Red

As I took the photos for this post today I realized they all have something in common, red.  Red is the color of the season.  Red is bold. and brilliant.  It represents danger, anger and blood, but it also represents love and happiness.  Think of a beautiful ripe strawberry, or a brilliant red rose or heart.  I love red but have to say I do not wear it much.  I am more of a gray person, more neutral not, as extreme or bold as the color red.  However I have a lot of red in my house, red rugs, red cushions and I drive a red car so maybe I am bolder than I think I am.

Red in combination with green, it's polar opposite on the color wheel, represents Christmas.  Red and green are evident everywhere right now.  I love green, the color of trees, leaves and grass.  I think green helps red become more balanced, less flashy if you know what I mean.  Here is some red and green or you.

Red holly berries against a brilliant blue sky.

Notice the difference of the red berries against the sky, they don't pop out near as much as the red berries against the green leaves.

Red poinsettia's with beautiful green leaves blooming in my garden.  This was a gift  I received for Christmas last year, it has survived the hot, Florida sun.

Two red Ohio State scarves framed against a green background.  They are ready to be wrapped up and opened on Christmas morning.

The red scarf on the left is made from Lion Brand Wool-Ease made for my son's friend who will be staying with us over the Holiday's.  The scarf on the right is from Gignasco Tyrol yarn, made for Mr. 20 year old.  Super quick projects that will hopefully keep two young men warm this winter in Ohio.

Max even wears a red collar, a Christmas gift from his oldest brother last year, an Ohio State Buckeye collar that is.

Hope the red you see today is filled with love and Christmas Spirit.

I love red too! Amazing that you can grow poinsettias in the garden where you are - here in the uk they are very much and indoor, keep-in-the-warm plant.

I so enjoyed this post - and I'm glad that Max is sporting the color of the season as well!

One year I knit a friend if mine who is of Chinese descent a red scarf, and she was thrilled, saying it was the color of celebration to the Chinese, as well as the color of many wedding dresses.

Red is my favourite colour. I have lots of red things around me, and I often wear red clothes :-)

My beloved Fiat Panda was also red (now I have a blue car). I really love red together with green. Does this mean Christmas is my favourite time of the year?

I love red too - especially with green - and its darker and lighter shades as well (burgundy, rose).

Those scarves look so toasty - I am sure they will be much appreciated! :)

I love red too Meredith and I do have lots of red in my wardrobe, I think it brightens up your face and makes you look and feel happy. Those scarves will be well appreciated I'm sure. Enjoy the rest of your week. :)

There are some beautiful hues of red in nature this time of year. I love the warmth of it, especially used in accents around the home. Your photos capture the power of red perfectly. Those scarves are lovely gifts, that will be gratefully received I'm sure. Best wishes Meredith xx

Great photos in this post. I love the poinsettia, especially. I'd never seen one actually growing in the ground before seeing your photo!

I loved seeing red your way, Meredith :) [ A friend had a red and green wallpaper that I can't describe accurately, but my mind has fixated on it as being "perfect" for over 40 years! ] The scarves will surely help your young men stay warm...and be stylish as well! Thanks for posting :)

Finally catching up after a wonderful and busy week. This is too funny Meredith! My husband is a 3rd generation Buckeye!! Even though we live in Atlanta and I'm Floridian (neither Southern nor Northern) he has season tickets and we make it up for the Michigan Games over Thanksgiving. Buckeyes are very traditional!!
BTW- nice scarves!!
BTW again- I'm wearing my orange, green, tan, red leaves scarf :-}}}

A lovely bright - and red - post Meredith, and I've really enjoyed reading it and contemplating your beautiful pics, thank you. The scarves are looking wonderful with all their fringing and I'm sure they will make two lads very happy and warm. Big hugs for Max boy as well as yourself! Joy xoxo
PS Your poinsettia is looking gorgeous and very healthy - it must like living at your place, and why wouldn't it, I think I would too. x

Lovely photos, the scarves look great, lucky boys. I love red cyclamen against evergreen plants, they always catch my eye.

I wear red a LOT. My car is grey.

Guess that makes us opposites.

Steve wears grey often. His car is red. You two have a lot in common.

The scarves turned out great for the young men. I'm sure they will appreciate them on a cold and snowy Ohio day.

Red is one of my favorite colors for Christmas also but not one I wear very much but for some reason I am thinking more of White....maybe I am hoping it will snow down here. Love the scarves. I know those guys are going to love them!

My very favorite color has always been blue, but red is next in line. It is a bold color is it not, it makes a statement "LOOK AT ME!" That could be why STOP signs and traffic lights have red. Hummingbirds love red. I sat on the back porch a few years back and had a red hat on, one came up to me and buzzed back and forth like it was trying to figure out just what kind of flower I was, lol. The scarves turned out well, and they will be used on those extremely cold Ohio days. The guys should like them. Your poinsettia is pretty. I don't know if they would survive around here in the summer, maybe, but I sure know they would have to come in before the frost. I know the things are poisonous and that is bad around little children who like to eat everything. I think God knew what he was doing when he made the sky blue, the grass green and added so many earth tones in between. He must have know that those colors would be pleasing to the eye, I never get tired of looking at any of those things.

I love this red post! Red and pink are my favorite colors. I wear a lot of red clothing, lipstick, nail polish....red and white kitchen...I LOVE RED! You would be beautiful in red. Buy yourself a red sweater for the holidays :)
Love,
Danette
P.S. I love it that you show Max all the time. I adore him!

Hi Meredith! What fun all the red is! Do you have holly down there! I have 2 huge holly trees on the side of the front yard that are about 50 feet tall. I need to cut some for the holidays. Good job on the two scarves! I have always loved red, it's such an exciting color! Have fun..

I love red too! And, my dog also has a red collar. :-) I have a lot of red in my house and have been liking it so much it's become a main color.

Hi Meredith!
I know a lot of people said the red and green of Christmas decorating is out of date, but I still love it, much more than the new decorating colors. You did a beautiful job on the scarves and I'm sure your son and his friend will be very grateful for them when they return to Ohio after the holidays.
Blessings,
Betsy

I always hated red, I think because red and grey were the colours of my school uniform. And I am a black person, I tend to wear a lot of black or navy blue, my wardrobe consists of a lot of black.
But..... A couple of years ago I saw a gorgeous red 3/4 length Mac and I fell in love with it. It now shares room with my black wardrobe and I always feel happy when wearing it.

I am a fellow red lover. There's lots of it in this house and I love wearing red, though come to think of it, I haven't worn it much lately. Just gray sweatshirts!
Love you. And I love my Maxie.

I avoided red in my home for many years, for some reason, although I have touches of it now. As for cars, I've had little red ones and find my current silver one a bit drab.

The scarves are lovely and I hope the recipients enjoy wearing them.

I love reading your blog, but I'm so sorry your sons (people and fur) have to wear that nasty red and grey. I'm sure they would be much happier wearing maize and blue!! (Had to get a dig in there, sorry!!)

I occasionally wear red, I don't feel I'm especially bold but I bought a beautiful red dress last Winter and it's my favourite dressy-up dress. For those of us not quite 'bold' enough red can be an accent colour with your neutral clothes. A bit of red jewellery or a scarf for example.
I love your posts about colour, they make me think about colour a lot more than I used to.
The scarves are looking very warm and cosy x

My favourite colour! Although I don't wear it much either, except as an accessory usually (almost always use a red handbag!)
My husband is not as keen on it, so there isn't that much red in our house either. Except for our formal lounge room which is painted red!
