I Love Yarn Day

Happy I Love Yarn Day.  Yes, October 11 is I Love Yarn Day, and I really do love yarn.  Someday I will get all poetic and serious with you about my love of yarn, but today I am showing you some finished yarny projects.  What better way to celebrate?

Sweet little Mary Jane's sized to fit a 3-6 month old little girl.

This Malabrigio yarn was used to make the crochet boarder on the Keila Top I made a while back  That was a fun project to make and I had just enough yarn left over to make these cute baby gifts. I had these buttons left over from a baby sweater I made ages ago, so a lovely little gift for no cost at all. Hooray!

The little crochet hat is a pattern made by my friend Olga at Lacy Crochet, this is called the Lacy Shells Baby Hat, she also made a baby blanket is this pattern.  Olga makes amazing crochet projects that you will love, pop in and visit her, but have a cup of tea with you as you will be browsing and reading for a long time.

My Friend Lynda has a birthday this month, she loves cowls as she lives in a drafty house in North Carolina.  It gets chilly in the winter and she loves to have something around her neck, but nothing she has to mess with like a scarf or shawl.  So for her present  this years she is getting two cowls, I hope she likes them.  This one was made with Malabrigio Rios in Archangel.

Simply chain a chain long enough to fit comfortably around your neck, join carefully.  The pattern is double crochet, chain one.  Repeat this simple pattern skipping every other stitch and join at the end of the round.  On the next round, double crochet in the chain one space from the previous round, and chain one to skip over the double crochet of the previous round.  Each cowl took approximately 200 yards of yarn, I used a size J hook.  Easy peasy.

Number two is made from Malabrigio Rios Purpuras.  If you have read this blog for any amount of time you know Malabrigio is my favorite yarn, I love the softness, the quality of the yarn and the colors, oh my!

I have been stash busting a lot lately, all of these projects have been from my stash and the four Elise Shawls I have recently made have all been stash busted.  My fiend Linda at Linda's Crafty Corner has a stash-buster challenge you can join, so for the first time this year I am linking up.  I have stash busted quite a bit this year, and have really tried to shop my stash first lately.  The the stash is getting smaller, but it was never really out of control, well not in my eyes anyway!

Still there are times that you just don't have the right yarn for a project and you need to make a purchase.  I am guilty of that too this week. So in honor of I Love Yarn Day, I present more Malabrigio goodness.  Malabrigio Rasitia purchased for some more Elise shawls for Christmas presents.

I ordered two different colors and really just want to sit and gaze at them all day long.   Ordered from East.Sleep.Knit, my favorite place for online yarn shopping.  I got another yarn lottery card and won $5 off my next purchase, hooray.

This Squoosh yarn was my winning lottery yarn from the last time I ordered, free yarn in the mail who can beat that?  I love it, soft and squooshy.

So happy I Love Yarn Day.  Hope you get a chance to play with some yarn today.

Oh my, my ...such pretty cowls. Linda is a very lucky lady.

I just love all of your projects. They will be so appreciated. The cowls are awesome; I was just thinking (this morning, in fact) about making one for myself and wondering how exactly to do it. I was thinking about doing the same stitch pattern so I'm glad to see how nicely yours turned out. Thank you for sharing. I hope you have a great weekend. :)

I love how you reasoned out that the yarn for those sweet gifts was free! Hee-hee. Your friend should be thrilled when she gets her cowls. They are both great. What pretty yarn you got. I don't think I've ever used any Malabrigio yarn. Still haven't bought any Madelinetosh either, although I told hubby that's what I want for my b-day or anniversary gift. Have fun staring at your new yarn. It's gorgeous!

Oh my, I love that dark blue, purple looking yarn. What a lovely shawl that will make.

I'm always so amazed at how fast you make things, Meredith. I am such a slow poke with my crochet. I enjoy it, but my right arm tires out pretty quickly.

All of your work is lovely, as always.

I love yarn too...and it would take me months to use up all my stash. Your projects are so pretty. You have a knack for using the prettiest yarns. I can't seem to get past the old stand by stuff. I do have some sport weight yarn that I am contemplating on using. I just need to get the second and third Elise shawls done first. I do love that pattern. I can see why you love it too. It is easy once you get started and the pattern is a snap. The finished shawl is lacy and light weight. I plan to make 3 and give them to 3 of my sil. I might make one for me too, lol

I did get to knit on our way to kayaking on little Lake como. The last skien you show is sooooooo cool. Not purple, not black, not grey. I LOVE it.

Happy yarn day to you too. I destashed this week; sending many half skeins to my church knit coordinator for shawls. She was thrilled and I feel 10 lbs lighter.

I made a cowl using that pattern, but in fingering weight yarn. I love it! Such a simple pattern but looks so good.
