How is your weekend?

How is your weekend?  I hope you are all having a lovely time.  I am home with a very sick 17 year old.  He was diagnosed with Strep on Thursday and was feeling great once those antibiotics kicked in.  Then yesterday he woke up with a fever and now has type A flu.  This is not great timing as he has a very big swim meet next weekend.  This is the swim meet he has been training for all winter.  This is the swim meet college coaches look at to determine if they are interested in you as a recruit.  While my son has been getting some nice recruiting letters in the mail, we don't want them to think he isn't doing well.  They don't know he has been sick, they just look at times.  So please send him positive healing thoughts.
So while I have been home I have been trying to get a few things done.  I finally put the  finishing   touches on the felted hexagon bag.   It is really a lovely bag and I think the girlfriend, of the young man living with us will like it.  I crocheted a strap, felted it and sewed on the handles with a button.  There is a button on each side securing the strap.  I didn't get a good picture of this, but I like the look of it.  Sometimes when making a felted bag, you poke through the felt to secure the handles.  I really don't like this as the hole you make always seems to get bigger, and the handles pull free.

Yes, I have been gardening.  So sorry for those of you up north in the cold and snow.  It is really a tad early for Florida, and I know I am taking a risk.  But the temperatures have been in the mid 70's.  Hopefully I will be busy next weekend at a swim meet, so I decided to clean up the dead debris and plant.
I love snap dragons.  They have the most amazing color and the shape of them are so interesting.  I love cutting back all the dead areas on my plants.  And boy did we have a ton of dead this year.  We had several frosts in December and it has been brown here ever since.  The maple leaves are now starting to poke out, and the grass is starting to get green.  Spring is trying to make herself present.  So there is hope for all of you up north.  You might be cringing at my post about spring in Florida.  Just remember in the summer when you are enjoying the beauty of your gardens....I will be in sweltering heat and humidity with a garden that is dead because of the intense sun.  It all balances out in the end.
And I did manage to go yarn shopping yesterday to start making the beautiful Japanese Flower Shawl that is all the rage.  I picked this Berroco Prima Cotton is some sub duded colors.  I didn't want it to be crazy bright and colorful.  I am hoping the cotton  doesn't stretch too much.  I forced myself to put the yarn in this basket and not touch it again.  My fingers are itching to give this pattern a try.  But I made myself focus on more hexagons last night.  I think the new yarn and flower pattern are going to win today, but last night I was still trying to be strong.  There is just something about new yarn that makes me want to get started on a new project.  Special thanks to Teresa for help with the pattern.  I think blogging friends are so wonderful.

Hope you are having a peaceful weekend.  Stay healthy and find time to do what you love.

Sending good thoughts for you son! I'm so sorry to hear that he's sick. I know how important those college coach visits are, we went through that last fall with baseball. I hope he recovers quickly!

The bag is just beautiful, Meredith. It is sure to be treasured!

What a lovely post Meredith! Love your flowers and your warm temperatures. The felted bag is gorgeous and such a nice gift. I'm sure it will be loved. Oh, I do hope your son is feeling better and able to swim this week. One good thing about the young (among many) is that they do seem to snap back quickly!!! Happy Day to you, xoRobin❤

Give my love to Dave. Hopefully, he will beat this and be tip-top for the meet.

We are supposed to get 2-4 inches of snow tomorrow. Don't ask me how depressed I am.

Oh, I love snapdragons too - great colours and always fun to play with the flowers - I loved doing that as a child.

The bag looks fantastic - I love how you attached the handles, very clever.

And hope your son is doing better and swims well next weekend.

I hope your son feels much better soon. I know how important the upcoming swim meet is.
Your felted bag came out great! I love what you did with the straps. I really like how the colors still stand out but yet the whole thing looks 'softer.'
I was tempted to cut back my rose bush but know better to start with that too early. Gotta wait till at least April.
Starting new projects is very exciting :-)

Flowers! Wow--they look fabulous!!!!!! Especially since we are getting snow today. But at least it justifies that stash of wool that I have.........
