O-H-I-O

We are home from our very quick trip to Columbus, Ohio.  Boy did I have a great time seeing my son.  He swam in an inter-squad meet to get ready for the season.  He did well considering the team is way, way bigger than I thought.  He is definitely near the bottom of the barrel, but that is where he should be as a Freshman.  He is bigger, stronger, and a lot paler.  Not much sun there in Columbus.  We were greeted by Mr. 18 year old at his dorm on Friday.  We were able to get him a quick meal before he had to return to the pool.  We saw him at the meet, then he went out for pizza with us.
Saturday there was an Alumni meet which we were able to see despite the ridiculous, cold rain pouring down.  After a quick hug after the meet we went to the Ohio State/Purdue game.  Very fun, very cold and windy, and did I say cold?  I am a thin blooded Florida girl, the wind whipping around the stadium was fierce. Lucky for us the rain had stopped so we were not getting drenched, too.

We saw some beautiful Autumn colors.
We had a great time even though we left a little early and missed the best part of the game.
I finished Mr. 18 year old's scarf in the hotel room
He actually put it on so I could take his picture!  We took him to dinner and shopping for winter apparel Saturday evening.  Then it was time to see his dorm room and say good bye.  First the dorm room wasn't near as messy as I thought it was going to be.  His room mate is a bit obsessive about cleanliness.  I can guarantee you they are not well matched  but that is part of the whole experience isn't it? I shed a few tears knowing I won't see him until Thanksgiving.  But he is happy, healthy and I think doing well.  What more could you ask for?

Welcome to the midwest. Glad you had some great fall weather and got to see your young man and some color on the trees. Looks like he is doing great. Turkey day can't come soon enough, I'd bet.

Sounds like a wonderful time you had with you big son, so happy for you! But can imagine the tears o so well. Like me you sometimes miss the seasons and the wonderful colours of fall...but probably like me too, once you've experienced them a little, your done with them for quite some time right? Wind, rain, cold, brrrrr. Hugs (warm ones that is!), Floortje

Look at it this way...Thanksgiving is, by calendar, one month from yesterday...and by weeks...4 weeks from Thursday. Lucky for you, the 1st falls on a Thursday and makes the 4th Thursday of November earlier than normal! Think of all the extra time we'll have to do shopping...NOT! I see you had the opportunity to experience some fall colors as well as temps. Sounds like you had just the right dose! In...and out again! We're close to 80 here today...go figure! Your scarf looks great on Mr. 18 year old! What a fine looking young man! Love the disparity in the dorm room...that's what makes life interesting! ha ha ha Hugs to you, dear Meredith...Annette

Hi Meredith, so happy you had a nice visit. He looks so much like you. I have always seen him with his swimming cap and goggles on...he is really a handsome young man. Thanksgiving will be here before we know it and you will see him again really soon...time is flying by fast these days. I know how you must have felt at the football game. we have been having some really warm days and nights lately and the other night we had our last homecoming game for the year and what do you know....it dropped down in the low 40's that night and I didn't bring a jacket or a blanket...That wind cut like a knife it was sooo cold! Hope you have a lovely week my friend, shari!

I'm sorry you had such crummy weather while you were here. I'm sure it was wonderful to see your son regardless! He'll get good use out of that scarf before you see him again in a few weeks!

PS- Sorry to hear you left too early for the awesome comeback during overtime :( At least we won in the end!

I am so happy you made it up here for a visit with your son! Sorry the weather was nasty while you were here but after you left it sure turned nice! It is gorgeous up here right now and much warmer.
Tomorrow should be close to 80! This coming weekend though...well, lets just say...."much different" I love the scarf you made for your son! My hubby is such an Buckeye fanatic he dresses with team spirit when he is not dressed in work attire. He is always in red. I would like to see him in some other colors for a change though...lol ~Hugs, Patti

What a handsome boy you have!

Sounds like we had similar weekends --- autumn color and football. Although it was not cold at our game. We were in tee shirts until the 3rd quarter. Then I put my jacket on.

Hugs!

Dear Meredith,
My step-daughter left for college this fall and though she is not my favourite,I realize sometimes that I miss her.I have two more years with my step-son before he flies away and my heart aches when I think of that time because he is a sweatheart.
Your son looks stunning in the scarf, I am glad you had a nice visit.
You inspired me to knit garter stitch scarves for my boys too :) So as soon as I go home after finishing my work here, I will be going to knit some scarves.Thank you and have a lovely day.Gaia.

Now doesn't your son look just spiffy in his school colors and what better place and time for that new scarf. Yes, Ohio is cold in late fall and winter and he will be needing to stay warm. He will miss his nice warm Florida weather once the snow starts to buzz around. There doesn't even have to be snow, the wind alone can cut like a knife and brrrrrrrrr! So good that you got to spend time with him and Thanksgiving isn't so far in the future, it is just around the corner and Christmas is right behind that. Time flies anymore.
(((HUGS))) Susanne :)

I can see lots of red in those stands. The scarf looks great and the colors go perfect with his jacket. I'm glad he modeled it for you. And glad to hear he is doing well. Yusef got his SAT score back -- below the average, so he will definitely be taking it again. Hope you are having a great week. Tammy
