An honor for Little Buddy and a weaving finish.....................

Today was a very special day for Little Buddy.  His medical foster family came for a special visit.  He was asked to be in the wedding of his oldest medical foster sister and her wonderful husband to be, next Spring.   They asked me last Monday and of course I cried.  He will be walking down the aisle with some great signs attached to his walker.  Here they are sealing the deal.  I am very excited for him, how wonderful that they love him so much they want him to be included in their very special day,

You have seen his medical foster parents before but here is a photo of the whole gang, well minus one little sister and big brother, they were at home.  I have worked with this family several hours a week for over eight years.  I feel like part of the family and Little Buddy sure does too!  He showed them how he walks with his walker, canes and even stood up all by himself.  Today before they came for their visit we reached another world record of standing independently for 38 seconds!!!!!!!! That is doubling his last record of just a few weeks ago.  There is no stopping him now!!!

Onto slightly less exciting news.  I finished my table runner for my friend Cathy.  This will be for her birthday in October if I can wait that long to give it to her.  I am great with making but not great with waiting.  I love how this turned out but did not love the process.  Berroco Boboli Lace yarn is wonderful  to knit and crochet with but is tough to weave with.  I know this because I have used it several times before, yet once again I fell under the influence of beautiful yarn and did not remember my past issues with it.  It is single ply and breaks easily, which is a big problem with weaving.  It also has a 40% wool content so I was trimming fuzzy bits of the yarn off all the time.  I felt like I was sheering a sheep. It took much, much longer to make because I was either trimming wool bunnies or trying not to break the warp yarn.  I made two trivets with the extra yarn I had, doubled up and with a size J hook.  I used 700 yards for this project, whoop whoop for that, even though I bought it solely for this project there is none left to create more stash.  The final measurements are 70 x 13 inches, without the fringe.  This table runner is to go with the blanket she is knitting for her family room in stripes of chocolate brown, cream and almost this exact beige/gold color.  I hope she likes it and I hope I can wait to give it to her.

And I hope you are all having a great weekend.

What wonderful news Meredith, they look like such lovely people you can see how much they care for Little Buddy in the photo's and you can see Little Buddy feels right at home with them too. It's going to be a very special day for all concerned. Cathy's table runner and trivets have turned out beautifully, it's a pity you had so much trouble with the yarn but it's been worth it she's going to love it. Put it away in a drawer right at the bottom so you won't see it and be tempted to give it to her before her birthday. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. :) xx

Yay! Yay! Yay! Congrats to Little Buddy! What a sweetheart he must be to be honored in such a way. And what an absolutely wonderful family this must be to love him so much even when he no longer lives with them. Of course WE all know how wonderful he is. All boy too. :-). I'm celebrating with you on his accomplishment in standing for so long. So great! Meredith, I'm in awe of how much you accomplish while working, caring for LB and a home and husband. You are a Wonder Woman. The table runner is gorgeous and so are the coasters. I am so glad to call you my friend. Give LB a big hug of congratulations for me.
Blessings,
Betsy

How sweet of them to want him in their wedding. He will enjoy it I think.
I love the runner and I have knit with that yarn. It is beautiful, but I can imagine it would be difficult to weave.

How exciting for all of you especially Buddy! It's lovely when you become close with people and they turn into family members. Awesome. That table runner is pretty awesome as well. A beautiful gift. I love the pattern for the crocheted flower. Could I ask where you got the pattern for it? I've just started to really get into crocheting, so I think I'm very clever. lol
Cheers, Anita.

Very sweet that they want to include Little B in their wedding. I love how you captured him listening to both of them. The table runner is very elegant looking in a rustic way -- almost like burlap. :) Have a great day!

That is such wonderful and beautiful news!!! A big Congrats to the Little Buddy for the invitation and especially for standing on his own for 38 seconds!
And Claudia is right, the Bride will not be the center of attention with your little guy walking down the isle.
Enjoy your Sunday and have a great week!

Congratulations to Little Buddy! I'm sure he is going to love his role and it will be a special day for all involved. (By the way, what is a medical foster family. I don't think we have those here except maybe once in awhile for foreign children whose parents cannot travel here for surgery and they stay with a family until surgery is over). The woven runner is very lovely. I'm sure your friend will appreciate it a lot. xx

What a special honour for little B! He'll have a whale of a time :) He's growing up so quickly! The weaving is so beautiful, and the trivets too! xo

Well, I'm cheering you all on, too :) I am excited that LB continues to make good progress on standing and I hope he enjoys being part of the wedding party. I so admire your latest handiwork, Meredith, and appreciate what you are learning about how various yarns perform in the projects you want to make. The guidelines we were given for constructing preemie blankets suggested using worsted weight acrylic yarn. I was attracted to a new Lion brand baby yarn and bought it before I realized it is fine weight...so will have to go down in needle size for this one. Wishing you and yours a happy week...and will be interested to see how long you hold out before giving Cathy her present :) xx

Little Buddy has touched so many hearts! I'm a little afraid he'll steal the show at the wedding, but it looks like his medical foster family would be fine with that.

The table runner is beautiful. Now one would guess how much fussing went into it.

The table runner is beautiful. I look forward to the time when I will be able to use such items without immediate danger of them being destroyed by children. x

How exciting for all the family. I love that you all have such a great relationship. LB is the best :)

Your runner and trivets look great. I think it's adorable you can't wait to give them to your friend. hehe. I know what you mean about that weird fuzzy ball making yarn. I am knitting with some or I was. The project seemed to develop a yarnball on the working yarn that I would have to perpetually trim away and pray I didn't accidentally cut the whole thing! Well done Mere!

He'll be so adorable in the wedding! I'm trying to remember if you told me what a "medical foster family" is. I tried Googling it but didn't really find an answer. What does it mean?

The runner and trivets turned out really nice. I laughed when you said it'll be hard to wait until October to give it to her. I have such a hard time waiting for stuff like that too. lol I bet she'll love it!
