52 & 53 and I think we are done.....

Hi everyone! I hope you all are having a wonderful holiday week.  I have been missing in action,  missing in blog action that is.  I have been taking a bit of a blog break so I have lots to catch up on, on all of your wonderful blogs.  These flowers above were sent to us on Christmas Eve as a wonderful surprise from some lovely friends.  They are so gorgeous I had to share them with you.
My favorite Christmas gift was from my friend Lynda in North Carolina.  She found these little felt birds at a farmers market she frequents.  Are they not the cutest things you have ever seen?
Look at this adorable hat this grey bird is wearing.
And the red bird with her scarf and holly leaf and berries.  These lovely creatures just may be displayed all year, I can't imagine putting them in a box up in my attic.
When I have a spare moment in the months of December or January you can usually find me in my bedroom on my loom.  I have been weaving instead of sitting at my computer and blogging, let me show you what I made.  The grey shawl/scarf above is made with very lite weight acrylic yarn with tiny sequins in it.  You can just barely see them in the picture above.  It is soft and really beautiful.  There is a tiny problem....I goofed up on the loom by turning the first corner in the wrong direction and made a beautiful shawl with a big flaw.  You can not see it in this picture but the very last section of yarn to be weaved in couldn't be, so I have a double strand that just makes the whole thing wrong.  I can use this as a scarf all bunched up so no one sees my mistake, but I know it is there so I would never give this to anyone.
Hot off my loom is this lovely shawl.  It is made of my favorite yarn Cascade Eco Duo a combination of baby alpaca and wool.  Oh I wish you could feel how soft and yummy this shawl is.  I think this could be a shawl for so many purposes.
I decided to try a crochet border on this and I love it.  I think it gives the shawl a bit more stability and finishes off the edges a little bit more professionally.
The grey color of the shawl varies which creates a bit of interest and depth.  So those are finished projects number 52 and 53 for me for the year.  I am pretty sure that will be it for 2011, well unless I go crazy and finish my Noro vest or get another shawl done quickly.

My sister Claudia of Mockingbird Hill Cottage fame is opening an etsy shop.  I think I will be placing a few things in it as I really don't have time to keep my own etsy shop up and running.  I will be placing a few woven items in hers when she is ready.  I'll let you know when it is open just in case you are interested.

I hope that you are all having a great week and I promise to start getting caught up on your blogs very soon...well when I can pull myself away from my loom that is.

Those little birdies are just the cutest. I didn't know you could work a loom too. I would love to see a posting about that some time in the new year. Sounds like you had a great holiday. I can't wait to see what's in the shop.

Beautiful shawls!
A friend knit a cowl with the Eco Duo and it is yummy. Too bad about the sequin shawl but now you get to keep it - yeah!!
I look forward to Claudia's etsy shop.
Happy new year to you!!

Dear blogging friend, thank you for coming to visit me and leaving such sweet comments. We have just returned from Cleveland after 3 days and nights and wore out. I have been busy trying to catch up on laundry, mail and re-packing for we leave again on Monday (the day a terrible snow storm is expected). His appointment is was Tues. at 4:30pm but they changed it to Tues. at 7:30am, so we need to get there the night before and that threw us into traveling during a snow storm. I am beginning to think God is seriously testing us and going to change my name to JOB. It is hard to keep your cool when it becomes one thing after another. yes, I agree with you, some folks are all cheery and bubbly on their blogs. It is hard to not let the troubles of the days spill over into my blog. I never meant for that to happen and wanted a cheerful place, but I don't live in some perfect fantasy land where it is all sweet and good. I prefer to live in reality and just be honest. We take the good with the bad, and we are all human. It doesn't bother me at all if you verbalize feelings and those upside down days. It just lets me know that we all have our troubles and to quit feeling sorry for myself. We stopped for breakfast this morning on our way home. A man my husband use to work with came by our table with his wife. My husband spoke to him and he came over to our table and asked how my husband was enjoying his retirement, to which my husband said, "It hasn't been too good, we just came from 3 days at Cleveland Clinic, I had a catheter placed, I have cancer." His friend from work pointed to his chest and said, "I have one too, I have pancreatic cancer and make trips to Toledo every day for chemo and radiation." Had he walked by and not spoken we would have just assumed he was fine, and here he is fighting his own battle too. So there is no time to feel sorry for yourself when you know someone else is in the same boat. Let's hope 2012 is good to all of us, or realistically....a bit gentler and kinder to those who suffer.

Oh Mere, I do want to add that I think your shawl is lovely. One of my very favorite colors is gray and the sparkles just make it even more beautiful. Heavens, had you not mentioned the error, no one would probably have even known about it. Ohhh, those sweet little birdies. What a thoughtful friend to send you such cuties. I don't blame you one bit for keeping them out beyond Christmas, afterall the weather stays cold long after this month and next, so why not enjoy them way into the New Year.

Oh the birds are so cute! I vote for leaving them out too - are the hat and scarf removable? If so, you could make them some seasonally appropriate accessories!

I love your weaving, the close up photo of the cascade one shows such lovely detail. Beautiful.
