Simple Garter Stitch Slippers

With all the crochet I have been doing I have been itching to get knitting needles in my hands.  I am like that, when I crochet I want to be knitting, when I knit I can't wait to have a hook in my hand.  You see I am never really happy!  When my knitting friend came over for Thai food and some knitting last weekend she brought over this pattern for Simple Garter Stitch Slippers, a free Ravelry download by handepande. She is making them for her daughters for Christmas.

I quite fell in love with them and cast on right away.  Well that is after I made myself finish those woven towels and crochet dishcloths.  These are a super quick project and keep you toes toasty warm.  I had mine on last night as the temps dropped a bit down towards the chilly mark.

Here have a peek.

I used J. Knits Superwash Sock yarn doubled up and size 6 needles.  This yarn was a Christmas present from my husband last year.  God bless him he has bought me sock yarn several years in a row even though I refuse to knit socks anymore.  Now that the yarn store is closed there will not be anymore Christmas yarn for me........wah!

I added the buttons as my seam was well, pretty craptastic. I think the buttons are fun.  I love the versions on the pattern, you have to check them out to see what I mean.  I can see a scrap yarn pair in my future.

I immediately started on a pair for my friend who is getting the woven towels and flowered dishcloths, remember I am trying for useful projects for her this year.  My lovely friend Pat asked for the dishcloth pattern, frankly I can't believe anyone would ask me for a pattern so thank you Pat!  It is the Flower Dishcloth also a free pattern on Ravelry.  I swear what did we do before Ravelry?  Pat, I added one more round to my dishcloths to make them a bit wider. My lovely friend  Pammy Sue sent me a link to this dishcloth/potholder which I would also like to try when I get my dishcloth mojo working again.  Pammy Sue is taking a bit of a break, go on her blog and bug her to get blogging again, I miss her sense of humor.

My wee tomatoes are growing.  I am sooooooo excited!

Don't they look fun?

I am the very proud winner of a shawl pattern by the lovely Elisabeth, it is the gorgeous one she has surrounded herself with in her blog picture.  You can find the beautiful pattern here, it is simply gorgeous.  Thank you so much Elisabeth.

Yesterday I spent the whole afternoon (well after Little Buddy's therapy) teaching my SIL's how to weave.  Now this is a bit hysterical in itself as I barely know myself.  We had fun, and even though I kept jumping around with my information because frankly it is not settled in my own brain yet, I think they are getting the hang of it.  We are making towels as I already had the yarn.......wish me luck on round two with them tomorrow.  I hope to send them home with my loom and hope that they will be on their way to woven bliss.

How are you?

I'm good. Haven't left the house all weekend. :) Those slippers are adorable. I've not crocheted any yet but should look for the simplest pattern I can and give it a go. I've had some fun times trying to teach folks how to crochet. Their winds up being more laughter than anything else. With you as their teacher, I'm sure they will be weaving in no time. :) Best wishes, Tammy

Ooh your slippers are gorgeous! I love them and as I am beginning to find my way more confidently with the knit sticks I am wondering whether I might give these a go! The buttons you've added are delightful - never mind the seam, the buttons are a must! I absolutely love that pic of Little Buddy in your previous post - goodness, what an angel boy! Bless him and you together. E xx

Fab slippers, just right for this time of year. I can point your husband in the direction of an online yarn shop, it would be a dreadful Christmas without a gift of yarn wouldn't it? The tomatoes are looking excellent. Alas here it is all over for tomatoes until next year. Enjoy your Sunday. CJ xx

It has been years since I have knit slippers similar to the ones you just made, and I love yours: color and buttons and style :) I am sure your friend will love them as well. I have been watching the cold front wondering if it was coming to you, too. but it seems so far so good for your tomatoes. Yea! xx

Fun slippers. My grandma use to make us slippers every year for Christmas. She would put pom poms on them. :-)

I think it is great that you can switch between knitting and crochet Meredith and that you love to do both.
I have lost my crochet mojo at the moment ... it is my break up craft and I can't go back to it just yet.
I am really enjoying my knitting though, more than I thought I would.
These slippers are a great idea for gifts and for you to use up your sock yarn from Christmas past.
It is exciting to see the first fruits on your tomato plants, mine are now red and I will be picking the last of them tomorrow. I got quite a harvest from them over the months and now the plants are exhausted and will need to go in the compost bin.
I checked out Elizabeth's shawl pattern that you were lucky enough to win, it's very pretty.
Have a good weekend x

Hello Meredith! Cute cozy slippers you have there, I really like the color of that yarn. My mom used to knit slippers for us, and I would wear them out cause I hardly took them off.
I'm impressed that you still have tomatoes ripening on the vine, but it is Florida after all!

Zits been on my list for some time to make slippers to have available for visitors. Those would be perfect. I'll have to add them to my long to do list.
Someday, I want to try the weaving loom too but I'm trying to rein myself in until I get tired of what I'm doing. I don't think I could jam one more apparatus into this tiny house either. How my husband puts up with my various baskets and fiber paraphanalia I don't know. I'm not so tolerant of his stuff.

I love your slippers, Meredith! They remind me of some I once had and loved! I might need a pair. ;) Did your yarn store close? I've been MIA. That is a sad thing when the yarn shops close... blessings and hugs ~ tanna

Teaching someone to do something like knit, crochet or weave really makes you think about what you're doing yourself. I love the slippers. If I didn't have so many other things on the go I'd start them right away. Congratulations on winning the giveaway!

Gosh, those are cute - and the buttons are absolutely adorable!

What a Good Husband to give you yarn. Too bad about the LYS closing.

I'm doing a (very rare for me) knit project that will be seamed, and to make the edges clean I'm slipping the first stitch of every row and purling the last. It makes an edge that looks like crochet chains. I hope it'll look good when I seam it - if the project works out that is and doesn't get frogged!

What a gorgeous pattern you won.

Have a great week! :)
