Random thoughts on a Thursday

Another busy week has almost sucked me under.  I am feeling a bit disorganized, a bit disheveled and disoriented.  Are you sick of me being like this lately?  It might help if I can get a bit of this randomness off my mind.  Do you mind if I do?

I walked around outside for a bit today, searching for a flower to take a picture of.   My garden is tired, tired of the heat, tired of the humidity and tired of the lack of rain.  It is green, or just plain dead, so no pictures of my garden today.  I am frankly also tired of the heat and humidity, but we are weeks away from a change in the weather here.  Lucky for me we are off for a quick 48 hour trip to Minnesota tomorrow, for a nephews wedding.  Please let it be cooler there than it is here!

This boy is going to be very upset when he sees those suitcases come out.  He is staying home with my Teenager, the two of them will  keep each other company.  My Teenager is thrilled to have about 48 hours at home all by himself.  I would be, too!

Busy weeks lead to very little knitting time.  Three of these fun dishcloths have been finished with about a thousand more to go.  They are easy, peasy.  You can find the pattern for it here.

As I knit these up I wonder what would happen if you just kept knitting, and knitting, and knitting.  I bet you would have a beautiful, ruffled scarf in the end.  You could make it a bit narrower so it would not be so wide.  Maybe I will try it after I finish all the cloths I need for presents.

A pretty basket full of yarn, what could be nicer?

I have been thinking for sometime that I need to fix my blog list on the left side of my blog.  Seems to me many blogs I love to read are not on it.  I forget what is on it and what isn't.  I have occasionally put blogs on the list and the just seem to disappear. If you would like to be featured on my blog list and you are not already, please let me know with a comment.  I will pop you on as soon as I can.  I know lots of blogs are streamlined now, less clutter and all of that.  Many of them have dropped their blog list and I just think that is a shame.  I am honored when I am reading a blog and see my little ole blog listed on their reading list.  I hope you will be honored to be on mine, too.  Blog lists are also a great way to find new blogs that might be of interest.

I talked to Mr 20 today as he walked home from class and I was in the grocery store.  Gosh I miss that boy.  I love to hear his voice even if he is telling me he lost his credit card........

I am off to public preschool, open house tonight for Little Buddy.  What are your bets I am the oldest Mom there?  Last week while dropping him off I ran into a young man dropping off his son, he had tattoos all over his arms, spreaders in his earlobes, pants hanging off his behind and a hat on all crooked.  I am not judging him at all, I just feel we might be of significantly different generations, don't you?  I had to have a chuckle about it all.  I believe many people might just think we are Little Buddies grandparents.  Oh well he does not seem to notice we are older..........yet.

Remember to check out Vicki's post about her charitable program in Africa.

My Max deserves one last look don't you think?  He doesn't know his parent are older either!

Have a great weekend.

I have periods of being sucked under too, you have articulated it very well. Plenty of cool rain over here, I shall send some your way immediately. It feels like it's practically autumn some of the time. No-one is quite ready for summer to end yet though. I'm glad you got to speak to Mr 20, even though it wasn't for the best of reasons. I do hope you guys all have a good weekend. CJ xx

If I am not on your blog roll, I would like to be. I'm reading on a mobile device right now and it doesn't show the sidebar stuff.

Have fun at the wedding!

Hi my dear friend.. you can talk to us about anything you want to.. that is what friendship is all about. Sharing things. Max is so sweet looking. Will you pet him for me?

I'm with you on the blog listings - I try to take care of mine like a potted plant - if a blog doesn't post in 4 or 5 months.. I remove them. If a fellow blogger doesn't have me on their list.. I usually don't add them. If a blogger removes their blog list.. I take their link off my list. It's all about helping each other, I think. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Blogging random thoughts can be very therapeutic. A weekend getaway might be just the thing to get you back on track. I love the pictures of Max! You're right that he probably doesn't notice your age. Enjoy the wedding! :-)

Love your random thoughts today Meredith. Hope it helped to write them all down. I laughed out loud at your description of the younger Dad. I feel like that often myself. I sometimes feel very old. Is 54 old? :-). I always feel a little thrill when I see my blog on someone's list. It makes me feel as if what I write may be worth reading after all. Have a safe, ( and fun) trip.
Blessings,
Betsy

I'm sorry you aren't feeling yourself but it is really understandable or you wouldn't be human. You have been through a lot in the recent past and you've coped remarkably.

I certainly can empathize as in many ways I've been through so much too and have been feeling rather tired.

The heat and humidity certainly don't help and I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one tired of it. Sometimes misery loves company, lol. It really has been much more hot and humid on the west coast than we are used to and it seems to get more like this every year. My garden is fried like yours despite my watering.

I hope all goes well and is cool where you are going. I'm sure Buddy won't notice your age. He just needs to be loved and happy and you and your family are going to give it to him in spades :-)

Sounds like a weekend away will do you some good, hope you are feeling more like your self soon. Age is no barrier to loving a child, Little Buddy is surrounded with love and that is all that matters. Max is adorable...

Great pictures of Max! He reminds me so much of my Tiffy! Congratuations to your nephew. The colors in that basket are beautiful. Color is such a mood changer. I hope you feel better and not overwhelmed soon. If I did everything that you do in a day I would be hollering... Please stop the merry go round and let me off!

Hello Meredith,

It seems to me that going on a short trip is a good thing for you right now, it will give you a breather, a little break and new impressions. Usually things get a bit clearer after a break!

It's lovely that you had contact with your oldest son, one of my daughters phoned me out of the blue yesterday and it's so nice to hear their voice when you can't see them everyday anymore. But that is life!

As for your parenting age, I should not even worry about that, little Buddy gets a lot of love and all your experience, not to mention older brothers - which means he also benefits from more attention!

Max will be so happy when you get back, think about that. He is a dear and loyal dog, I'm sure.

Those dishclothes look so nice, I love their colours and the swirly shape!!!

Last, not least, thanks for always popping by and saying hello with a little comment! I feel like I'm gaining new friends!

Have a great trip!!!
Love, Ingrid xx

The pattern for the pretty dishcloths has been added to my faves list on Ravelry. Your idea of using them in a different way certainly has me intrigued and I look forward to how you get on with that.
Your description of the humidity and heat sounds suffocating no wonder you're not yourself at the moment.
Enjoy your weekend away and I hope for a fresher climate for you so you can rejuvenate xx

Oh dear, there must be something in the air, I am feeling a bit disorganised, dishevelled and disoriented, too. I am glad it is not just me :). Take a deep breath and keep knitting! I just put the fire on because there is the first autumn storm raging outside and it feels appropriate to have a fire. I hope it cools down a bit for you, too. I love blog rolls, and I get giddy with excitement when I see my own blog on someone else's list. I have found so many blogs I love (including yours) via blog rolls, it is a shame some bloggers don't have them. There is mums and dads of all ages at our school, near teenagers to women and men my age and much older, too. It is nice to have so much different parenting experience in one single school, lets embrace diversity! Have a lovely weekend, I hope you can recharge your batteries for the next week. Cx

Bonjour Mereknits!
Read your blog always gives me a smile and sometime I laugh like today. I'm sure that your are one of the oldest parent at the school but the most "proud" In French we said "le coeur n'a pas d'âge" also for parenthood. Lovely picture of Max.

Hi My dear Meredith, I feel like you do sometimes and now is one of them, I'm tired and kinda sad....no real reason just not myself. And then to top it off I hurt my back by just bending over to pick up something......not by hiking or zumba or going to the dump by doing nothing at all... Oh geesh sorry about this......have a great trip and free time.

Posts about what's on your mind are some of the best, I think. So real. I love your sense of humor that always seems to come through. Our dogs get nervous when the suitcases come out, too. It's heartwarming how they can sense things. I was (am) an older mom. I remember when my youngest started preschool, I made a comment to one of the teachers that it was nice to see some high school students helping out as class aides. She thought I was nuts. "Those aren't students, they're moms," she said. Ouch.

Safe travels! And have fun at the wedding. I'm more a cat person than dog person, but Max is so beautiful -- give him some scratches behind his ears from me, would you? And, of course, a big hug for Little Buddy (has his driving improved at all over the last week? - lol). I've made one or two of those washcloths and love them...I need to make some more as they are great to just throw in your purse or bag and take along. Have a great weekend Meredith!

Hi Meredith, I'm feeling a bit like you too, there always seems to be something that needs doing and my life is no where as near as busy as yours, hopefully your break will help recharge your batteries and I hope that the weather is cooler for you. I love those pretty dishcloths they look far too pretty to be used, they make lovely doilies. Your basket is perfect for storing your yarn it looks lovely. I like to have a blog role at the side of my blog too then I can see at a glance just what everyone has been up to, I also like looking at everyone elses. I had to laugh at your description of that young man.. could we be any different, I don't think little buddy will care one way or another he has a lovely family and that's all that will matter to him. Enjoy your weekend Meredith xxx

Thank you so much for updating your blog list. I need to do the same. SO many folks leave their friends blogs up who no longer post…its sad to get o their site and see a 2012 post!
Minnesota will be lovely. The state fair is going on. My sister always go to it.

Oh yes, Max is a handsome one!!! I hope he and your son manage nicely while you are off on your short adventure! Hope it is cooler for you too.
On being the oldest parents.....when our first one went off to Kindergarten, I was clearly one of, if not the, youngest mom there. I had our girls close in age, and they were 6 and 8 when our son came along. His send off to Kindergarten, found me one of the older Moms. Now...I have my Noah with me every day, and folks never want to offend, so I am sure they refer for me as Mom so they don't. But hey, who cares? Moms are all ages. My Auntie had her 4th at age 46 after her other three were married, grown and long gone. Such is life.
Love the dish cloths. So pretty!

Hey Meredith, it is so hit isn't it, whilst it's pretty amazing to be in summer gear and sandals all the time, and to see such blue skies and so much lush plant life, it's very draining too, no energy to do much, I can't imagine trying to do day-to-day chores, shopping, school runs in this.
I am considered "an older Mum" for my youngest. In fact another "older Mum" recently said to me she was glad she wasn't the only one! Errr, thanks ?

oh and ps, I don't think I'm on your blog list, but would love to be :) I do like a good blog list and miss it when a blog doesn't gave one. X

Oh my, I know what you mean about the generational differences, I saw it a lot at my son's wedding. Sometimes I wonder if I should do something wild to my appearance, perhaps a purple stripe, a dread lock or a crazy outfit(something not permanent). Hmmmm, a conservative accountant most of my life, I don't know how to pull it off. ;-)

I don't think Buddy will ever be bothered about your age. Love conquers all!

How fun: a wedding! Might be more tattoos and pants on the ground there?

Love the dishclothes. Great colors....you always make me wish I could knit.

Have a great time Meredith!

We've had much cooler weather here over the past few days and plenty of rain too. We are already into Autumn, or so it seems.

I think we all get times when we feel a little lost or sad, but knowing these feelings will pass makes them more bearable, it's just all part of the ebb and flow of life's rich tapestry. I'm sure the sort of heat and humidity you describe would certainly get me down a bit too, hopefully they'll be a cooler welcome for you in Minnesota.......enjoy your trip.

Love your pretty gift dishcloths and Max is one very handsome dog.

Have a great time in MN! )Today's paper says the high yesterday was 78.)As I recall, the first few weeks of school was a bit overwhelming for everyone; perhaps that's what you're feeling. I would say the LB is lucky to have you, and I'll bet he knows it, too.

Have a great trip up north friend! And I am so honored when people list my blog on their blog list! It warms my heart! I hope open house went well....I am still having a hard time with my little guy. He screams when I leave and it breaks my heart...I can only imagine how my heart will break when he leaves for college and how excited I will be like you when he calls! Wishing you a wonderful weekend! Nicole xoxo

Surely it's cooler in Minnesota. Hope you have a lovely trip. It is soooo humid here. Yesterday the dewpoint was 77% which is defined as feeling "oppressive" -- yep, that's right! Which is why I stayed inside an crocheted all the ding dong day. Ha! Those knitted washcloths are so pretty. You're an oldie but a goodie Meredith. Ha! Hugs, Tammy

I can relate to how you feel. I have felt drained here lately and in the process guilt sets in and I think to myself that there is way too much to do for me to be a slacker now. It is hot here, the lawns are brown and the heat is on. No rain yet but the weatherman said there will be. I have tomato sauce cooking on the stove and don't even feel like canning or freezing it. My friend Sally stopped by and we did have a nice visit. You may find it cooler where you are going, but then maybe not. This heat has spread throughout just about every state. The dish cloths are looking good. I made that pattern and I think it is fun. It looks complicated but really was easy. I like the colors you are using. Now that I have my Christmas scarves done I am at a bit of a loss as to what to do. I keep telling myself to work on something I have already started. Maybe that would be best. Have a great weekend. Love your Max.
(((HUGS))) Susanne :)

Sure, I would like to be on your roll, if you think it would suit. I've been blogging for more than 5 years and generally post regularly. I have kept my roll. I check it daily and like to read from it in my down time.
It's true what the above commenter says about the ebb and flow. We can't all be happy all the time. I'm presently having a low year with health problems but there are times of simple joy in there too.
Enjoy your trip.

I'm with you!! I'm tired of opening the door and getting smacked with this heat and humidity in Atlanta. Also like you - I get bored with the way my blog looks and I change things around a bit. I follow certain bloggers - like ole friends in that you check in to see how they are doing. I don't know how you would be able to check on them if you didn't have a blog list on your page. It tells you when they have updated and title. Since school has started back - I have little time to blog myself and to read - but make it a point to check out everyone on either Sat. or Sunday!! Have a great trip and do hope it's "chilly" for your trip north!!

Hope you are having a wonderful refreshing trip, Meredith! Sorry about the lost credit card and I too appreciated your comparison of your self and the young father :-) Love seeing your pretty dishcloths. Please give Max a hug from me.
On my way out to the car from swimming for a hour on Friday afternoon, I was admiring some flowers and walking without a cane when I found myself flat on the left side of my face on the sidewalk after a misstep. Miraculously, I just have a few scrapes, little bruises that don't hurt, a chipped front tooth and mangled glasses. Thankfully I am healing fast and hope to get a lot of crocheting done :-) xx

I love those washcloths. I've printed the pattern and intend to make a few (probably a lot!). I like to use bamboo yarn for wash and dish cloths. I'd be honoured if you would include my blog in your list. It's hookinayarn.blogspot.co.uk.

I'm a bit behind with updating my layout with blogs that I'm following. I'll have to get that sorted!

Hope you enjoy your break away and feel a bit better on your return
