Yarn Alive

Have you heard about Yarn Alive?  Well I hadn't until my dear friend Stitchy Mc Floss, wrote a post about it today, she included this link on her blog.  I love Stitchy so I read everything she posts, and ladies (and gentleman) this is something you need to read.

I am all about loving yarn and understanding how yarn can weave it's magic powers to help heal those who need it. I have said many, many times that yarn saves my life.  It helps me access my creative side, all while calming me down so I can function in my very crazy life. After I read the article, and checked out the Yarn Alive blog, and saw all of those beautiful women sharing and coming together to heal and move on with their lives, I had to get moving.  I jumped up from my computer and packed a box full of yarn to send.

For most of us who knit and crochet, we are all blessed with an abundance of yarn.  Think about sending some of your beautiful yarn to help these lovely ladies.  I am not talking about bits and bobs of yarn, rather full skeins of yarn you can part with.  Maybe you were gifted yarn you really don't need?  Maybe you have skeins of yarn left over from a project?  Or maybe, like me, you had to buy yarn and then it has been sitting in a container unused for a while. Send it on its way to help those who need it.

Check out your stash, pack up your loved but not used yarn, and mail it to this address, before the next shipment leaves for Japan in August.

Oh you make me blush with you kind words dear friend. :)

Yay! More yarn headed to Japan. I loved reading that blog, I read all the back posts. They have so little and to see the joy on their faces from getting yarn (just like all our own faces when we get yarn) it made me want to do something, too.

I love that even though they don't have much, when they get yarn, they are making things for others...so heart warming.

Blessings to you always dear friend.

Mere, Mere, Mere!

You didn't waste any time did you? I commented on Stitchy McFloss's blog about my own trip to Japan with 3000 hand-knitted and crocheted items from crafters all over the world two years ago. My son, (who lives in Japan), and I passed the items out to people in the shelters who had lost everything including most of their families. Alex used to live in the area but his job disappeared with the tsunami and now he works in Tokyo. He misses his friends and the rural areas very much though.

This is a VERY worthy cause and I'm so happy to learn of it.

Thank you for helping Meredith!

Blessings,
Betsy

Thanks Mere - will head right over to Vicki's and read all about it. Lord knows I have more yarn than I need.

(Did I just say that?!?)

Hi Meredith, I will see what I can find in my "hoarders" room. I am wondering why we don't send it directly to Seattle? I love the idea of helping them with materials! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

What a wonderful cause! Thanks for bringing it to our attention! I loved the article. They knit for others. How wonderful is that! They could keep their knitting themselves, but they think of others first.

I love when women are able to come together and overcome through crafting with yarn. Very inspiring! Best wishes, Tammy

That sounds wonderful.
I've made a note of the address and am going to raid my stash for those unused skeins that are gathering dust...
Wishing you a wonderful week

What a fabulous project, I shall definitely look out some yarn to send! Although half of mine is in my mother's freezer at the moment ... I found a dead moth in my yarn cupboard, eugh!

This sounds like a great cause and I will keep it in mind. Right now I can't turn loose of any of my yarn, in fact a friend in Fort Myers is sending me a box of her extra yarn so I don't have to buy any more to make my mom her African Flower blanket. Once that is done I will see what I can spare and hopefully the donations will still be accepted.
