Happy Mother's Day

Before I wish you all a Happy Mother's Day, I thought I would show you my finished crochet sweater.  Sorry for the poor photo, but I was just so excited it was finished, I had to post about it right away.  Do you see how it crosses over in the front?  The edges are done, the buttons sewn on.  I love it!
It fits very nicely.  I think the arms are a little wide at the ends, but it still looks good.  I may wear it tonight when I go out to dinner with my husband and some friends.  I love the color and love the yarn.  Just to repeat myself a little bit, the pattern is called the Maggie Wrap Top, from the book Blueprint Crochet, by Robyn Chachula.  Another beautiful Interweave Press published book.  The yarn AslanTrends Royal Alpaca.  It took approximately 1000 yards on a H sized crochet hook. Project number 24 for the year is complete!  Hope you like it.

Mother's Day

I am having a difficult time writing this post for some reason.  My Mother has been slowly fading for the last few years.  I have been watching this and mourning this process.  I wish to have the young, vital Mom I had, back for just one day, so I could ask her a few things I never bothered with when I was young.  What was it like to be a mother to four crazy kids?  Did you feel happy?  Did you feel lost?  I think we think of our Mother's as just that, a Mother, not a person with hopes, and dreams, and fears of their own.  Wouldn't it be fun to be the age you are now, and talk to your Mom when she was that age?  I am 46 so I could go out for lunch with my 46 year old Mom and chat.  Would she have been much different than I am now?

Being a Mother is wonderful, and miserable all at the same time. It makes you laugh, cry and want to rip your hair out.   It makes you lose sleep, get grey hair, and lots and lots of wrinkles. It makes you rejoice, pray and pray some more.  You don't have to have children to be a Mother.  So many women take care of their husbands, parents, friends, pets, nieces and nephews, and sisters, yes that is you  Claudia.  Women, in general take care of the world don't they?

So to all the wonderful women out there, taking care of the world I want to wish you a wonderful Mother's Day.  To all of you grieving the loss of a Mother, I send you my love and prayers.  To all of you with small children and teenagers, I send you the gift of patience, and hopes for a better wrinkle cream.  And to all of you wonderful women in blogland, I send you my wish for a very creative life, where you find joy and peace.

My special gift this year for Mother's Day, is my baby turns 14!  This is a first that his birthday falls on this day.  Happy Birthday Buddy.  You are a wonderful, sensitive young man.  Things will get easier as you get out of this testosterone, crazed storm.  I love you and I am proud of you.

Love your post Meredith. Especially about your mom, I am there also, my mom has been slipping and it is sad. I want my spunky mom back and the mother who did not forget anything! Oh it would be so nice to ask all those questions and just enjoy the person not just the mom. BUT on a happier note I feel so blessed to still have her with us. I wish you a wonderful Mother's Day. AND please someone invent a miracle face cream FAST!!!!

Such a touching post Meredith, right from your heart, I love that. I realize I am very, very blessed with a 64 year old mum and 91 year old granny, both healthy and present. I talk to them a lot, always have, always will, about any thinkable subject, what a bliss! Now I should only practice more scrapbooking to save all of that for my girls... So on top of the perfect cream, canned spare time would be great as well! Your sweater turned out lovely, you will look stunning in it.
Thank you for your sweet comment on my blog.

Thank you Meredith for such a loving, and thoughtful Mother's day post. This will be my first Mother's Day without my loving mother. Kinda bitter sweet for me. I rejoice for the fact that she is no longer in any kind of pain and now in sweet Heaven, but mourn for my best friend whose kind voice I miss so very much! Happy Mother's Day to all you lovely ladies everywhere.

Oh dear, your words about your Mother just touched a nerve so deep. We don't give our Mothers credit for being human because we need them to be super human for us. And when they live up to that expectation, we just simply write it off as "they are doing their job". U-N-T-I-L we get there ourselves. Motherhood is such an experience of internal growth...that just never ends! I've had to face all the things I don't really like about myself as a Mother. And if I don't face it for myself, my child most certainly points it out to me in one way or another. LOL Meredith, I hope you have a very special day - but before that, I hope you have a wonderfully happy evening wearing that "beeeeeeeeutiful" new sweater you made! Wow...I have soooo far to go before I would dare to think I might be able to do something like that! I sit in awe of your creation. And I most certainly adore that color! Have a fun evening and be radiant! x&o, Annette

Your sweater is beautiful. Thanks for your thoughts on mothers; I think we are made so aware that the time with our children passes too quickly, but we often forget the same is true with our mother. Although my mother is still very vibrant and active at age 71 (sometimes more energetic than I am!), I have been much more aware that time is running out. Thank you for the gentle reminder. And sending good thoughts your way as you grieve for your mother.

Hey M. Your sweater turned out magnificent, wish we could see a photo of you wearing it. I went through your sadness as I saw my mom deteriorate with Alzheimers.. we lost her a year ago. The last many years weren't happy being with her as she didn't know us and before that she caused many problems for her 3 daughters it was very hard for us. I have to try to forget the hard times and go back to remember her in happier times. Happy Mother's Day to you, my friend. Hugs, Teresa :-)

My baby turns 1 today! So my mothers day has been more about him than me, but isn't that always the way with mothers?
Your post is so true, I must take the time to talk more to my mum about these things while I still can. I sure do appreciate her more since I've become a mother too.
I love your crochet sweater - gorgeous!

Happy Mother's Day, sister-of-mine! You are a great Mom. Give a hug and a kiss to all those you mother, especially my two nephews and my furry nephew. And I'm sending you a big old hug and kiss.

Happy Mother's Day, Meredith! Twice, as you were a Mother 14 years ago too :)
My mother is turning 70 this year--we'll probably celebrate her birthday together with my son's, he's turning 18, and her husband, who'll be 81. A triple birthday party for some of the most important people in my life! Than God her head is still fine, though her body is slowly giving in...
As the years go by we get to love them more and more... as we understand all they went through for us!
By the way, I love your sweater :) both the color and the pattern.

Beautiful sweater Meredith and a beautiful post for Mother's Day. Your words are so true. You have me thinking... Maybe I should be asking my Mom some of those questions now. Hope your day was fill with all the people and things you love. :)
