This Vest is Going to Kill Me......

The lovely vest I am crocheting from the winter version of Interweave Crochet may do me in.  I mean it!  The gorgeous pattern by Judith L. Swartz called Abelia Jacket caught my eye right away.  I went all over looking for the yarn and finally found something at Knit n' Knibble in Tampa.  Gosh they are so nice at that store.  So helpful and friendly.  Anyway I may have taken a short break from this sweater/vest when I went on my trip, and of course there was the dishcloth madness.
I spent my weekend in a mad crochet square craze.  I am now at the 90 square mark with 63 to go.  And I have to admit I can not make another one for a while.  They are beautiful, and the yarn is lovely, I just can't take it anymore.
Each square takes me about 21 minutes to make.  That includes attaching and sewing in the ends.  I know I am a crazy woman, (for many reasons) but timing myself sounded like fun to break up the monotony of this project.  That is 1890 minutes spent on this vest so far, 1890 minutes equals 31.5 hours.  Oh my!  And I am not even close to being done.  So I have made a deal with myself, I can have a bit of fun if I do 9 squares between fun projects.
What could be more fun than some monsters?  I have 4 great nieces and a nephew on my side and 2 great nieces on my husbands side.  I think they all need a monster don't you?  And in true Meredith fashion I have to make all of them a monster, not just make one monster.  One monster equals 9 squares on the vest, sounds simple enough.
Last Friday afternoon my youngest and I took a quick walk on Honeymoon Island in Dunedin, Fl.  Love this beach.  Usually I walk where there is beautiful sand and the view is spectacular.  But on Friday we decided to go to the north end of the beach where it is rocky and very rustic.  Much more natural.
There are far fewer people here so you can walk, and talk, and enjoy the quiet.
The clouds were rolling in for a night of thunderstorms.  They were so beautiful.

This week we may pop on down to the Clearwater Aquarium the home of Winter the famous dolphin who lost his tail.  Did you see A Dolphin's Tale?  The movie was a very fictionalized version of Winters's story.  But yes he did lose his tail because  he was caught in the rope of a crab trap, when he was a baby.  He had to have his tail amputated, and has been fit with various prosthetic tails to help him swim.  He helps disabled children and war veterans with visits every day.  It is an amazing story.  We have been several times to visit but not for a while.  I think we are due.

How was your weekend?

Hahaha, this is a fun way of calculation.

The vest is beautiful. How about the yarn, do you have enough?

The monsters are darling! I love the one with the baby in his pocket.

How nice that you can take walks by the ocean. I would love that.

Our weekend was pretty quiet. We went out for Mexican food last night, and that was fun:)

Sounds like one of those projects that you do in increments of time so you don't get too bored. Nice little take along project while waiting for an appt or at one of the kids sports events! I have not seen that movie but have heard all about it from family. Looks like a good one!~Hugs, Patti

Love your vest! But I think taking some time for monster making is a good plan. I can't wait to see what you do! I'm halfway done with Teddy #4, hope to get it done while here at the beach. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Hello!
This post really made me smile - the idea of you rewarding yourself for making squares is so funny. The vest is looking great - can't wait to see it made up - and those photos of the beach are just beautiful - you're so lucky having that on your doorstep.
Show us a monster, as soon as you've made one!

I was at Knit n' Knibble a few weeks ago. I love that shop.

I like Fiber Art in Odessa too. They had some REALLY interesting new fibers when I was there a few weeks ago.

I too take a break with my big projects and need some instant gratification in between :)

I think it is a great idea to reward/motivate yourself on the vest squares by small in between projects - and those monsters are SO CUTE! The kids will love them, I am sure!

That beach really is beautiful. Such a great way to free the mind and reward the soul.

Just think of how lovely your vest will be once you're done :-)
Love the colour combination.
Wonderful beach photos - such a gorgeous view!

Oh you make me laugh at the madness of monotony making the squares of the vest. I can identify with that, the warmer weather had my putting my hexes away (at least until the ac would be on) and next thing I know I am making huge granny squares for a friend to give her dil, so it was a relief to stop hexing and to start grannying away....I got the 25 large grannies done, now I need to tuck in all the loose ends and then 2 more border rounds and the joining....I hate weaving the ends in, I am forcing myself to do it, sheer madness with a tapestry needle and what am I thinking of but when can I start making dolls! I have a t-shirt quilt to make for my daughter after I get the hexes done. But the hexes are maddening too, so maybe I will put them up and to work on the quilt instead....computers should not be the only things with a REFRESH tab!

Wait a sec... I was just there...he-he... too bad we did have a chance to walk the beaches of Honeymoon together this year. Maybe, next year. I miss it already, but am glad to be back. It's taking me so long to get caught up though. Lots of senior stuff which I came home to.
Have fun with your blanket. It's looking great.

Your vest is going to be gorgeous! I make "deals" with myself to just to get through a project. Beautiful beach pics. Take care, Eileen

Hello. My grands have returned home, and I am playing catch up!!!
I did see Dolphin Tale. Loved it. You live very close to the beach then? The vest is going to be great, but it does look a challenge!
Today I will rest. And crochet.
Have a great day!!!

It's actually a great idea to make "deals" with yourself to get a monotonous (but beautiful!) project done. Good luck!

Your math calculations and summing up are delightful! Your monster plan sounds very rewarding, and your pre-vest and ocean photos are lovely. I have not seen the movie yet, but hope I can someday. When I was in Florida many years ago I wanted to pet a dolphin, and have been sorry since then that I wasn't able to do so. I think they are such wonderful creatures.<3

I can't believe you can finish up a square so quickly! That's amazing.

Now you're making me want to go visit Winter!

Sometimes you just need to leave something for a while hey? I love the colours of your squares, though- really striking.
But I LOVE those monsters more- what great fun they'll be to make. Everyone will want one!
Enjoy making!
