Ramblings of a weary woman..........

Hello my friends.  How was your week?  These two beauties ate a late afternoon snack at my house this week.  We have been getting a lot of rain lately, dear Texas and the areas out west with fire all around, I hate to even utter those words, it sounds so silly with what you are all going through.  The swamp behind my house has filled up and the deer are safer on solid ground where the gators and water moccasins are not as likely to appear.  I rounded up Little Buddy to see these two, as deer are usually not snacking this close to my house in broad daylight.  We spooked them even by moving to the window inside our house.  They did not go far, just to the edge of my property for more to eat.  So beautiful and serene aren't they?

I can't remember if I posted this new sheep I got for my birthday from my dear friend in North Carolina.  As you can see I am fishing for photos to post.  It has been a long week.  Work had left me very weary by Thursday and on top of that on my ride to pick up Little B from school a massive migraine set in.  I am just now shaking it.  Even with medicine that literally knocks me out I am still experiencing the after affects of it all.  I feel like my brain has been scrambled for days and the pain was pretty relentless.  None the less I am in my dry home, slept in my own bed, with all the possessions I own, not worried about where I am going to live or how to rebuild my life.  I have nothing to complain about.

Very little work got done on the Envision Cardigan.  I did not do a stitch on it until Friday and now am trying hard to get more work done on it.  I am trying to stay monogamous with this project because this yarn, the fourth time it is trying to be made into a sweater, deserves it.  I like the look of it so far.  What do you think?

Normally I do not post photos of clothes but I am so excited.  We are going to a nephew's wedding in November and I have been searching for a dress to wear.  I am not easy to fit being tall, flat chested and now apparently in my 50's getting very hippy.  For a wedding we went to this past February I searched for months and ended up wearing something I already had that I feel was not quite right.  I understand no one cares what I wear, they are only looking at the bride and groom, still I want to look presentable.  This time I decided to shop online instead of the never ending driving around and searching like I did last time I was looking.  I have now ordered five dresses, all of which have been returned.  Finally, yesterday I took Little B out and we made a quick stop at Stein Mart.  I saw several dresses which we took into the fitting room to try on.  I think he was my lucky charm as two of them fit and looked decent.  I think the woman in the room next to us was laughing at our conversation.  Me saying things like, "This is a possibility."  Little Buddy saying things like, "No way Mom that is not a possibility."  Me, "Do you know what the word possibility means?"  Little B, "No but it isn't one."  Me, "My knees look horrible in this one, I inherited your Grandmother's knees."  Little B, well he had no response to this one, he just made faces at himself in the mirror.  I am not sure which one I will wear but I am happy to have two options and the price was right.  And I might add I am keeping them both.

I finally walked outside to view my sadly neglected back pool area.  I have exactly two flowers to show you because I have exactly two flowers.  The rest of my yard is cluttered with leaves and twigs, and my flower beds are inundated with weeds.  I am not bending over to pull out even one weed.  My head is just starting to recover there is no way I am going to jinx it now.  Again, what are a few weeds when I actually have a yard that is above water?   I can walk around the yard and go back into my dry house.  I will take the leaves, twigs and weeds considering what others are going through.

This boy has been neglected this week, too.  So today I set about making him feel beautiful and special.  I combed a whole dog of fur out of him and I fear there is still more to get out.  He can only handle so much combing.  In standing you have to support him while he is being brushed because he  easily loses his balance.  I will try to get more off him tomorrow and maybe give him a bath.  He must be so hot with all that fur on these hot and humid end of summer days.

Really, he is the best boy ever.

As for this one he was making a mad get away from me this morning as I tried to round him up to get him dressed for the day.  He is doing well in school although had a tough day on Friday.  He told his assistant that he was done.  No matter where they went, therapy, art or computer lab, he was done.  Frankly by Friday I know how he feels.  She had a good chuckle about it but told him even though he thinks he is done he still has to do what is expected of him.  It was probably my fault because I let him nap much to long on Thursday due to my migraine.  I simply could not get up.  So by the time I got him it was much later than usual which meant he had a hard time falling asleep in the evening.  Oh well it won't happen very often and by Tuesday, when he goes back to school he should be all rested up.

I know we are all praying for those affected by the floods in Texas, those affected by the fires out west, and frankly for the whole state of our country and the world.  I know I am.  Have a good week.

I know how migraines take it all out of you. Glad you are feeling better. Little Buddy cracks me up! Out of their mouths come the funniest things. I told Tiger that Annie Belle is getting a little fat so she is on a diet and as gently as a 6 year old can he said, well Grandma you a little bit fat also. I love that child! Oh and of course it is so true! I am so lucky that my Texas family escaped most of the damage. Lots of lost power but no flooding in any of their homes. So many lost everything. The world is truly a mess in so many ways. I love the dresses and either one will look great! Hugs!

Some weeks are plain hard and a migraine just puts it over the edge, I know. Hope this week is better-you have a good perspective on the important things!

Poor you. Migraines are the worst. I have been plagued ever since I retired for whatever reason I am sure I don't know. Never had one when I was working-just in my late teens, then poof, they vanished until now.
Clothes shopping is enough to give me a migraine. Gone is that body I knew so well. The one that replaced it while I wasn't looking is a sack of potatoes. I live in dread that Son #2 is going to want to get married someday and I will have to look presentable.
I hope you have a better week ahead-and Irma stays far from your neck of the woods. Mine too. We still haven't finished cleaning up from Irene.

As we flew into Burbank, CA, last night the fires were sadly impressive in the hills near my sister's. Evacuations have been lifted for our area, but there are still some in harms way here and near Multnomah Falls and around other wildfire areas. As you noted we have lots to pray about. As we have gone back and forth across the USA through cities and airports and miles of gorgeous open land we have been encouraged as we interacted with many kind and peaceful folk in our country that has so much beauty in it. I hope you and yours are able to rest before committing yourselves to another busy week. After 75 years of suffering debilitating migraines, my oldest sister has been headache free during all our travels! I am praying that you will be migraine free going forward! Hugs xxxxxxxxxxxx

Your conversation with Z-Man in the dressing room sure had me chuckling. :) One of my childhood friends was evacuated in the Houston floods and just messaged me tonight that they lost just about everything. She said it's a major disruption, but they will be okay. I feel ya with the migraines. No fun at all. The first inkling I get that one is starting, I take medicine otherwise it will be full blown and I'm down for the count. Bless that Max. He sure is a love. Your cardigan is looking great. I must try making something wearable one of these days. Nice dresses, too. My husband was a manager at SteinMart and, in fact, we were supposed to be moving from New Orleans to Chicago for his job, but then he asked if I would consider moving to Kuwait. Of course, I said no, no, no and look where I'm at. Ha! Take care, Tammy

Sorry to hear about your migraine, our daughter suffers from them and I know how debilitating they can be. Lots of rain here too, I feel s sorry for the people in Houston. I'm keeping a wary eye on Irma, nobody needs another hurricane. I like both your dresses.

Lovely cardigan so far, it's going to be very elegant and beautiful I think. Love the dresses as well, great choices. I shall enjoy seeing you in the one you choose to wear. Your conversation with Little Buddy made me laugh. How fantastic to have deer just outside of your window. I hope he's well rested now ready for the new week, and that your migraine is gone very soon. CJ xx

I hope you are going to be migraine free this coming week. Both your new dresses are very pretty, both are a definite possibilities :-) Wishing you a wonderful week xx

I am so sorry to heat of your latest migraine. You know I can empathize with you my friend. i'm glad you're feeling a bit better and hope you can rest more today before another busy week begins. You little guy is hilarious. I love to be the bystander listening to conversations like that. They always make me smile.

I just got an alert on my phone that they are evacuating Glasier National Park right now. One of Dennis' coworkers was camping there this weekend. The governor here in Washington just issued a state of emergency today for ALL counties in the state because of fires. With highs in the 90's predicted for the next 10 days at least, there won't be much relief in sight. Still, it's not as bad as the south right now. Prayers are being said for all.
I hope your next week is calmer Meredith.
Blessings,
Betsy

I'm glad your property can handle deer instead of the dangerous swamps and animals within! Your dresses look nice...2nd one's design is nice! I like the beginning of your sweater too! Keep it up. Praying for you to feel much better. Our weather will be hot thru Tues. in Oregon. So much smoke in the air right now that I choose to wear my glasses instead of contact lenses. I'm staying indoors today. Exercise mat, here I come! Have a good weekend, my friend.

I've never had a migraine, but understand how debilitating they can be. I hope you are having a restful weekend. LB is such a riot! Love his comments in the dressing room. They come up with the funniest things. Your dresses are both so pretty! I did the catalog ordering for my son's wedding. I had so many dresses coming and going. Then, the week before the wedding, I went out and found something on the rack at Dillard's, completely different than I'd had in mind. The dress thing is never easy for me:/ Happy Labor Day!

Bridget said...

Oh Meredith, as a fellow migraine sufferer, I do hope you'll feel better.

I like both of those dresses a lot. Why is it so hard to fine regular, nice dresses?

Kiss that sweet Max for me. I just love him.

Little Buddy's comments made me chuckle out loud.

I'm afraid I must agree with him ...............I am DONE! Done with people, done with realtors, done with all of it. (Oh, if only sometimes we really could BE done!) Sadly ... another week looms ahead.

I think that blue dress will be lovely on you.

Poor old dog! Do you have a Furminator? I have found that to be the best pet brush around, although it doesn't work on all kinds of fur. The first time I tried it on a previous cat I owned, I too ended up with another cat's worth of hair. Hope your migraines stay away!

Gosh, you are wearing yourself out, my friend! I wish I could give you some of my leisure time.. :-) Kristi has been ripping up deck boards so Travis can add new deck boards when he comes home from work (poor boy!). I'm with you on being amazed and frustrated with our "leader". So much pretense and "photo ops". I hope you stay clear of any more migraines. I have never had one but I can imagine how awful they are. Give your little man a hug from his friend across the country. And be glad you aren't like the guy in Houston that found a 12 foot alligator in his flooded living room! Eek! Stay well.. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Migraines and the drugs for them always leave me feeling wrung out, so I know what you mean. It seems as if the time lost is twice as long as the headache itself, due to the after effects. Hoping you were able to rest up. The wine colored dress is my favorite!

The Well Fed Wheel said...

Nice score on the dresses and the Envision Cardigan is looking good too! I love the hemline on the wine colored one...it looks very elegant. Sorry about those migrains. I've heard they can be very painful. I've never gotten the head ache but I do get wavey colored lines in my vision if I'm under a lot of stress. My eye doctor told me it was a form of migrain behind my eye ball and that's bad enough. I've been watching all the coverage of Mother Nature's bad behavior lately. Those poor people in Texas! It had to be so scary being hauled up to those helicopters to safety but thank goodness they were able to recue so many. So sad for those that perished though. They are all in my prayers.

I hope you are now recovered from the migraine and that you will have a good week. The dresses are lovely, hope you enjoy wearing whichever one you choose for the wedding and both of them on lots of other nice occasions too! Love the conversation with Buddy, too cute!!

The innocence of the young, how Little Buddy's comments made me smile. Love the cardigan, such a beautiful make. Love the hemline on the first dress, both are elegant. Here's hoping for a pain free and more relaxing week ahead for you.

Migraines, urgh, I feel your pain. Literally. I saw an osteopath last week which seems to have helped a bit.
I am the total opposite of you in shape - short and definitely NOT flat cheseted, am far far far too welll endowed, and yet same as you I cannot find a dress to fit. There must a be a somewhere in the middle shape of person out there for whom dress shopping is not stressful
Much love

Oh gosh Mere. They have to find a cure for those migraines.
Your very real posts are refreshing to me. you have 2 flowers? Well that's a pair! Your growing a child not flowers. ANd he's growing!
You two in the dressing room , such a slice of your life . Such a sweet slice.
I LOVE BOHO. And you may not be THE Bride but you are a bride and you deserve to feel beautiful when you get gussied up.
Your GOLDEN is so amazing. Our golden pup next door continues to taunt me with his adorableness.

Thanks for posting. I love your posts.

Just popped over to see how you are and am sorry to hear that you've been suffering with migraines, hope you're feeling better now. Your cardigan looks great, so well done for persevering with the yarn.
Both dresses are lovely, I would have kept them both too. You never know when you'll find another you like so much and having a reserve is a good thing!
Love your dog, btw, what a charmer!

I hope that migraine goes away fast. They are so debilitating and really hard having a little one. I suffered with them so bad from 20s thru menopause and then it was like a new world for me as they left. No more vomiting and being out of it for three days. They need a cure for them. I love the blue dress but you will be a knock out in either of them. Love the picture of Buddy fleeing from you. He is such a joy.

Fellow migraineur here, so I feel your pain. Our odd weather here in NEO had me in fits last week. 58 one day and 85 the very next, literally, so I had a massive headache for two days, despite meds. And the aftershocks...let's not go there.

Here's hoping your days even out in all areas. Take care.

Love both of your new dresses! Nice work finding them. Hope you are feeling much better now! LB is so funny! My GS would agree with him as he was DONE after 4 days of KGN, too. Now he's in second grade, so it didn't last. Take care.

Hi Meredith,

Both dresses are lovely but I like the second one best with the sort-of-paisley swirly patterns. With your figure, I think it will look very elegant and stylish. See what you feel like on the night - if you feel very 'hippy', wear the blue one but if you are feeling more conservative, wear the red one. Whichever you feel most comfy in.

Little Buddy's advice cracks me up! Do tell me you are keeping them all in a book for when he is 21. So precious.

Will Max allow you to groom him when he is lying down? Yesterday I saw a demonstration of alpaca shearing which was a different hold to sheep. (I'll blog pictures sometime) The farmer rolled the alpaca onto its side so it was lying down and after shearing one side, rolled alpaca over to the other side to finish off. Maybe Max will let you do most of him like that? Is he much of a wriggler?

Give Max big cuddles from your Australian friends (who are still missing their own Max).

Love and hugs xxx

Sorry I'm behind in commenting on your blog...first and foremost, I hope you and your family are safe with Hurricane Irma heading towards Florida! Not sure where in FL you live...if you have to evacuate or if you're hunkering down at home.

Migraines are horrible and you really had a doozy. You've had so much stress lately...I hope you can somehow find some R&R time. Loved the photos of your boys in your last post and the ones of LB helping out in the kitchen.

Thinking of you...stay safe!

Willow said...

I too am slow to drop by and see how you are these days. I am hoping and praying that you and your family are safe in the midst of the hurricane.

I loved your attitude--you're safe, dry and secure. It's a blessing. When people ask how I am, I tend to answer that I'm great; no one shot at me today. It's just a reminder to keep life in perspective.

I hope you are completely recovered from the migraine and it doesn't return!!

I think this is my 2nd ever comment on your blog, but I love reading every post. I just wanted to pop in and say that I am thinking of you and your family in Florida, I live in the UK so I'm not very familiar with the geography of where you are, but I hope you are all safe and this awful hurricane loses strength before it passes over Florida. I hope your migranes stay away for a while too. Sending love.
