Trying to process this week..........

I am trying hard to process all that has happened this week.  Aren't we all?  I am finding it very hard to come up with words for all that has happened. The week started off for me with a UTI, not fun at all my friends and ended with a massive migraine.  By mid week I was home early from work because my stomach was just so upset with the medication I was on.  I was back to work on Wednesday, a day we will all remember just exactly where we were when our democracy was assaulted by a madman encouraging others to rise and destroy what our nation holds dear. In the home I was at, staunch trump supporters I might add, I tried to listen to what the dreaded and misleading Fox news was saying, but I was too far away.  But not to far to not see the images flashed across the screen of angry and violent rioters, not patriots I might add, storming and trying to destroy our Nations Capitol.  It still, days later is so hard for me to even comprehend.  It is hard to digest, to really think it wasn't just a very bad movie with horrible actors in a twisted plot scene that was never going to be real.  Yet, here we are.

I would like to say I have been through all the regular feelings of anger, disbelief, rage, and an inability to fully comprehend what has happened.  But the most I have felt, after all that has happened for five years, because I am counting the year of lies and horrible behavior before that last election in 2016, what I feel is not surprised.  I am frankly not surprised we are here in this place.  When you elect a madman this is what you get.  When you support a man, who has said or tweeted over 23,000 confirmed lies, this is what you get.  When you elect a man, who has over 372,000 Covid deaths on his black soul, this is what you get.  I blame him, I blame those spineless republicans in the House and Senate who perpetuate lies of election fraud just to flame the crazy base that supports him.  But most of all I blame the voters that support him.  And if that is you, well so be it.  I blame the average American who seeks to believe in lies and not the truth of what really happens in elections that are safe and true.  I blame those that made this man a God, a God above the God they have pledged to love and believe in.  I blame those that think lie, after lie, after lie are all okay, hurting women, taking children away from their families at the border, hurting our environment, inciting violence, changing our relationships with countries across the globe, being friendly with deadly dictators, and supporting those of great wealth at the cost of so many.  I blame those that feel God elected him but did not do so for other presidents like Barak Obama or Joe Biden.  I blame all Americans that believe their gun rights are more important than human rights.  I could go on and on, but feel like it has already all been said.

I pray for our country, I also pray for all of those who have led us on this path.  I don't believe for one minute I am better than anyone, but I do believe, we as a civilized society, or what I thought was a civilized society, need to help those in need.  That it is our moral obligation to help, and don't start throwing out Socialism comments on this blog because I won't have it.  Our government pays for Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid, it provides education and healthcare to those in need.  So if you are lucky enough to receive any of these things, if you or a loved one has ever received unemployment or food stamps then you need to stop talking about Socialism to me.  I am blessed that Little Buddy gets Medicaid for all of his specialists, medications and therapies, we would not have been able to adopt him if he did not get this help, frankly we could not afford to help him.

So if you made it this long in this very wordy blog post I thank you.  If I have offended you so be it, I wish you well as you move on from this space of mine in blogland, and I wish for you that you see the reality of what has happened in the last four years, not my reality, but the factual reality of what a mad man has done to our country. I wish that you see the facts.  And I wish, as a country, we can come to terms with what has happened the last four years, cumulating this past week with one of the darkest moments in our history, and that we can move forward.

Stay safe my friends, stay safe.

  1. Bravo, Meredith! I agree with every word you shared with us. What I see is you can either be on the right side of history, or the wrong side. I pity those who ignored all the facts of how bad that man and supported him because he was running for election as a Republican. There are good republicans, but there are bad ones. The R's have demonized "socialism" as equal to "communism" but that is NOT true.. but R voters bought into that lie and it was used to control them. Sad. But we now have a president who really does care for his country. We have a chance to heal. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  2. I used to tell my classes that humanity's worst/most dangerous/most deadly invention was Rationalization. If you are able to convince yourself, or convice others, of anything, you aren't going to accept responsibility for anything.

  3. Rats! I had my comment written and Xed out before captcha. I think. Or maybe you approve. Well, I'll say (more or less) again and you can delete this if you got the other more coherent one! Basically, it was "well said, spot on!" You say it so well and three cheers. I couldn't agree more. Then I mentioned how I wrote how I was disgusted with him, his mod and "you, too" (in conjunction with supporting him. Most supported that comment but one blog visitor said she was hurt by those words. Well,I don't like to hurt anyone, but what I said was true. And he has hurt so many with his policies and rhetoric, not to mention his actions regarding Covid. I was also glad you connected the socialism argument to "but if you get medicare, etc...." because we've been arguing that for years to some (with little affect).

But what I really want to know is how does Buddy process this? How much does he know, did he see? What kinds of things did he ask? How do you explain to a child?

  4. Agree with everything you say.Roll on the 20th and Biden taking over.I just cannot believe that people are taken in by his lies and so many as well.
Things aren’t much better here in the uk!

  5. Well said Meredith! I'm very far removed from all of this, living up here in sunny Canada, but it's all over our news stations and every where on my feed, so I really can't get away from it! I will say that 5 years in, I still shake my head with how many followers and believers he has. To risk your life for a madman makes no sense to myself, my family and our community up here. I'm happy this is almost over and that soon a leader will rise above the craziness and everyone can breathe again. Be well. Stay safe. Think of you and your family and your community often. Almost there!

  6. Yes, well said. It's hard to believe people voted for him and are STILL supporting him, it really is. Thank goodness he is on his way out. The only way is up. CJ xx

  8. Very well said Meredith, I watched with shock and horror as events infolded. Let's hope that once that man has gone things will get a whole lot better. Hugs xx

  9. It was sad to read and listen to what happened in our nation's capitol. Hope people come to good and kind senses and care for others rather than stealing and breaking windows and being in places not allowed. Praying it all goes away soon. I hope you will feel better soon.

  10. Well said, Meredith. It's been dominating our news here in Canada, too. Praying for your country and hoping that things will go well until the 20th (and afterwards).

  11. What a great summary of five sad and destructive years of — as you put it so well — a madman!

  12. I was on an interstate ferry, travelling between Tasmania and Victoria, Australia, as all this was unfolding. Many of the people on the boat were glued to the TV, mouths agape and heads shaking. It looked like something from a 3rd world country. So many in Australia are hoping that peace can return to your country soon.
And as regards "socialism": you have nailed it. We have universal health care which I know is regarded with enormous suspicion in your country...but I know where I would rather get sick. Whether I got better or not does not depend on how much money I have... People also forget things like schools, police, major roads and highways, firefighting...do they regard those as "socialism" as well? What is seen as sensible centre politics here seems to be regarded as scary left wing in your countey. I guess it depends on your perspective! Good luck and stay both well and strong.

  13. Buddy looks so cute and calm at the computer. Your dogs always make me chuckle. Their expressions are so funny! It was horrible what happened on Wednesday. I had noticed local men acting the same way towards me on Monday. Certain people have become so lawless and seem to be excited by violence. It's such a shame.

  15. Yes Meredith, I tire of all the Socialist talk. I am now trying to figure out how I can help those around me that are falling apart. My therapist said Saturday, that it had been "A WEEK " alright. I was so grateful we had an appointment planned anyhow. I feel so so far from Zach and Allison an Will. I cannot focus on that. we are all in contact. A small fire lit in the snowy woods last night, soothed this aching soul for a bit. Im so sorry about the UTI and the snowball effect. This happens to me as well.
Lil Buddy is looking good though at the computer!!!!! He is our hope. He is our future. He is amazing

  16. I have read the other comments and will only add how saddened and shocked I am about this week. I know things like this are not God honoring. I detest how it is all tearing our country apart. Families are being destroyed. We need to remember how to love each other.
On the positive side. I loved the Little Buddy photo doing school in his pj's. The fur boys who look like they just had haircuts. And I think all of your sheep are just wonderful. They put a smile on my face.
    Love and Blessings,
    Betsy

  17. Sending our very best wishes to you and your family while we look on to these desperately disturbing scenes from here in the UK. I am heartbroken for all the wonderful people in the US - such as yourselves - and what you are having to live through. I hope that out of this some good may finally come. Stay safe and well, dear Meredith and family

  18. I can only echo what everyone else has said. Here in the UK, I watched with horror, but sadly, little surprise, as a man who claims to love his country, incited his followers to violence and anarchy. I hope, once Joe Biden is inaugurated, your country starts to heal. xx

  19. It has been all over our news which I watched with my heart breaking. I am deeply saddened by it all and pray that there will be healing and your beautiful country is united once more. Take care and stay safe dear friend.

  20. Those horrific scenes were shown all around the world, what a sad day. Let's hope that things get a whole lot better in the time to come, not long now.

  21. Being a Boomer I've always known that Trump was nothing but a cheap con and a liar. It was never much of a secret back in the 70's and 80's. When he rose up the ranks in politics I felt sure the press would take him apart but instead they spent their time picking on Hillary. Even after four years of having his shame exposed I am still seeing so many pro-Trump signs and flags in our town that it sickens me. All I have to say is that we have a serious mental health issue in this country when that creepy gasbag who pays off porn stars, stole from his own charity and defrauded students is your hero. At this point it should be a recognized illness.

  22. As you know from my own post on this, I agree one hundred percent. Your points are true, and your points about the republicans' false flags of socialism are so well made. They have succeeded in becoming the party which panders to the ignorant and uninformed, the weakminded and the gullible. They have turned their backs on their own beliefs of conservatism, family values, and true patriotism. They stand for nothing credible now, having overrun themselves with lies and conspiracy theories. May they serve to only cannibalize themselves, and quickly, too.

  24. It will take a lot of work but, hopefully, Biden/Harris and the democratic-led House and Senate will be able to show how our country can work together for all people.

  27. As usual, you said it all, Meredith. I really and truly cannot believe how easily so many people are brainwashed by disinformation and lies and yet they literally believe they are truthsayers rather than the fools that they really are. The Instigator-in-Chief got exactly what he wanted and I pray he and all his goons and buffoons pay dearly for it.

    Take care of yourself.
    Hugs,

  28. I am always late. because for some reason I only get notice of your post in my email a day late!
but I at least get to read all the comments that way.
I salute you Meredith! you have courage and a true spirit. EVERYTHING you said is spot on.
this Mad Man has NEVER been for this country. he has ONE loyalty and that is to himself.
it is not over. I fear for Mr Biden. these terrorists have been told to strike again... only this time they are to be ARMED with GUNS!
I heard that on a news channel yesterday by a reputable journalist. WHY is nobody talking about it? with GUNS??? so the carnage can be even worse? OMG. it's not over until that man is locked up. I live in a state that STILL can see no wrong in him! it's simply unbelievable. who ARE they? they make me think of Nazi Germany. that's who they are. and it's frightening.

  29. Well said Meredith. I avoid the news where I can, it has just been too much in the past several years. But I had to see for myself just a snip-it to be able to believe what I was being told was happening. I admit, I only watched a few seconds, and that was all I needed. Madness. Plain and simple and terrifying.
I'm from Canada and I constantly hope that both our governments both do a better job in the upcoming years.

Wishing you and your family a happier year in 2021,
    Andrea

  32. Excellent post Mere!
I and many others are so looking forward to the 20th January when the USA will have a new president and also over time to see the USA return to a stable united country once again. I was shocked the day that deranged, unhinged person became the President of the United States and shocked again on watching the horrendous situation he provoked last week. I call that sedition!! All that you have mentioned here clearly reflects what many throughout the world think about this odious character. I truly hope he will be impeached and never allowed to hold an official office again! Stand firm Mere...you have the right of it! Amanda x

  34. I'm not offended. I'm totally with you.
I've spent the last four years reading about Europe in the 20th century. Trump is another Hitler, Stalin, Mao...these authoritarians are all the same in the end. It's a scary time for our democracy.

  35. Such a crazy time! Watching the second impeachment is mind boggling listening to these enabling Republicans. I have never been in the GOP, but I use to vote for whom I thought would best represent me. The party of (gag me), law and order, well I will never vote a Republican in my life time, the party that supported The Big Lie and an INSURRECTION/Failed COUP. Good Lord......

Let's just hope he sees sense and goes quietly. Thinking of you, Meredith and your countrymen/women, in fact, the whole wide world, on this historic week coming.xxx
