Out of Touch

Hi, my name is Meredith and I have an addiction.  That is an addiction to my computer and my blog.  Is there a 12 step program for this?  I thought I had it all under control until last Friday.  When the simple act of turning on my computer caused me great alarm.  You see the computer would not turn on correctly.  It made noise, a noise I didn't like so I manually turned it off.  I tried again, I unplugged things, and replugged things.  I had cables and cords everywhere.  Still no sign of life.  I thought it was the monitor, I messed around with it and ordered my husband out the door to buy another one.  I hooked the new one up, pressed the on switch and the same thing happened, nothing. I tried to use my iPad, but it kept going on and off with the WiFi at our house.  My son was having a conniption fit because he wasn't able to stay online and play games with his friends.    All this craziness happening at once.

Mr. 19 year old was in a meet in Ohio which I could not follow because I could never get the results.  I was Frustrated with a capital F. So yesterday my lovely computer fixer guy Andy came to my house and got us all working again.  The router was hit by something, which caused the game card to fry in the computer, so it went into emergency something or other and blah, blah blah.   All I know is that I feel very lost when I am not connected.  I really didn't know how very connected I needed to be.  It seems fine when I am on vacation to not venture near the computer, but when I am home, well Holy Cow I am beside myself if I can't log on.

So now I have to catch up on emails, work and blogs.  Boy have I missed all of you.  Hope you are all okay, I will be popping in as soon as I can.

At least I got a new fancy monitor out of the whole mess.  So now on top of my sheep/yarn/knitting/ crochet/Downton Abbey addictions, I have to add another.  I think I need help.

Oh Meridith, I am so glad you are okay! I thought you got sick again, like I did. I feel the same way about being able to connect!! It is awful if that connection goes down! So I hear ya!!!
Love the new big monitor though!!!! Hip Hip Hooray...you are back!!!

If addictions love company (like misery), I'm sure there are MANY of us out here that feel the exact same way! Technology is grand...until it isn't working properly. I giggled to hear of the added stress of one young man whose gaming was interrupted. Boy oh boy, our children can ratchet up our level of frustration very quickly, can't they? We're frustrated and we show it differently. They get frustrated and let it seep out of every pore of their being...which, in turn, sends us into a tizzy because we're already feeling the heat! Such a vicious circle. Uhm, WHATEVER did we do before computers? Geeeesh! Hugs, A.

Hey, I had a similar problem this afternoon. My computer screen became darker all of a sudden and my husband being a so called computer guy himself did something and made it worse. I was really mad but somehow he set it all right again. Hopefully it stays this way.

Since you have no problem staying off the internet during vacations, perhaps you need to take more vacations to combat this addiction! Medicinal Hawaii, anyone?

I think we all have that addiction, at least the ones that admit to it. Glad you got it fixed and life was restored to normal! lol Columbus got hit with about 5-6 inches of snow but an hour east we hardly got anything. I thought I would have a nice snowed in the house day..but no....hoping it is the last snow of the season? ~Hugs, Patti

I thought you'd been quiet lately, but was hoping it was for more entertaining reasons, like a little vacation trip or something.

I can tell you though, you're not the only one who is addicted!

So you're still faithful to Downton Abbey? Some people swore off it after the last episode.... ;)

So glad you're back online! It's hard when we lose touch with our friends, whether virtual or tangible. I always feel a bit guilty if I haven't been reading everyone's posts and leaving a comment. (Very silly of me but there it is.)

Enjoy your new monitor!

P.S. I still love D.A. too. :)

I had the same thing happen on my home computer and I do everything on that thing and I have a ton of patterns on it. So my son has it and has had it now for a few weeks so I can only use my laptop, I miss the other computer hope to get it back soon.

Understand completely....let anything remotely go haywire with my pc and I am in a tizzy. My hubby use to say I spent way too much time on here. Of course now it doesn't matter how much time I spend on here cause no one is here to get onto me. I hate having to unhook the tower and drag the thing to my computer guy. It wouldn't be so bad if one didn't have to get down on the floor to take everything loose. I have satellite hookup, no WiFi out here in the dead zone. Use to have dial up and that was a joke, so sloooooooooooooowwwwwwww!
(((HUGS))) Susanne :)

Glad all is well. We all have the computer addiction. I feel so disconnected with the world when I can't get online. How the world has changed! Glad you are back, although I have been MIA for a few days too. Sometimes I just have nothing to say. NO crocheting going on here either.

I am glad they got you back up and running. I am with you, I really do need to be connected.

Oh, so you love Downton Abbey, too. I did not think I'd like it at first, but I adore it. I love the witty lines. There is going to be a special Downton Abbey knits magazine coming out in the summer from Interweave press...I'll give ya more info as I find out. We've gotta spread the Downton Abbey love.

Hope Mr. 19 won, and that your other son is back up and running, too.

Yay on the new monitor.

It's good to see you back on line dear friend.

Blessings always

My sympathies. Our phone and broadband often disappears for days at a time. Couple of weeks ago it was down for about 5 days! No apology from BT, just "exchange problems". Still, it does force you to read books/ spring clean/ chat to hubby :) xx

I left a comment, but I think it went "somewhere"!

I missed you and I'm really glad you're back. Isn't it amazing how much we miss this internet thing when it's not available? It happened to me for two days last summer and I was lost. No cell phone and no internet. Contractors had cut the cable thingy during construction.

Have a wonderful weekend! I'm off to Portland again tomorrow to lunch with Gracie, Taci & Teresa. We'll be thinking of you.

Blessings,
Betsy

Hmmm, this all sounds a little bit too familiar.....do I need to be worried about this addiction.....seems I'm not alone.
Glad you're back online Meredith, very frustrating when things aren't working the way we want them too.

Well there you are! I was starting to worry a little, I guess we really don't realize how untouched we get from daily things that we love so much when it's not working! So glad you are back "on line"

So nice to hear from you! I was a little worried about you. We had a similiar alarm at our house and it's no fun feeling disconnected. So happy you are back! Catch up and look forward to hearing about your projects and life!

Bloggers Anonymous ... you could be starting something big!

Scary isn't it, that moment of panic when you discover you can't get your fix, I mean can't get online ;)

Tammy@T's Daily Treasures said...

I am glad it was something easily fixed. I do like being able to get online whenever I want. But like you, when I am on vacation, I don't even think about it and don't miss it at all. I'd get a lot more house cleaning done if I wouldn't sit here blogging. But then again, I don't like cleaning house. :) Best wishes, Tammy

I missed you. Glad you are connected again. I have the same addiction. :-)

I know exactly how you feel! I am the same! Even when I've read everything there is to read, I still can't turn the computer off (even worse, I have it sitting next to me on the lounge, where I knit and crochet).
