65 Years!!!!

This is a picture of my parents 65 years ago today.  My Mother was just 18 and my Father 22.  My Father was fresh back from fighting in what was then known as Burma.  They fell in love while writing letters to each other during the war.  Four children, 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren later their story is still unfolding.
I think they both look so beautiful and so full of hope.  My Mother hated this dress can you believe it?  My Grandmother, the boss of all bosses made her buy it.  I think she looks so beautiful, so classic and so excited.

I went to visit them today to take them some cards and very special yummy Anniversary cupcakes.  My Mom wasn't feeling well, I think the visits with my niece and her daughter, although short in nature really tired her out.  It is hard for her to try and be,"up" for visitors.  Her body is wearing out and she is so tired all the time.  My Dad is taking great care of her, but it is sad.  So while I am so happy that they reached this amazing milestone, I am saddened to think that the end may be approaching in the not to distant future.

My parents have been through so much in their lifetime together, anyone married that long surely would have, too.  They are still devoted to each other and really, really love each other.  If we could all be that lucky in life.

This is in fact a beautiful love story--a long, beautiful love story. And the sad part, I'm sort of witnessing it too, over here, with my Mom and my stepdad. He's barely holding on, I'd say he's holding on to the love he and my mother have shared for about 25 years... I know it hurts to think one day we'll have to let them go, but all we can do is pray that they are as happy as they have been so far!
A great big hug
Teresa

You sweetie, I know all about this from Claudia from way back when I started with her before meeting you. Now, I know where you both get all your love and charm. Will keep you in my thoughts. I'm in the same place witha all the parents on both sides. And I'm the only girl, so quess what. I know, believe me I know, being the one close to home.

Awww.. a great tribute to your parents. Too bad your Mom didn't like the dress.. I think it's beautiful. We have lost all 4 of our parents in the last 8 years.. it's not an easy time for sure. But just think of that they got to live out a full life.. that's the important thing.

((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Aren't they a gorgeous couple! And your Mum's wedding dress was absolutely beautiful. I love to hear stories like this, where couples have weathered all the storms and sailed on through, stronger than ever, it's something to admire enormously. Love Vanessa xxx

It's a great story, and you are so lucky to have both your parents (and your kids to know their grandparents). I only ever knew one of my grandparents, and my son will grow up without both of his grandfathers, which makes me very sad. It's hard to see your parents getting old, isn't it.

I so wanted to post a photo of Mom and Dad on their wedding day, but I'm far from home. So glad you did, my sister. They look so beautiful, don't they? Young, energetic and full of hope. The contrast to today makes me sad. But I'm sure glad they found each other.

Such a beautiful story, Meredith, and I just love the picture. Looking at it, I can imagine all the hopes and dreams they must have had and then to hear how they were fulfilled in your telling of it -- I love hearing real life stories like this, especially from our parents' era. Your mother is so beautiful.
