Another cowl and a bit of Christmas........

I have a pretty large Santa collection, many of these lovelies sit on my big mantle.   So many houses in Florida have these big huge mantles, and lots of planter shelves all over so you can decorate like crazy if you want to.  I would love a smaller wooden mantle, more traditional, but here I am in Florida, so I work with what I have.

Sorry for the blurry photo, I am in a hurry this morning.  Most of the Santa's I have were gifts from my parents.  It is so lovely to take them out now and see them, especially as my parents are both gone now.

They loved picking out a new Santa every year, they were so excited to see me open it.  My father was especially excited as he often picked them out.  I miss that.

The smaller green Santa on the left was my very first, he is actually about a foot tall so he is small in comparison to the others.  He has a special place in my heart because I found him at an art an craft show in Rogers City, Michigan where my parents used to live.

Along with two migraines, soccer with Little Buddy, presents that needed to be wrapped, and cards addressed, this past weekend I finished another cowl.  Yup same as last time.  I think it is a pretty color for this time of year.  This will be a birthday present for a friend.  You can see the specifics about this cowl on my last post.

And just so you know I am keeping it honest, here is a photo of both of them.  I hope they are well received.  I am onto another busy week.  Aren't we all this time of year?  Hang in there, December 26 is coming soon.  We can all put our feet up with a cup of tea and breathe a nice sigh of relief on that day.

Love the Santas and how special that your parents picked them out. It is indeed a busy time of year, but never too busy to stop for a cup of whatever we drink.

Whoever would think you were cheating! That photo made me smile. Glad you got some knitting time. I made a skirt on Sunday and felt so much better for a little time to myself. Jo x

Love your Santa collection! Granddaughter helped me with xmas decorating last week. Thanks to Beau the Feline Destroyer of all Things Nice, no tree, few ornaments, some lights on the mantle, even though last year he chewed on the bulbs. Maybe someday he will settle down.

OH Meredith, I'm so sorry to hear you're suffering with migraines. I hope today is much better. Your Santa collection is very impressive and I know the memories make them even more precious. Love them. I collect snowmen and always love their cheerful faces. I don't know how you accomplish as much as you do in the weekend. Great job on another cowl, I know your friend will love it.
Blessings,
Betsy

I love your Santa collection! My parents did nothing in the way of making family traditions, so I really appreciated hearing how your collection was made. This will be a joyous legacy for your sons. My sympathies on the migraines. I have had them for over 50 years, so I really do understand your pain. In addition to sumatriptan, an ice pack is always helpful. When your life is overwhelming as I know it can easily be, please remember how many people you touch with your blog.

I love your new project especially the color. Hope you and your family are doing well. I'm off work today catching up on blog reading and updating my blog. I have to say, every time I see Little Buddy I think of my friend's 3 year old son. They could be twins... one of these days I'll send a pic. Hope you have a calm, healthy and peaceful rest of the year.

Your Santa collection is lovely. I bet you don't believe me but I don't have a single Santa. I do have a painted glass man that could maybe pass for one but only just. I love the green of your cowls, it is a soothing colour and perfect for this time of year. I hope your busy week does not trigger any migraines. Keeping my fingers crossed. xx

I love that you have your Santa collection to remember your parents by. Hopefully the memories will grow sweeter and less painful as each year passes. Love the cowls!!

I can'e believe you got another cowl done already-and with TWO migraines. One does me in for a month.
Your Santa collection is sensational! I thought they were all tiny until you said the size of the little one. I wish I had a mantle. I have been after The Mister since we moved in here to make me one but first I would need my rock wall and my fireplace installed, of course. In another life, I suppose.

Cowl knitting must be catching! I just finished another one, too. Love your Christmas display. Things here are more relaxed as our choir program was yesterday. Lots of beautiful music including O Holy Night which makes me think of my dad because it was his favorite carol. Lots of memories at this time of year, aren't there?

Dear Meredith, thanks for sharing your beautiful Santa collection and some of the stories connected with it...precious memories. So sorry you are still suffering with the migraines! How you accomplish all that you do amazes and inspires me. Both cowls are especially lovely in that color yarn. Cheering you on to rest in the midst of your busyness. xxxxx

I love your Santas, especially the sentiment behind them. As much as I like to clear the clutter, I think we can go too far sometimes, as items like these bring such joy and memories to us. Love the cowl too!

How wonderful that those giving Santa Claus' cheer you AND were all from your folks. They are wonderful!!!!!!! Your cowlwork...gorgeous Mere.
I have our stockings which Troy's mom crossstitched for all 4 of us. They are so special to us. She also gave us our Christmas dishes. My mom always gave us money. Its not the same as years go by. I should think of giving my kids something they can enjoy many years later. l..

Your Santas are absolutely beautiful!

This year has been crazy -- with *some* good things, but lots that has been difficult. Hoping that 2017 is much quieter AND that our Orlando house will SELL!

THEN --- I can put my feet up and relax.

These past two months have been crazy busy. Maybe NEXT year will be quieter and I can get more knitting/stitching/reading done. Maybe!

Have a nice day,

Wonderful Santa collection. If that littlest one is a foot tall, then I'm thinking you need that big mantel to hold them all. I'm always amazed that you manage to create even with how busy you are. I for one have no excuse except laziness and procrastination. Just yesterday I started trying to paint the boys bedroom. Yusef arrives in a week. The daybed for their room is being delivered today. Much cleaning and organizing to do. Things I don't like very much at all. :/ Have a great rest of the week.

Your santas are fantastic, and how lovely that your parents chose most of them for you. No doubt they are treasured by you all. It must be a pleasure to unwrap them every year. Another lovely cowl, your're on a roll! Sorry you've had migraines though, the last thing you need I imagine. I do hope they've completely passed now. And I hope the rest of the week goes well. CJ xx

Love your Santas, and I really like your cowls - I enjoy green a lot, so I'd totally wear one of those!

What a lovely collection of Santas you have. I don't have a mantel at all and I really miss it, especially when it comes round to the time of year when you trim up, I see everyone's matels looking very festive then and I really do miss having my own. The cowls are lovely, such a gorgeous colour.

We have the tree up, but I am balking at anything else. Just not feeling Merry. Sigh. Sometimes the clutter gets me stressed. The cowls are gorgeous, and I imagine their softness. Weather changes here (Polar Vortex imminent; snow, then rain, etc) have made Migraine Season for me, so I sympathize.

A beautiful Santa collection made even more special by the memories of loved ones that they bring. Two migraines must mean your body is telling you to slow down. Take care Meredith and try to find a little time for yourself to rest before the 26th.

Your Santa collection is wonderful, and all the more special to have so many good memories tied to it. I'm trying to put fewer things out, but I do enjoy the items that hold dear memories for me.

Of course your cowls will be welcome gifts. I love the Interrupted Cowl pattern, as you'll see on my Yarn Along post tomorrow, I have started one and I have yarn for a second.

I'm sure your gifted cowls are going to be greatly loved by the lucky recipients! They are so beautiful and made with love. Who wouldn't love a gift like that?
Your collection of Santas is amazing and I love that most of them are gifts from your parents.
So sorry to hear you had migraines lately; I get them every once in awhile so I know how awful they are. I hope you're feeling better.

Each day I drive down from the hill into the fog for work, where everything is grey. Hopefully, tomorrow the sun will be up because it's my free day. At the moment, my favourite colour is green. Like your cowls. :-) Hugs, Regula

You have a world class Santa collection! I don't have any big ones, I have a bunch of wood carved ones. I even did two myself which are hilariously pretty awful but I love them anyway. I'll try to take some photos. The special part of yours is that your dad picked them out and you got one each year. My dad just sent money in an envelope.. $20. :-) Mom wasn't much of a gift give at all. So, you are a very lucky and beloved girl. Enjoy your month.. take time to breath and enjoy the season. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Hi Meredith! Absolutely true, these days are crazy! I have been so busy and tired for the past few weeks, but this one is probably the most hectic.

Hi Meredith. Your Santa collection is so amazing. As a child, it would have been difficult to contain my excitement about Christmas once a display like that came out. What a beautiful tradition you have for your family's Christmas celebrations. May you have a peaceful week leading up to the big day.
