Christmas fun.......

Whooooooo it is over!  Well over until all the decorations are put away.  Did you have a nice day yesterday?   We had a wonderful time.  There is something to say about having a five year old in your house who squeals at the top of his lungs when he sees his red wagon from Santa.

After the rush of presents this photo sums up our day.  Little Buddy sat in his new wagon for hours.  He can get in it all by himself, and fasten the seat belt.  Which makes him stuck for a while so I don't have to wonder where he is.

I think he received every known Paw Patrol item out there.  Including this sleeping bag from my friend Holly.  He asked for a Paw Patroller, Air Patroller and Tracker the latest Paw Patrol pup.  He got a new plate and bowl, a big stuffed Chase, Paw Patrol books, puzzles and a toss across bean bag game.  Ooops, I forgot a Paw Patrol watch and this Rocky's farm track.

This five year old was in Paw Patrol Heaven!  Even though I tried to keep his presents limited we have lots of friends who like to buy a toy for a cute five year old so he got much  more than I anticipated.  Many of my friends have much older kids so buying for a little one is fun. He did play with everything yesterday, including spending loads of time in his wagon.  We are so fortunate to have this precious boy in our lives.  He brings the magic of Christmas to all of us.

There were gifts for Mom, too!  This great project pouch.

This beautiful Mountain Colors Hand Painted Yarn and the pattern for the Gradient shawl.

This really cool Drunk Yarn that comes with capsules of color and mordant that you can dye yourself.

Okay here is a funny story.  My closest yarn store is about 40 minutes away.  Two of my patients live fairly near it.  So on Thursday I stopped in to buy baby blanket yarn as we are expecting a new grand nephew in the Spring.  I have not been to this store for months and months as I am on self imposed yarn buying restrictions until I can get my stash down.  I do not have baby blanket yarn so knew I had to visit at some point.  I had a break between patients so I decided on the spur of the moment to stop in.  I also have decided in advance that Little Buddy's therapists presents for next Christmas will be an Interrupted Cowl by Heather Hill.  I know I will have made about 10,000 of them by then, but it is a fast and easy pattern with a unique look.  It will be much faster than the Hitchhiker's I made for all of them this year.

I popped into the store for these yarns specifically.  I was only in the store for a few minutes when the bell rang and in walked my husband and Little Buddy.  What are the odds we would be there at the same time?  I thought it was hysterical as we were literally the only ones in the store besides Terri who works there.  My husband wanted me out of the store quickly so told me to drop my goods at the register and head out.  So technically I did not buy the yarn for the blanket and cowls he did!  All in all 2,225 yards of yarn were added to my stash.  I have a lot of work to do to get it back down again.

This was taken this morning.  The wagon love is still going strong.

This was my very favorite item of the season from Little Buddy, made at school of course.  Look how old he looks in the photo!  My favorite part is this, "My family is great because....My mom is the boss and my dad is a boy."   It makes me laugh every time I see it.

Hope you are catching up on some much deserved rest today.

Oh my gosh....could that boy of yours BE any cuter. I love the star ornament. You're the boss???? Smart boy!!!!

When Stephen was in preschool, the teacher put together a cookbook of the kids favorite recipes. Apparently we cooked our Christmas turkey at 4 hots for 4 WEEKS!!! LOL

Little Buddy is so cute in that wagon. I bet that will be his go to reading spot for a LONG time. :-)

Happy New Year!

A 5 years old Joy is only matched by an 20 mo olds excitement! This Grandma may have gone a bit overboard this year on the gifts but gosh I enjoyed it. Little Buddy is so cute in his red wagon. Tiger is into Thunderbirds, and old show from the 60's that his Dad introduced him too...so we had all things Thunderbird. I have completely lost my voice today but I'm a happy thankful Grandma! Love to your family.

I would agree with your friends, it is fun to buy for little ones, the sheer joy when a little boy or girl receives something is beautiful. Love the little star complete with photo and statements. I think in all families I know mum is the boss and dad a boy :-) What an astute observation from your very clever little man. Lots of love, Christina xxx

Absolutely lovely photos, Little Buddy looks entranced and entrancing in his wagon. The yarn 3 skeins of yarn look glorious, I am going to look for the cowl pattern, a quick make between pairs of socks will be handy.

Ha-ha! Ha! You are the boss. I'm still giggling over that. I bought more yarn, too, a week ago -- but have barely crocheted at all. Great that your husband feeds your yarn addiction. Looks like the little guy definitely made out like a bandit for Christmas. I've never even heard of Paw Patrol but looks like it's a whole lot of fun. My oldest son doesn't get caught up in what he considers to be consumerist hype (i.e., Christmas decorating and buying) but he did say I could have made it a little more festive at home. HA! I did put some decorations up and have one little tree on the dining table, but haven't gone all out with the big tree in quite a few years now. Oh well! Have a good week.

Meredith, I couldn't stop smiling at this post. I am so happy that you had such a wonderful Christmas. We still have our radio flyer wagon from when our kids were small. Now the grandkids play with it! I love the yarn store story. My Hubby wouldn't have the slightest idea of what to buy in one though. I love that star ornament. Handmade gifts win every time and when they're made by a precious boy it doesn't get any better. Enjoy the moments.
Blessings,
Betsy

The red wagon is perfect for Little Buddy! Isn't it great that it has a back rest? My girls had a red wagon but it didn't come with a backrest back then. Just add a little homesewn pillow and Little Buddy will live in it!

Wow....Santa was sure good to all of you! It was a Paw Patrol Christmas here too for the Grands but I ended up giving them exactly what their parents had given the oldest one for his birthday on the 21st. Next year I am sending them an Amazon gift card so they can get the presents so we don't repeat again. The kids didn't seem to mind the duplicates though and sometimes it's good to have two of something to minimize the squabbling.

I love the picture of Buddy in his loaded red wagon. It is so much to see Christmas through the eyes of a child. Your the boss how precious is that. They make this time of the year special. Hugs and Prayers from your Missouri Friend Shirley.

Ha! I am sitting here laughing, about the store encounter and the L. Buddy star quote. Precious. So glad you had a good day yesterday. We did, too. The one thing Joy {4} has been campaigning for for the last few months was a yo-yo. Her joy of finding it in her Santa stocking was a special memory for me :) I slept in till 10 this morning! Thanks for posting, Meredith. xxxxxx

Looks like you all had a good day and Buddy looks so happy! I clicked on the link for the cowl and it looks like something I could make easily. I will have to check it out. Do you use the bamboo yarn for it or what else can one use to knit it? I really need to get my stash down as I've not knitted since last year. Sigh! I have a new leaf to turn over in 2017 which includes putting a small fabric quilt together and do some knitting. What a surprise that your husband and Buddy surprised you in the yarn store! Good deal! At least he knows what you like! Take care and may your new year be blessed with good health and good memories made to cherish forever!

Enjoy, and take care,

LB certainly does bring joy to everything! I read parts of your post out loud to my daughter (who is trying to study) and she enjoyed hearing about LB -- especially the reasons why is family is great.

I have no idea what the Paw Patrol is, so I'll have to do some research. Childhood is indeed its own wonderful world.

Wishing you the loveliest of holiday seasons!

Oh gosh! What a fabulous Christmas Meredith! Little Buddy looks so happy in his new wagon and your star ornament from him is wonderful. Such a hoot. When our son was in kindergarten they made Christmas Tree ornaments out of construction paper with their picture at the top and gold glitter all over. One piece of the gold glitter ended up on the picture of our son - right on his front tooth - too funny. We crack up each year when we hang that ornament. Great yarn presents and funny yarn store story. Wishing you a very Happy and Peaceful New year!!

Great Story of a very Yarny Christmas! I love the gradient shawl plans Mere. Lil Buddy's thoughts on the star are terrific.
Im preparing to take zach back to ohare. yesterday was simply depressing and full of tears as Al left for OKC. I so pray my children will want to move back nearer us when they settle and have children. I'm so selfish. I dont demand our relationship. We have lots of love and texts and calls etc. I do feel we are a strong loving unit, but I get really upset with goodbyes.
The only saving grace today is that we have the party to stop in at for our 90 year old friend . Good distraction. I have to say I need a day to sit and knit and regroup. I have loved cooking and shopping and playing games and hot tubbing with the family, but I'm honestly a bit wore out.
I too got yarn for Christmas and it thrills me in a silly but real way. Thanks for letting me vent

You can really tell how much Little Buddy loves his new wagon! I love that it has a seatbelt in it so he can sit securely. Looks like Mama received some nice gifts, as well. So cute what LB said about you being the boss and his dad is a boy. Made me laugh, too! What a smart and funny little guy! No rest for me yet...Brian's been home from work and I've been doing errands and taking down Christmas stuff.

Just had to say how much I love the pictures of you and your family (congratulations, Mr. 23!) , especially the pictures of Little Buddy. His happy smiles remind me of what's important in this life, and never fail to cheer me up. God bless you for all you've done for him, and for sharing your story with your readers.
