Happy New Year! We celebrated in style, going to visit my dear friend Lynda for an early dinner, a bit of horn blowing and then back home to read and get to bed by 9:00. Still it was a lot of fun for one little boy I know.
As always I was tired from cleaning like a mad woman, I need to clean the old year out of my house before the new year sets in. Christmas decorations were put away, showers and bathrooms are pristine, bedding changed and clean, objects dusted, floors vacuumed and washed, and paperwork completed. There was even a small closet sort out. I made new cloth napkins from material I had had on hand a few weeks. I am loving these simple serged napkins from fabric fat quarters. I read a bit, and actually made a square for Little Buddy's new crochet blanket. I was in bed and asleep by 11, which is late for me. A perfect New Year's Eve. I don't like to start the New Year off tending to anything from the year before, I like to be rested and have an easy day as the new year begins.
I have no words of wisdom about the last year. It has taken our breath away, but I am grateful my family has done well so far with the pandemic and political stress. These things won't go away this year but I am grateful to have made it through with my emotional and physical health relatively intact. My oldest lost a dear friend last year in an freak auto accident, but he is moving on with his life and still trying to attend to his friends parents on occasion. So many of you have lost loved ones to Covid 19, or just lost loved ones due to other causes, I am sending you all love as you start a new year without people you love. I am just grateful this morning as I take a quiet walk around my house while Little Buddy sleeps in. Grateful to have made it to 2021, grateful to have a family, home, food, gas in my car, a job I really love, good friends, and puppies to love and cuddle with. There will be much to sort out this year with Little Buddy and many other things, but I will take it day by day and work it out.
Sending you all love as you travel into 2021. Stay safe my friends.
I like to start the New Year with all the old clutter swept away as well. Lovely photo of your little man, and I am wishing you all a very happy New Year. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteHere's to a sane 2021. You ushered the new year in wonderfully.
ReplyDeleteYour post echoes my own sentiments. I feel a great deal of gratitude, too. Despite the obvious devastation wreaked by the pandemic and the current administration, there have been so many signs of Courage, Goodness, and Healing Love. I feel lighter already knowing that Positive Change is on its way.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!🍾🥳 May the new year bring you much peace, good health, joy and suitable calmness. All that is needed to make your life sweet.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Meredith! It is a great idea to clean New Year's Eve to start fresh for the New Year.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you and yours xx

ReplyDeleteHe melts my heart.

That looks quite perfect -- a good friend, a darling boy, and a noisemaker. And home early! As much as I wanted to kick 2020 out the door at midnight, I went to bed at 10:30! I woke up about 12:15 and yelled Happy New Year to the cat in another room and back to sleep! What happened to those days of champagne at midnight? Not this year for sure! And you know what? I loved it.
ReplyDeleteAll good wishes for a beautiful new year. (And I so admire your cleaning. I felt accomplished because I vacuumed!)
Happy New Year to you and yours, wishing you everything that you wish for yourself.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! I just finished putting away all my holiday stuff and I'm beat. I went through years of stuff. Tomorrow it's off to the dump with the worst of it. I like starting the year fresh too...now if I'd only not forgotten my black eyed peas. I could use all the luck I can get. Darn.
ReplyDeleteI hope you can continue to rest this weekend--we have high hopes for the New Year! May yours be very happy!
ReplyDeleteI admire your cleaning mojo. Before I get to cleaning, I need to get a lot more decluttering done!
ReplyDeleteLB will bring challenges next year, but also great joy!
Happy New Year to you too Meredith. In Scotland, many many years ago, it wasn't unheard of for a woman to be still cleaning her house well into the late hourse of New Year's Eve, to await the arrival of the New Year. Not so much these days but I did do the good old clean up pre-Christmas.Anyway, nobody was allowed into each others' houses after Boxing Day this year so you could leave your house as messy as you liked!!Good 2021 to you and yours, Meredith.xxx
ReplyDeleteGood Morning and Happy New Year sweet Meredith. Your post brought a smile to my face as I like to do the same. I like all decorations put away and a clean house, (RV) to start the new year. Our lights are still outside on the trees and bushes because we got 12 1/2 inches of snow on Wednesday and they are buried, but as soon as we can, those will be put away too.
ReplyDeleteI have never chosen a word before for a new year but yesterday I did. My word for 2021 is HOPE. I have hope that it will be a better year for us all.
Blessings and love,
Betsy
Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping you find the peace you are looking for. Happy New Year in your lovely clean house! Jo xx
ReplyDelete2020 was quite the year for sure. We never know what will happen daily. So far only one person died in last year. Kind uncle. We've not been to PA for years now. I need to pull ornaments off tree this weekend and get outdoor mesh lights unplugged as well. We were up late but slept well. Watched fireworks that I didn't expect to see from my sidewalf by house!!! Have a blessed and safe 2021!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed with your cleaning skills! We're pacing ourselves and taking decorations down bit by bit. Family room and dining room are de-xmas-ed but the living room is the biggie. Yep, we both have a lot to be thankful for.. just 19 more days until the best thing ever.. orange satan evicted from the White House.
ReplyDelete((hugs)), Teresa :-)
We will go step by step. We will see ... All the best! Regula
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year. Wishing you and your lovely family all the very best for 2021 xx
ReplyDeleteI did put the decorations away and sort of cleaned the bathrooms, but that's about it. Cleaning and sorting and organizing is an ongoing process around here. Nothing ever seems to stay clean even though it's just the two of us. Sending lots of love your way, and wishes for a healthy, happy new year for all.
ReplyDeleteI feel the "messiness" is building up around me too but I can't do much about it until the evening of the 6th January the Kings Day when Christmas finishes here. I can get my ironing done though which I have been avoiding over Christmas so I now have a pile of it!! Grr! Brilliant photo of Little buddy!! A happy New Year Mere and may it be better! keep well Amanda x
ReplyDeleteI give myself the first week of the new year to get life in order. My daughter's birthday is Dec 31st, so we were always still in 'party mode' when the kids were growing up. Happy New Year, Meredith! xo
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year dearest Mere!
ReplyDeleteisn't it exciting? a brand new start!
I have a good feeling about this new year.
it's full of hope and love. and people like You.
thank you for sharing your life with us! and Little Buddy and the puppies. it's all good. XO
FIrst of all, I just love you . Whenever you post, I feel a connection to the world. This holds true for many in our craft world. But , you sharing Lil B is always most fun .
ReplyDeleteI must have channeled your cleaning before 2020 was over. I , as you know, unscrewed every single electric outlet and got all the disgusting bugs out. Then, Fireman had said WE should clean the kitchen cabinet doors (there are many) and also the ones in the bathrooms. HE was busy doing something or other and I did the whole thing myself. Is there a less satisfying job than dusting? Ugh. Done. And finally, with my new label maker, I labeled 20 boxes in the crawlspace and 35 files in our cabinets.
I think I should just sit and knit now til the inaugration. Honestly, without our barn volunteering, winter could involve something new in our lives. I'm trying to figure out what.
Mere, I have to fix that blogger setting to kathy b, from unknown...maybe today...
ReplyDeleteI saw midnight for the first time in a while, due to my starting "From Here to Eternity" a little late.
ReplyDelete2020 got me to your blog, and for that I am grateful.
Happy 2021 New Year Meredith and Family
ReplyDeleteHugs and Love
Joy
Happy New Year, Mere! Looks like LB had a fun celebration. Your Christmas cactus is very pretty and well behaved unlike mine that blooms on Thanksgiving! It was fun to see all of your photos! Stay well!
ReplyDeleteI love a clean house for the new year too. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThat's the spirit! Gratitude makes such a difference in our perspective. Your dogs and Buddy look so sweet. You have inspired me to finish my cleaning.
ReplyDeleteI'm still cleaning and purging and organizing - seems like it never ends!
ReplyDeleteWishing you much love and many blessings in this new year.
xoxo
Happy new year I hope it brings peace for you and your family and little Buddy continues to thrive.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you Meredith. I also feel the need for a good clean and tidy at this time of year. Which is not to say it all gets done!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend,
Jillxo
