is doing great and is absolutely amazing because of the constant love and support he receives from all of you. Horse riding will be such a wonderful experience for so many reasons. Hope by now you've gotten relief from those migraines. The sweater you made is gorgeous and is in one of my favorite colors. Watching the news, hoping Dorian won't cause much damage as it makes landfall. Take care!
