I think we have a winner........

I think we have a winner in the shawl to go with the wine colored dress contest.  I think this South Bay Shawlette will be the perfect pick.  Although I like the other shawl I made better, this one is definitely more Autumnish.  I think it will be perfect for a November wedding.  The other shawl will be a gift to my friend Lynda in North Carolina for Christmas.  It will be perfect for her.  I played a bit of yarn chicken with this shawl as all I had left at the end of my last row were a few yards of this yarn.  Speaking of this yarn it is from The Verdant Gryphon,  it is Traveller, in the colorway Mag Mell.  This was gift yarn to me a while back and I think it made the perfect project.  I used 560 yards and a size I hook to make this beautiful shawl.   It will be fun to wear and hopefully make my very plain dress a bit more festive,

In other yarn news I have a bit of a confession.  Last weekend I was feeling very sorry for myself.  I know not a great quality but I am being honest here.  I was supposed to be in New Orleans with my sister and BIL, but frankly it was way too expensive to go.  I have a son in college and Christmas is coming, plus I missed many days of work when good ole Hurricane Irma came through town and knocked lots of my patients out of power.  If I don't work I don't get paid, that is the big bummer of being a contract employee.  Last weekend was also the New York Sheep and Wool Festival, now I know Claudia was in New Orleans so I would not be going anyway but still in my dreams I would be there.  Then this weekend is the Fiber Festival in Asheville, NC. very close to where my buddy Lynda lives.  We always think about going but again this year I had a conflict with an appointment for Little Buddy I could not miss.  The joke is on me because that got canceled today by the doctor.  So here I am feeling all sad and such, I know I am a bit of a head case, so I decided to go to my LYS anniversary sale.  I sort of forced myself to go.  It is a bit of a drive from my house and we had just gone to the farm with Little B.  I was tired from my massive migraine the day before that was so bad I could not even drive Little B to school.  Wah, wah, wah, are you sick of me yet?  I drove to the sale after the farm and bought this yarn.  I had a good idea for the Queensland Collection Sunshine Coast yarn but not the beautiful sunflower colored yarn.  I have been trying to get my stash down to a manageable level, I am under 30,000 yards even with this purchase, but I need to be better.  Is it even right to feel guilty about yarn?  Anyway, that is why this yarn has entered my home.  Yarn will always be my weakness.  Still beautiful yarn on sale is never a waste is it?

I thought the Queensland yarn would make a beautiful shawl for the other dress I bought for the wedding.  It picks up the beige of the pattern but is not overwhelming in any way.  Who knows I just might wear this dress instead.  I better get hopping on this new shawl if I hope to get it done.

I am hoping you all have had a wonderful week and get some rest on the weekend ahead.

And the weather is so beautiful today here on the gulf coast - you could even wear one of your pretty shawls - right?!

We all deserve a treat now and then. It's hard when we want to go somewhere and just can't do it. My retina specialist offered me an earlier appointment and I had to turn it down because I'm sick, sure would have liked to have gotten that out of the way.

Hooray for the finish; it is a beautiful shawl! I love the jewel colors. The new shawl is going to set off the second dress so nicely-nothing like knitting to help you out of self-pity ( even is it is deserved!)
Here's to celebrating the extra hour of sleep this weekend!!!!!

Your new shawl is gorgeous Meredith. You’re just being honest with us. I think we all have times of self pity. I know I do. Sometimes I miss my kids and family family so bad I honestly don’t think I’ll survive the feeling. It means we love and are human. You wanted to be with Claudia and were disappointed when you couldn’t go. Yarn helps. Yarn helps A LOT! Your stash is still very small compared to many. I admire your self restraint. :-)
Blessings,
Betsy

What a beautiful shawl! I love the drape, too. Fiber is the best form of self-medication for the blues, IMO. Hope you are sunnyside up soon!

Meredith that shawl is perfect with the wine colored dress. I always love to see your creations! So sorry you didn't get to go to New Orleans and see Don's show. I bought myself a little gift after going through an MRI. I say it's all OK!! Hugs!

Mere.. I think that shawl may be my favorite of all you've done.. the colors make my eyes so happy! I hope you wear that one! I'm so very sorry you didn't get to go to New Orleans to get to see that fantastic city with your sister and BIL. I do hope you try to do it someday. I think buying yarn was a very smart decision. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

The shawl looks lovely with the dress Meredith the colours in it are amazing, and don't you dare feel guilty for buying that yarn it sounds like it wont be around for very much longer anyway, I can't wait to see it transformed into a beautiful shawl. Have a great weekend. :) xx

A little self pity makes us human and a bit of self indulgence with yarn buying helps. The shawl really does look amazing with the dress, I love the drape, stunning.

Your shawl is beautiful and it goes with the dress perfectly. It's always good to have a choice though, who knows, if you get the new shawl finished in time you might decide to go with that one. I have the same weakness where yarn is concerned, it's so easy to splurge when you see something you like, but I think a little treat every so often makes you feel better, so why not?

The shawl will look stunning with your dress!

And the new yarn is lovely. You deserve a little treat, since you had to pass on the big ones.

Have a good weekend!

Your winning shawl is lovely MERE!!!! And yarn therapy? Well, in the grand scheme of things, it is really a necessity. It is not like you never use your stash right? We need to have ways that pick us up when we are down. Yarn is fine. Yarn is good. A golf game is over and the 70 bucks is gone. Movies cost at least a skein of yarn and if you had popcorn, thats' two skeins.

Yarn math is crucial to the budget thinking! PLUS we make and give gifts.
No yarn guilt Lady! not allowed

I think you have a winner in that shawl too. It's gorgeous!! It looks so pretty with the dress too. Score!! I had planned on going to Ashville today too but sadly my plans fell through so no new fleeces for me this time around. Bummer ;-(

WOW!!! The shawl is gorgeous and looks great with the dress. As for your reasons for succumbing to a yarn purchase, you had a valid incentive...so sorry you had a horrible headache and those disappointments, and I know you will make good use of the yarn :) Happy Weekend and hugs to you and yours! xx

I always say this, but I LOVE the colors in the shawl and in the other yarn. Especially the golden colored one. Gorgeous! And, I'm giving you permission - for what it's worth - to buy all the yarn you like;) It makes us happy just looking at it, so see all the good cheer you're spreading?

You definitely deserve to treat yourself, Meredith. At least you actually use what you buy. Our LYS recently had a sale but I resisted. I need to make use of my stash before I go buying anything else. Your shawl is beautiful! Have a blessed Sunday.

Definately you have a winner. Very pretty and those colours!!!! I can understand why you would be feeling sorry for yourself and I totally get would be the same. Why can't we just have a money tree that lives in our backyards? lol I just want to buy as much yarn as I like. lol A good Sunday to you.

I really really really like your new shawl too! It does add a bit more colour pop! It’s a great idea to have a more neutral design on your garment and have your shawl be the wow factor/ you can change your look depending on your mood or the occasion with your shawl! You can never have too much yarn... it’s a known fact ! And if it makes us happy, then why not?!?!!

I love it when that happens with yarn, it is the best kind of jeopardy! The colours are beautiful, it really is a winner. Happy Halloween! Jo x
