Pet Peeves on a Friday....................

I am irritable and irritated today so you are getting a pet peeve post from me, if you need sprinkles and cupcakes, I will see you next time.

I am not happy about poor drivers, especially poor drivers in the rain.  And Mr. Motorcycle driver with no helmet on, you scare the crap out of me when you cut in front of me at a rapid speed.  You  may think you know what you are doing, but one slip and I am the one hitting you and I have to live with that because in all likelihood you are a goner.  We are going 65 miles an hour, you don't stand a chance.

Waiting for over 45 minutes for my insurance card to be taken at my scheduled blood work appointment this morning, that is 45 minutes sitting in the waiting room just waiting to be called up to the front desk.  I got there 20 minutes early for my 9:45 appointment, fasting of course so I was not happy to begin with due to low blood sugar.  A nasty woman and her daughter came in at 9:51 and made a big stink about their appointment at 9:45 and she was actually taken back before me!  I waited for exactly one hour to be seen, she waltzes in late and gets seen first.  Oh yes I was kind but did inform the laboratory staff that they made a huge blunder and there was yet another woman waiting for her 9:45 appointment still in the waiting room. Poor service and nasty people should not be working at the front desk of a lab, yes I got an, "I'm sorry," but really I don't actually think they were.

Getting older.  Now I really don't mind my wrinkles too much, or my gray hair.  You see they tell the story of my life and a lot of it has been stressful, or made me laugh, and the whole story shows that is for sure.  But what I really don't like is my inability to see even large text without my readers.  I used to be quite proud of my ability to see without readers, but as soon as I hit 49 my eye sight deteriorated fast and frankly made up for lost time.  I swear I can't even text without jumbo letters on my phone and I have yet found a way to pluck my eyebrows with no glasses on.  I have tried a magnifying mirror which frankly just scares me to death when I look at it, I don't need those wrinkles to be MAGNIFIED!!!  I can feel those wee hairs but for the life of me can't find them with tweezers so I end up poking myself silly.

Gardening in the state of Florida.  Oh you think by these pictures that my garden was so successful it was not.  After the ridiculous amount of cut worms that I flung off my plants for weeks I ended up getting mites.  Really they destroyed everything and after all that care, after watering, spraying with red pepper spray mixed with a wee bit of detergent, I got one stinking cucumber and a few tomatoes.  Not one cantaloupe, not one! And to make it worse the cucumber wasn't even tasty.  I am not giving up because I am nothing if not stubborn.  I am just waiting until it cools off a bit before I start again.  The tomatoes, while taking a huge hit with stem rot, cut worms and mites did produce for a while and they were tasty, small but tasty.

Here I go about Florida again, but we just can't seem to grow decent flowers.  Ours are all so sensitive to cold weather and frankly too much heat even though it is mighty tropical here.  I miss the flowers I used to see when growing up, lilacs most of all, but hydrangeas, oh my I wish I could grow beautiful hydrangeas here.

As for Florida, the politics here absolutely stink.  The rights of women and children have been put years and years behind, yes I am talking to you Governor Scott.  Since when is it okay to put a photo opt about tourism and the Governor visiting a dolphin, front and center on the front page of the paper and have a side story about the poor people killed in the movie theater in Louisiana?  Have we become so immune to tragic killings, and the pathetic use of guns, that a picture of the Governor seeing a dolphin is more important to us than people being murdered?

Not as much time for knitting as I would like.  I swear it seems to me that as I have gotten older, and of course working as much as I do and taking care of Little Buddy, I have so much less time to knit or crochet.  I am going to try and rectify that this weekend if at all possible.  For those of you thinking, oh for the love of God get off your blog and knit for Pete's sake, you are right and I will in just a bit.

Just so you don't think I am in a total snit with no return to the positive person I can be, there are a few things I do like these days.  Our weather pattern is currently thunderstorms and lots of rain.  While I don't love working in this weather because I get soaked, this weekend is supposed to be full  of rain and I am going to stay home and enjoy it.  I feel so bad for all of you out west with the severe drought, weather everywhere is crazy isn't it?

Colin Firth, please see last post to understand my obsession.  And yes all of you fans out there, Pride and Prejudice is my favorite Colin Firth production, but frankly I will take him any way I can get him.

Chocolate chips, chocolate chip cookies and chocolate chip muffins, all of which I dived into after returning home with super low blood sugar from stinking blood work appointment.  Made with agave so you would think they were less calories but with the extra butter in them to make them tasty it sort of nullifies all that good work not eating sugar does for you.

See above to see why my behind is expanding at a rapid rate.  Along with decreased time to knit is decreased time to exercise and my clothes are getting tighter all the time because of it.  And frankly the whole aging thing makes it harder to keep your shape as areas of your body you once felt were fairly firm and intact sort of drop into another area over night.  Oops I was supposed to be positive, I forgot..........

I will leave you with the cutest sleeping boy in the world.  Couldn't you just eat him up?

Have a good weekend.

There you go again Meredith cracking me up!!! You really could write or do stand up comedy! Love LB sleeping, so darling, I love sleeping children : )
About motorcycles, they are the worst and if we hit them we do have to live with it forever : ( and no helmet, now that is craziness! I hope you get time to knit and relax this weekend, sending hugs. xoRobin

Sing it, sister. I agree with you on all of these. I actually almost had a bad car accident earlier this week because some jerk cut me off when I was trying to make a left turn. He came up behind me, from a different lane, and jumped in front of me as I was making my turn. There was no reason for it, he could have used the turn lane too, but he decided he'd rather try to kill somebody instead. :( I hope you have a good weekend, relaxing at home when it's raining sounds good to me.

Hope you get your nice quiet knitterly weekend!

I often want to say to the helmet-less riders --- put a helmet on. Your MOTHER worries about you!

You have a great way of putting a funny spin on even the worst pet peeves! Except the motorcycle guy, which is not funny at all. They make me crazy.

I hope you find some R&R this weekend and get lots of knitting done. Love the photo of that beautiful sleeping boy:)

Doesn't sound like a fun morning at the lab. I've had a grumpy woman draw my blood before, but I walked on egg shells as I didn't want her to hurt me. ha, ha. We have motorcyclists up here who drive like that as well and they too scare me. They take their life into their own hands weaving in and out of cars and no helmet to boot. I hope you get the rain you want this weekend so you can knit or crochet to your hearts content. Have a good weekend, Heather

Today I bought a pack of two pointy - they had to be pointy - peppers at the supermarket so that I could use the coupon I had to get some reward points. Only it turns out that I didn't get the exact right pointy peppers. The woman on the checkout just stared at me, so I said well, can you get them changed, so she calls someone over and then just stares at me some more. I said are you going to cancel the other ones then, so eventually she did and then the new ones came - not that I could see a difference you realise! - and then we finished up the transaction. I am surprised that I am still alive given the death stares she was giving me. What is up with people!!!! Grr!!!! So I totally get all of your peeves!! At least you have little Buddy to finish on a good note! I hope that it rains all weekend for you so that it is cool and lovely and you can spend all weekend knitting! xx

Mercy! Life can be full of madness! A motorcyclist zipped by me and in and out of traffic in front of me on my way to swim and I prayed he didn't kill anyone else...or himself. As for blind tweezing I just aim my tweezers for the general area I want to tweeze and pinch the tweezers a lot of times. They seem to capture at least some unwanted hair with this method, but then it is difficult to see, isn't it. We may get rain showers here on Sat. and Sun.!!! Please, God!!! Your plan to stay home and stitch through the rainy weekend sounds perfect. Your future garden plans are noble. And Mr. Little Buddy is precious, indeed. I am planning to head to the beach to camp with some of my kids for a week. We leave on Sunday! Woohoo!!! xx

Wow, Mere. What a day but life just happens and some days it all just piles up gets to us. I had a different morning at the dentist. Walked away without any work. Probably later tho. Glad it all got cleared up tho and they were kind and understanding. Still made a shift of emotions for my day. Our weather has been cooler a few days this week. No rain. Have a good weekend and be happy and knit away!!!

So well said .think we all have the same feelings.
Being from upstate NY I too miss the lilacs. And as for my flowers down if the sun & heat in the summer doesn't kill them then
The cold in winter does.
Hope you have a good week end of knitting.
Think I will try to make it to "The Fancy Flea Market "in Lakeland .

Okay, it might have been a rant, but it was a funny rant. I'm with you about the bad drivers. I just got home from Vancouver (two hours away from our cottage). It's pouring rain, the first in weeks which means the road is extra slippery, and nobody slowed down. Not even a little bit. As for reading glasses, they are a depressing state of affairs. I now buy multiple pairs online from Zenni and keep them stashed everywhere. And personally I think you should skip the muffins and cookies and just go for straight chocolate. :-)

We all have days like that, when other people seem to live just to annoy us. And then there is that moment at the end of the day when you come home and shut the door behind you and leave the world out. That is the best.

Yes. Just yes. I'm so with you on absolutely everything Meredith. Especially waiting at the doctor forever which is all I seem to do these days. Getting old is definitely not for sissies. I have the dreaded readers too-all over the house because they are never where I want them. I'm wishing you lots of downtime this weekend with sprinkles if hugs from your previous boy throw in for good measure.
Blessings,
Betsy

Oh Meredith, I completely understand, I have many (many) days like that as well. Honestly, sometimes I'm the crossest person imaginable, about everything. On the upside, that knitting is gorgeous, the yarn is absolutely beautiful. CJ xx

Feels good to get it all off your chest. Yell, scream, stamp your feet - boy it feels good. And it's even better to remind ourselves of the good things. This is a fabulous post Meredith, loved it. Always a joy to read your blog.

Sounds like a really bad day that can never get worse, as soon as you see that little boy he makes you smile. Motorcyclists have to wear a helmet in this country, it is the law. Unfortunately there is always one or two that flaunt the rules...

Jo said...

I started reading feeling awful and then I just started to smile and smile, I know you were being serious but it just kept making me laugh. I guess we all have those days. Two children at home was great for the first 5 days but Little M has been a toad for two days so it lightened my load. Also I liked comparing the differences in culture. It is law to wear a helmet on a bike or carry a gun here so those things seem strange to me. Hope you have a better week. Jo xx

Oh yes, aging is not fun! Stupid people make me angry and sad at the same time. Customer Service ie Manners are long gone at so many places. Yet life goes on and there are those sweet moments that truly make it all worth while. :)

Sometimes we just have to barf everything up at once, and what better place to do it than our blog. At some point while reading this post I wish I had your phone number because this would have made a great live conversation. I'm feeling much like you lately because I'm cutting back on my estrogen (look out family). Four days of 100 plus degrees coming up next week, and I want to go to Alaska and not come back till September. Hope you find time to knit this weekend :)

Out here in SoCal, we figure those motorcyclists simply have a death wish. Believe it or not, once we saw a guy on a motorcycle do a wheelie in the fast lane of the 110 (busiest freeway in the LA area).
I also finally gave up on my hydrangea here--it just isn't all that happy with drought conditions. And I wonder if it's just a bad year for tomatoes. I pulled up two of my plants yesterday--turned all brown and shriveled although they've been watered carefully.
However, Little Buddy's pictures make up for all the annoyances--loved the ones with you by the water.

I totally love it when you say it like it is. Scary driving is getting worse and worse if you ask me. And the people who drive and text.. eeeks.. And here we have driven 3300 miles so far.. and we have to get home yet! We are enjoying spending time with our little granddaughters and daughter. The cute little voices are so sweet! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Sorry you're having a crappy day/week! My husbands biggest peeve is seeing bikers with shorts & t-shirts on instead of being covered up, madness really. Buddy does indeed look very cute tucked up in bed x

I always thought that having changing eyesight just wouldn't happen to me, I was not going to allow it. Now I wear my progressives all the time. I still have contacts but can't read squat with them! Bad drivers are everywhere and the texters drive me insane!! It's illegal here and you can get a fine but no one seems to worry about that. Chocolate is really the best medicine in my books! Love that poncho!!

Good Morning Mere,
I just returned from visiting Mom in St. Augustine and I'm with you about the crazy motorcycle riders!! Coming from a state that requires a helmet --- it's always a jolt, especially when a guy rides up next to you at a stop light between two cars in the normal lane without his helmet. He won't be on earth long with those habits!!
Lovely wine/burgundy color yarn!!
Mom completed an afagan for my daughter's husband while we were home so Megan could take it home with her!! Asked her to teach me, and there just wasn't any time!!

Texting while driving!! Twice in one week some loony was texting and swerved.
HELP!!
And I have some stories about waiting for appointments too. It gets exhausting having to put up with such STUPIDITY! I hear Ya :-)))

Sending you a HUG!
Carla

Love this post Meredith it feels great to get to have a good moan now and then. I've just come back from a weekend away in the country, we were travelling in a coach along narrow windey country roads with cyclists around every corner, my heart was I my mouth especially when we were overtaking them some of them were riding two abreast taking up nearly all of the road! As for the appointment thing it's so bad over here now people come prepared to spend the day. Hope you have a good week. Xxx

Well, we all get grumpy, isn't it nice to bitch a bit sometimes? ;)

Your complaints sound human and rational to me. Thank god you're not sugar and sunshine all the time. You'd frighten the Florida politics into me ;)

You are able to return to the positive and you're forever grateful in your life. I was having dinner with a good friend and co-worker last night and we discussed how important this is. This self awareness. When someone only complains it rather invalidates them, non?

The picture of LB sleeping is the sweetest. Sleeping kids. Like freaking kryptonite. Just makes me a puddle of sap.

The wrap is a hug of love. How could she not love it.

Personal pet peeve: wrestling with the blocking after all that hardwork. It's enough to bring me to shameless swearing
