And so they march................

Yesterday I had the privilege of taking my SIL's to Tampa so they could grab a bus up to Washington, D.C., for the Women's March on Washington.  There will be a live stream on this site this morning if you are so interested.

On a dark day in our history, a dark message was delivered to our country by the next President.  I am choosing not to join in with all of that.  I am choosing to fight for a better world for everyone.  I am so proud of my SIL's for not just talking but for actually going to the March.  Later in the day I found out Claudia's husband, my wonderful BIL Don, was catching a bus at 4:00 in the morning to join the March.  When I talked to him last night he told me he was walking for Claudia and myself and all women out there, but he was also walking for Little Buddy, so he would be treated with respect and get the services he needs.  It made me tear up.

The atmosphere was charged with excitement at the meeting spot in Tampa.  And I saw lots and lots of Pussy Hats worn by all sorts of people.  The organizer told us a man drove up with four hats he had made and donated them to the marchers and then drove off.  Amazing!  I was happy to give a hug to the five recipients of my hats.  Had I known about this project earlier I know I could have knit more than six hats.  But at least I can say six hats of mine are in Washington, D. C. right now preparing to march with hundreds of thousands of people.  Maybe just by my mention of this project here on my blog many hats were made and delivered for marchers across the country.  Every hat helps.

I wish I could have taken photos of everyone but here are just a few of the women I saw who were celebrating and getting ready to have a say .

I made this Kitty Pouf yesterday to give to my SIL's when they return to Florida tomorrow.  I wanted them to have something to show my appreciation for what they did.  I saw the idea for these poufs on Araignee's Tangle Web.  I had the yarn, Madelinetosh A.S.A.P super bulky, and I had the size 15 circulars.  I cast on and got it done in one day.  I have one more skein of this yarn so number two, "pussy cat pouf," will be on the needles today.

To all of those marching, I send my best.  To all of those cheering from home, I send my best to you, too!  I never in my life thought we would be in a place like this with our country.  The darkness that was alluded to yesterday was fueled by the very person giving the speech.  I will not remain silent, I hope you won't either.

Blessing to you my friends.

A dark message indeed. Maybe that will be his new nickname from me--Heart Of Darkness.

Thank you for the link to livestream the March. I am thrilled by the numbers of men and women attending. I am so hopeful that it will be peaceful and inspiring to everyone.

Already his first executive order was to roll back the one from President Obama that reduced mortgage lending rates for borrowers, thus dashing hopes for many hoping to own either their first homes or keep their existing ones. And this is how he cares for the American People.

Il overheats. I saw some yesterday.
I watched the festivities yesterday until the speech. We turned the channel then. I do think we need to start showing our support for what's important in our hearts.
I'm happy Little Buddy has his uncle there standing up for his rights.
March on.
Hugs

Lovely to see all those smiling faces standing up for what is good and right. Well done on the hats, and well done to your sisters-in-law and brother-in-law too. Love the pouf, no doubt it will be very well loved and a good reminder of the strength of everyone who came together to march. Wishing you a good Sunday Meredith. CJ xx

I may not like the man (or what he stands for), but I do like that he has mobilized a whole LOT of people to do what is right for the country. I hope the momentum continues and that everyone holds the government accountable for what they legislate.

Good job on the hats, Meredith. So lovely of you to take your SILs to catch the bus which gave you a chance to meet the other ladies who would be wearing one of your hats. Kudos to all! The little kitty pouf is adorable. :)

Well Meredith ... I just connected the dots ...
Last night I was showing my husband all about the PinkPussy March on my iPad and actually showed him a picture of a gentleman named Don who was making a sign and would be marching in support of his wife Claudia {whose blog I follow} and their handicapped nephew. I was so moved that he would do this.
Then I get on here first thing this morning and find out they are YOUR FAMILY!!!
I didn't have time to make a comment until just now...
Anyway, although I originally found Claudia's blog through yours, I had NO IDEA!
And knowing this, and that the handicapped nephew is our very own Little Buddy just moved me to tears this morning!!!
Although I am not marching in body, my spirit is there... especially for our Little Buddy.
Love you my friend... and please give your family a big hug and kiss and Thank You from ME.
Danette
And as always, Hug Yourself and Little Buddy from ME too.

Thank you so much Meredith for all you contribute!
Love all your pics...great people one and all!

As a strong woman, an intelligent woman,a disabled woman I find him extremely offensive!
So when I see all these protest of strong women and the men who support them/us...I am filled with HOPE.

And it is a worldwide protest.
We are not alone.Yesterday was a day of Great Mourning.
Today is a Great day of Renewed Hope!

Meredith, I marched in Chicago today and a woman come up a gave me a pussy hat that she had made herself! I now have a great keepsake from this wonderful day. I marched with my son and my grandson and I read there were 250,000 people there. I believe it! It was amazing!
People are paying attention and that is a good thing!

I need to thank you Meredith for inspiring me to make hats and join in the march here in Charolette. It was on your blog that I became aware of the pussy (cat) hat project and the link to the pattern. It felt so good to get out and be heard. It is my hope that these movements continue and grow even bigger until we overcome this evil!

I can tell you it WAS a SEA of PINK in DC! It was an amazing day. I was tickled by all the hats with the tags that the donors put on them. And did I see some GORGEOUS hats walk by. Some knitters really put everything they had into them. I was so proud to be a part of the knit community.

Lots of marchers on this side of the map today, too. Although I couldn't participate because of a required all day choir workshop, my daughter, her friends and some other friends were there. And my spirit was beside them all.

Much love to you, sister.

The march in D.C. was unbelievable. The mood was electric and so positive. All the pink pussy hats were awesome. I am kind of crowd phobic and probably would not have attended had it not been for my MIL. I can not thank her enough for coming to do this. It was such an amazing event to witness. I love the pink pussy poof. Lisa

It seems that the birthdays of some of my family members have coincided with politically charged days for the last few months. Friday was my oldest SIL's birthday and we celebrated on Saturday. I managed to watch the Inauguration and some of the Women's March and am so glad that those who participated are safe. I was sad and concerned about some of the negative rhetoric I heard from some of the leaders of the march which seemed to me to diminish their message of wanting freedom and respect for all. I was also concerned to note that while Right to Life groups were allowed to march they were not allowed into the leadership of the event which sent a mixed message to me about wanting freedom for all. The pink hats were outstanding in the pictures that I saw, and I hope that the attention they brought in the march will promote, respect, and reason in working for freedom for all. xx

It was heartening to see such an active response to the election of Donald Trump - a man whose actions and words are so offensive. Surely that man is delusional! Alternative facts indeed (with a huff of indignation from me).

Thank you to everyone who marched and protested in whatever way they could to reassure my believe that the hearts of so many Americans are fair and kind. You have shown the rest of the world what you are truly thinking.

The election of Donald Trump is unsettling for countries all around the world. Yesterday, he withdrew America from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, an economic treaty of which Australia is a signatory and which took many rounds of negotiations to establish. In one action, he has undone years of diplomacy and partnerships with other nations and a treaty which was designed to enhance the economic outcomes for the region. It doesn't make sense to me.

What he has done is an act of turning his back on one of the USA's oldest political allies. When former friends turn their backs and walk away, there is nothing left to do but turn around and find other friends.

I'm not suggesting that Australia would not be friends with the USA but actions like Trump's rejection of long-held partnerships do affect international relationships and his country's reputation abroad.

You may be interested to know about an interview broadcast on Australian TV on the 23rd. A quote from the introduction of the piece:
"the anti-Trump forces are not just taking to the streets, they're dusting off the constitution to try to have the President impeached."

The interview was with Richard Painter, a Republican lawyer who advised former president George W Bush on ethics. This guy comes from the same side of politics as Donald Trump.

He disagreed with Trump's ideas:
"All of those ideas are ephetical to our constitution and he is going to need to comply with the constitution in order to be a good president, or to remain as president. We will remove a president who cannot comply with the constitution. "

Painter's final word was "He is my president, he is our country's president and he will conform with the constitution or we will remove him. That is the way it is done in the United States."

The interview sounded like the Republicans were looking to list as many reasons possible to stop Trump yet these were all reasons presented before the election.

The link to the interview (vision and transcript) is here:

The pouf is genius. I marched with my son and many of his friend's and classmates mothers and my friends and lots of us saw people we didn't expect to be there or know were going to be there in SF. It was beautiful. I am with Dee when I say it is important to see this momentum continue. We must not let our situation normalize ...

Bless your SIL's for marching, and bless you for making so many hats! My sister and I, and two of our friends, were there. The atmosphere was electric, in a very positive way. Definitely an experience to be remembered for a lifetime!
