Fun little projects.......

Sunday, after a very successful few hours with the adhesive patch on Little Buddy, I thought there had to be a better way to do this.  He does great with that band aid patch on but every time I peel it off I feel bad.  I think that peeling it off everyday is going to eventually cause us problems and then he just might not be so compliant.   I started searching online and found there are all sorts of people out there that sell homemade patches.  Well I thought to myself, I can do that, so during a wee break in my schedule yesterday I stopped by Michael's and got some supplies.

I measured and area much bigger than his glasses and the current patch he uses as these new ones will fit over his glasses frames and there can be no room for peeking/cheating.  I made the front part a double thickness as my felt was very thin and you could see through it a bit if you tried. I made a sort of sleeve by sewing the front to the back leaving enough room for the lens and bridge of the glasses to fit through.  And then I plopped on some stickers made for foam decorating.  They will do nicely and if they fall off I have loads more to stick on.  Of course I was doing this all late last night after work so I did not know if it would even work until I tried it on the Little Man today.

I think we have success!  I made the side taper down, but left enough coverage so there is no peeking out in that direction.

These just might help us make this patching thing easy peasy.  Little Buddy quite likes them so far.  We will see when we give them the big two hour test today.  I see he might want to take them off as he can get those glasses off pretty fast all by himself, but hopefully he will go with the flow and keep them on.

Yes there are now more glitter decorations in my windows.  These eggs, eleven in all, were a two day project.  And let me just tell you the glitter tsunami in my house was something to see.  Why am I so obsessed with glitter things in my window?  I might have a wee bit of a problem with it.  I just can't get over how fun it is to see them spinning and catching the light.  I like these far more than those Valentine hearts, I just might have to get rid of those next year.  I had so much fun making each and every egg a little different.  Little Buddy was very excited to see them, although it is not easy to keep an active four year old from pulling the newspaper covering the table with all the glitter on it.  These eggs are large, sparky and they make me smile.  I wish I could tell you my glitter adventures are over but I have yet another project planned for after Easter.  No empty windows in my kitchen that is for sure.

Sunday found Little Buddy and I having an impromptu picnic on my driveway.  He thought it was great.  I forgot how such a simple thing could be so much fun.

Okay I better get going and do my real paperwork.

Have a great day.

Meredith, you amaze me with your creativity and you are a true SUPERMOM! Those patches are the cutest thing ever. I wish I had thought of something like that when my niece had lazy eye and had to wear patches. Little Buddy obviously is thrilled with them. I predict easier days ahead with wearing patches. That adhesive gets nasty and causes irritation and this is SO much better.

Love the Easter eggs. I think I need to find something glittery and sparkley like that to hang from my dining room chandelier. Yours are so cute. Wish I could have joined you for a picnic. Miss Piper picked me flowers, (weeds), today in their yard and a tried to give them to me through the iPad on face-time. The simplest things are the best with little ones. I miss those days. Enjoy your visit with Claudia. I can tell she's excited to see you and have Don meet your little guy. Family. Very important.
Blessings,
Betsy

That's such a great idea with making the patch fun. I had a friend whose little girl needed a patch and I wish I'd thought of that idea. You're super clever and creative and Buddy looks rather cool I must say.
Cheers, Anita.

You are brave with the glitter. My house is a no glitter zone!
Happy Spring Meredith!

What a brilliant idea for you to make the fun patches instead of those boring sticky things! He looks like he's loving them. Who wouldn't? Be sure to tell him he's a pirate and teach him how to go YO HO HO!! Your Easter egg sparklies are a big success! I still have St. Pat stuff up but need to get my Easter out soon. I got the cutest charms for St. Pats and Easter today in the mail.. will try to photograph them tomorrow. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

The eye patch is brilliant, Mere! Sincerely, whether it worked for Little Buddy or not, it could work for other children. He is a doll. Is it my laptop or is he a redhead? I think he is precious...love his smile! :)

Yeah, glitter! My thing, too, when the kids were young. Play-doh, too. Never could get that out of the carpet but heck, but I loved to play with it as much as my children!!! :)

I love the patches, my eldest used to have quite a few health issues when he was younger - his eyes being one of them. You are so ingenious, I would never have thought of doing this. He is far to old for eye patches now anyway :). Love the glittery eggs & as for an impromptu picnic - Buddy has the right idea. Take care xx

The patches you made are fab and perfect for any young superhero, you are so creative. I am shuddering at the thought of all the glitter.... but the eggs look great. We often have a picnic on the lawn outside the house, just because we can (we have no driveway). It is waterlogged now but soon, soon. Good luck with the paperwork. x

That's a great idea for the patches, I don't think anyone would refuse to wear those, they're so cute. We're big fans of picnics, even if the picnic is in our own garden, there's just something fun about eating ourdoors on a picnic blanket.

You are so clever! Your glasses patches are just brilliant. I hope LB likes showing them off so much that he doesn't want to remove them!

I love your glitter eggs. I can see why you love them so much. Sparkle is something we could all use more of! If I had a kid at home, I'd join your glitter party!

Brilliant patches, honestly, you're the best mum ever. Love the glittery eggs as well, there's nothing like a light dusting of glitter about the place is there. I know exactly what you mean about the fun of the picnic on the driveway, mine are happy with a blanket on the grass in the back garden. I really must try to do that a bit more this summer while they're still small enough to enjoy it. CJ xx

Very clever patches! And so much better than sticky icky adhesive. LB looks so much bigger in that last photo. Bet you have a tough time keeping him in long pants that are long enough!

Fantastic and I will be absolutely honest with you. i love glittery and sparkly things, so I will always endorse glitter decoration/projects in the windows.

Those patches are the cutest thing ever. I can't believe the hospital can't come up with anything better than a sticky patch that has to be ripped off. Ouch! You certainly are the queen of glitter. It's the simplest things that make us happiest. Have a good weekend.

Glitter tsunami!! Ha ha, I can just imagine. The eggs look like fun! Your idea about the eye patch was brilliant. You gotta be one step ahead of that kid all the time right?

Meredith, I love the eye patch! My sweet little granddaughter must wear a patch 6 hours a day due to an eye injury and I have not had success creating anything not "cheatable". Do you have a pattern or any details you'd be willing to share? Seems like Little Buddy is happy with his! Hugs, Terri
