Happy Mother's Day

As a present to myself for Mother's Day I bought some new yarn.  I had a 25% off coupon for my LYS, burning a hole in my pocket.  Can you blame me? So I just popped in to see what was there and look what I found.
This Berroco Remix was purchased to make the Sawtelle sweater.  I have had my eye on this beautiful, free pattern for some time.  I was thinking of making this while watching the Olympics this year.
Some basic Ohio State colors for my son who will be leaving home to attend school the school this Fall.  I think a nice hat and scarf might help to keep him warm after those cold, morning swim practices.
This lovely skein is hand spun by a local knitter.  It was not part of my 25% off, but I loved the colors so much I couldn't help it.

Mother's Day is tomorrow.  I am a bit torn this year, just like last year as my Mother continues her slow, slow, horrible decline.  It is just so hard to watch.  I feel so sentimental about my own children getting older, and as my Mother declines, I see how precious my time with them is. I hope you find beauty on Mother's Day.  If you are a Mother, Grandmother, Aunt or a special woman in someones life, I send you a big hug.  You are the people shaping the future of our young ones.

Happy Mother's Day, treat yourself well.

Sending big M.D. hugs to you for tomorrow. On the same page with spending it with my Mom and Ray, too. Hoping the weather is nicer than today. Now, you've got me inspired to find my hook and figure out what to make during the Olympics. Great color choices. I vote for a hat.

Happy Mother's Day! I am very grateful for the time I had with my folks before they died, but their last years also were slow declines that were difficult to love them through.
I'm sending you a hug of encouragement. <3

Happy Mother's Day to you too. Good for you to treat yourself. Your son will appreciate a hat and scarf in "The" OS colors. Winters up here are usually cold, and all those Buckeyes are die hard fans. They wear the college colors proudly. My nephew went there and is a respiratory therapist. He stayed in Columbus and works in a hospital. When do the Olympics start? I guess I will be working on the "no-end-in-sight" hex blanket during that time. For someone like me who hates motifs, I sure have done my share of them in the past year. I'm so ready to move on to greener pastures.
(((HUGS))) Susanne :)

That was such a sweet thing you did for yourself! Why not get yourself something that you really wanted, right? You will turn it into something really wonderful, I am sure! So your son is going to be a Buckeye? I am from Columbus and everyone in my family is a diehard fan! Happy Mothers Day!~Hugs, Patti

Hi Meredith,
Love the yarn!! I did my last afghan in Encore Chunky and I adored that yarn!!!
I don't know what your Mom is ill with, but perhaps Alzheimers, from your post. I am so sorry to hear this.
Hugs to you on this Mothers Day. I agree with you, the Moms play such an important role!!

Happy Mother's Day to you. I don't have high expectations, but maybe someone will show up today. Anyway, I am baking my own Zuger Kirschtorte to celebrate.
It's getting lonelier when the kids are gone, the husband loves his computer and a really good good friend is missing.

Happy Mother's Day! New yarn sounds like the perfect gift. It's hard to see loved ones spin slowly out of focus, but I hope you get to spend some quality time with your family anyway.

Happy Mother's Day, Meredith! The day is bittersweet for me, too, missing my mom, seeing my kids grow up. I hope you have a day that celebrates the wonderful mom that you are!

Happy mothers day, Meredith. It's a hard time in our lives to see our children growing up and getting ready to move on at the same time as we can see the previous generation decline. Hope you can have a lovely time and some laughs with your boys, and keep up with the yarn therapy!

Meredith-
Your yarn choices are lovely-- it's the best when you get to give yourself yarn!! I can't wait to see your projects when you are finished- they will all be beautiful.

I'm so very sorry that your Mother is not well and is continuing to worsen- it is a very difficult and heart wrenching thing to watch- I do understand and have been there with both of my parents.

I will keep you and your Mother in my special prayers.

Have a wonderful day-
Love
Vicki

What a lovely post. Bittersweet but beautiful all the same. That handspun yarn perfectly matches the colors of the flowers. Very pretty! It is hard sometimes to realize how much everything changes as we grow older; even moreso when we are robbed of our health by disease. Wishing you all the best and sending hugs across the miles, Tammy

Hi lovely Meredith, Happy Mother's Day! Hope you did have a good day. I feel your sentiment on the rapid speed of time. It does go so fast. I am also in the same stage of life watching my mom too and at the same time trying to appreciate the time with our kids. It's a real mix of emotions and a growing of wisdom too.
Love your yarns!!!!!!!
