Tired Tuesday, blogging and a lovely gift

I am tired today, plain and simply tired.  I worked long hours yesterday and throw in an Open House for my son's school, that has put me over the edge of tired,  I guess that makes me closer to exhausted.  So today after a couple of early patients, a grocery store run, cleaning up around home and making spaghetti sauce for dinner I am going to catch my breath. Blogging does that for me.  It makes me sit still, calm down and write.  It calms me when I can grab a few minutes with all of you, sharing your life and your creativity.  So thank you for writing your wonderful blogs and coming to visit me at my little space in the blog world.

In this day and age where we are so tuned into each other through every means possible, Twitter, Instagram, Blogs, Facebook, Google +, and every other social media outlet, I love my little blog more and more.  I know many of you have taken the plunge to faster social media sites, and if that is your thing that is great, for me I am staying right here.  I am old fashioned, I like things to stay the same.  I do not Tweet, or take pictures of my life and post them here and there and everywhere.   I have a Facebook page purely so I could check on my sons posts when he was younger.  I rarely post, and I rarely read anything on Facebook.  I know I miss a lot of what is going on, but most of what I miss I think I am better off not knowing.  If you are a friend or family member, I would rather have an phone call or and email from you telling me your news.

I am old fashioned and stubborn apparently.  I think life moves so fast, so much faster than when I was young.  I worry that kids growing up are not going to be able to talk on the phone and have a real conversation.  I think they can't sit at a stop light, an appointment or even a special event without being connected constantly to their phones. I worry that the more connected we become, the more disconnected we are.

That is why I like blogging.  I think that it is the perfect mix of old and new for me.  I get to check on you and your life, and you get to check on me.  We write words, sometimes many of them, and in those words are thoughts, feelings, hopes and fears.  There is a conversation, just like we were sitting together having a cup of tea and chatting about life.  There is creativity and that never ceases to amaze me.  You my friends are such an inspiration to me.  You garden, cook, crochet, knit, sew, cross stitch and make beautiful things for your homes.  You share where you live and show me places I have never heard of, but now desperately want to travel to.  I love this interaction we have.  I can't thank you enough for continuing to feel your blog is important, and taking the time to write, especially when there are so much faster means of connecting out there.

I have said it a million times before, bloggers are amazing.  And I have a special blogging friend I have to thank for a very special gift.  I know I have mentioned my friend Deb before, but if you are new to this blog allow me to introduce you, blogger friends this is Deb from Posted From Home.  Deb has an absolutely wonderful blog filled with such beauty. Her blog starts off with these words, "Home is where your story begins...."  You can tell right from the start that you have found yourself a special place to visit.  Deb is an incredible artist and Mother.   You can visit with Archer her beautiful and kind Labrador, and see the beauty of nature all around Deb's blog.  Recently Deb made beautiful and unique Prayer Flags, and she had a giveaway.  Well I did not win the giveaway but Deb sent me one anyway, a very special one she created just for me.  Come and take a peek.

It came in this wonderful wrapping, sheet music and a hand painted card with a little nest on it.  You  are so talented Deb.

This what was inside the creative packaging.

A lovely and thoughtful Prayer Flag just for me.  I love the thought and inspiration....Dream!

The card hanging from the flag says, "If you reveal your secrets to the wind, you should not blame the wind for revealing them to the trees."  from Kahil Gibran.

I hung it right up in my craft studio, right on the wall, front and center so I can see it all the time.  Looks to me I need to have a bit a tidying session here soon.

Deb you are so thoughtful and I can not tell you how much your gift means to me.  When I opened it last night I was just so thrilled.  Your kindness is amazing Deb, and the gift is just tremendous.

Do you see what I mean by blogging friends being the best?  They take the time to share just because.  They take the time to make you something so special, just because.  They share their lives and their talents, and sometimes you get a lovely surprise present just because.

Please hop over and say Hi to  Deb and Archer, you will be so happy you did.

I agree, blogging is so much more satisfying than Facebook or Twitter.

I love the feeling of getting to know people, how else would we have got to know each other?
I love your gift, it is beautiful. I'm off to check out your friends blog now!

Get some well earned rest, you deserve it.

Dear Mere! Once again you have put into words exactly what I feel - about blogging, other forms of social media, the pace of life, and the wonderful bonds between bloggers.

Sometimes (especially lately) I feel that I haven't much to say and nothing to show, so I don't post anything. But your words have encouraged me to try and post a little more often. After all, it's not a contest - it's a conversation. :)

Thanks for a great post!

What a very lovely gift from Deb.

Let me send you a virtual plum - there! What a lovely gift - I have seen something similar before in a local craft shop but to think that someone has made it just for you makes it extra special. Have a glorious night's sleep and wake up feeling just that bit more refreshed x Jane

Love this post! I must be old fashioned too...I don't have a Facebook page, an Instagram or Twitter. Actually I diid have a Twitter, for about 5minutes a couple of years ago just long enough to get a Pinterest account and then I cancelled it! Back then you could only sign up if you had a Facebook or Twitter ! I love my blog and reading others, it's relaxing, like reading a favorite magazine. :)

What a lovely gift. Deb is a good friend. I will definitely say hi to her. I agree with everything you wrote about blogging because that's how I feel too. This feels like a peek into others' lives, sometimes good and sometimes not-so-good, but you feel like you can lend support either way. I didn't know blogs like this existed until a couple of years ago; I thought blogging was only for ranting and complaining about life. I was so pleasantly surprised to learn otherwise. I hope you get a good night's sleep tonight. I need one too; last night I had one of those dreams where something is crawling on you and then you wake up and can't stop feeling the crawling long enough to go back to sleep. Silly! Yawn. :)

I'm so with you on that one. Learning how to upload photos onto my blog from my iPad was about as much as I could manage. Not sure I'd have time for anything else either as my only free time is when I've got Coco baby to sleep. Have to admitt though I have been dabbling with Pinterest lately......

Dear Meredith, your prayer flag is amazing. I have never seen anything like it before but what a lovely idea for a gift.
I love anything hand made as I feel it had come from the heart.
I'm sorry you as so drained, but you're right in that even if you only have time to read some blogs at least it gives you a few moments wind own time.
I hope the rest of the week is not so full on and hectic

Hugs to you

I have to admit I do go on Facebook, but only because I have a ton of school chums that I graduated with, also my kids and family are on there. I do a lot of recipe sharing only because in order to keep them on my home page I have to "share" them. I have never made any of the recipes, mainly for lack of time. I also share spiritual things. I play Candy Crush and I do like Scrabble and the other word games. Do you think I can find 1 Scrabble player??? I signed up for Twitter and found it rather too much. I am not going to post my blog on Facebook. Like you, I would rather keep it just the way it is. I don't even like changing things on the actual blog page. I always seem to get myself into trouble when I do that because I end up messing it up and then have to deal with those headaches. I do not text on my cell phone nor do I send pics from it cause I never use the camera feature. I refuse to pay extra just to sit and wear my thumbs out, lol. Your surprise gift was such a nice gesture. I love the little saying on it. I think you put it in the perfect place. I have really been thinking a lot about digging out my counted cross stitch stuff or doing some embroidery with quotes or Bible verses. There is so many things I want to do and never enough time to do much of anything. Like you, I am thankful for my blogger friends. If it wouldn't be for all of you I would never get to see much of anything.
(((HUGS))) Susanne :)

I agree. And, I'm so sad that some of my favorite bloggers are no longer blogging. :-(

I may be making some changes in my blogging soon --- haven't TOTALLY made up my mind. But, I will be sure to keep you in the loop.

I like the way things are too. Facebook is a important for me to see my granddaughters that live so far away - and I see high school chums and a LOT of cousins, nieces and nephews and their kids. I don't get Twitter, although I have an account. But my blog is my virtual journal where I share my most important things. And the best part of the blog is the friends I've made.. like YOU, you darling girl. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Dear sweet Meredith - I love this post - your words speak volumes to me and to reply fully would require me to write a book - no I won't do that - but I must say that I feel the same about blogging and lovely blogging friends and the very special caring and sharing that takes place among us.
I have a Facebook page but its quite private among a few family members and I rarely post anything anyway! In fact I've been tempted many times to close it and that will happen one of these day no doubt!
I like 'old-fashioned' - me too - and also feel concern about the up and coming generation and their ability to communicate openly and normally without the aid of such technology.
I love the beautiful prayer flag that Deb so kindly created for you and I'm going to pop in and say hello to her for she's obviously a lovely person. I also noticed the George Formby music sheet - what a lovely touch!
I am so sorry to hear of your tiredness and hope you soon feel rested and refreshed.
Loving blessings and hugs to you my lovely friend!
Joy xo

Sweet dreams! It's a lovely gift, wow!

By the way, you are welcome at my house anytime. If you feel like travelling to Switzerland, you'd better stay at my house than in a hotel. And you'd better drink your tea and coffee at my house too. You wouldn't belive how expensive a cup of coffee in a restaurant is. I would pick you up at the airport just to prevent you from a cup of coffee there. .... :-)

What a beautiful post. I, too, worry about the disconnect that young people and now older people are having in the world today. Everything is instant gratification. So sad. I do facebook because I live so far from all of my family that it's a way to keep in touch with photos, etc. I've also found 4 girls that I went to school K-12 with. That was such fun and we've even been able to get together when I've been back home.
Thank you for the thoughtful words today. You have been a blessing in my life and many others.
Blessings,
Betsy

Hello Meredith.

Your Prayer Flag is very beautiful indeed and you have found the perfect spot for it.

Like you the place I find comfort is in chatting with my blogging friends. I do not twitter, and I had a face book account for 2 weeks only. Like you I would have friend email me for visit me at my blog. NO facebook for me either.

It is so nice to find a Kindred Spirit like you Meredith. I hope you are feeling more rested. Hugs Judy

Such a great post, so beautifully put. I agree with all you say about blogging, it is the only social media I 'do '. I don't do Instagram, Facebook or Twiiter but I really enjoy blogging and reading the blogs of others.
The prayer flag is beautiful.

This was a great post. I am on a few other social sites, but it always fascinated me how little they overlap. My YouTube followers or FB friends don't read my blog, my blog followers don't follow me on Instagram, etc.
My blog writing has been very sporadic lately...because of my schedule and also because I just haven't been sure what I want the blog to be or whether I had anything meaningful to contribute. But I've been looking at how I can manage my time better and find ways to make blogging a more regular part of it, even if it is more meandering, at least it will be a better reflection of me, and be something I can look back on to see where my family and I are at certain points in life.

I also loved the prayer flag, so lovely! And I had to write the quote down - it was great! I hope the tiredness is easing up a bit...if not, I'm sure Max would be up for a cuddle and a nap anytime. :)

I tweet, facebook and instagram, all as knitsofacto rather than as me, but the only thing I would be loathe to give up tomorrow is blogging. Like you, I am just really happy not to be the only one who feels this way!

Oh, and that is one special prayer flag!

I agree, I think about how technology has made some people shallow and interested in attaining the latest and greatest. I use instagram because I love taking photos. Like you, blogging is my favorite. Don't worry, being old fashioned is actually refreshing, lol.
