The first week of the New Year......

Here we are with a week gone of the New Year already.  Wow!  I am already behind reading blogs and blogging, so much for starting the New Year on track.  I have been working three days a week of the past two weeks, putting in 12-13 hour days so I can't say I have had much rest.  Lots of beginning of the year paperwork and such has kept me busy at home when I am not at work.  But yesterday we did find the time to make a trip to IKEA for a new bed for Little Buddy.  He is getting too big for a toddler bed and he is really too small for a twin bed.  I had a whole other bed in mind when we went, an adjustable bed that grows with him but look what I found, this darling bed.  It is just the perfect size.  I'd say it is about 14 inches longer than the toddler bed so it has plenty of room to grow, but still feels like it isn't too big for a wee little boy who thinks he is big, but is barely on the growth chart.

Here is the funny part of the story.  We were looking at the sample bed in the store, with Little B popping on and off of it to see if it would work. There was a duvet on the bed and pillow covering the headboard so I assumed the top was big white slats.  I did not know there were any sheep on the headboard until we got it home and put together.  How cute is this headboard?  Now I know this bed was meant of Little B.

Of course in typical IKEA style the fitted sheet comes in the size of the special mattress but no other linens did.  I bought the twin robot bedding and brought it home intending to have it all tucked in so I could use it when he moves to a twin bed, but quickly realized I would not be happy with it like that.  After a late afternoon trip to Joann's Fabric and Crafts for some light weight flannel fabric to make a top sheet/light blanket, I made three blankets to put between the duvet and Little B.  I then took on the duvet and duvet cover, shortening the length by 8 inches and each side by 6.  I think the finished duvet looks and fits perfectly.   As for Little Buddy, when he got into bed last night he proclaimed it to be, "The most cozy spot ever."  I can't ask for more than that!

Work continues on my new wrap.  Well whenever there has been a spare minute there has been work, and frankly those minutes have been tough to find lately.  I have 24 completed squares, and there are many circles left to put this beautiful golden border on.  I am going to run out of this gold color yarn before I am done so will pop by the yarn store this week for more.  I am hoping for simple and elegant, but we will see how it turns out.

I have enough yarn in my stash to make three different sweaters.  My goal this year is to simply knit one sweater.  This soft and beautiful yarn is by Malabrigo.  I got it for free with a scratch off card from Eat.Sleep.Knit a few years ago.  They placed a scratch off card with your order so you could win some lovely things.  I won $100 in yarn, I know right?  I was beside myself.  I ordered this yarn and have been researching the perfect sweater for it ever since.  I have always wanted to make the Einstein Coat by Sally Melville, this might work perfectly.  After this past week of cold temps I should have made it long ago because I could have been wearing it all week long.

How has your first week of 2018 been?  Are you staying warm?

That is the sweetest and perfect bed for Little B. Great job mama!

We've had great weather here - almost no snow, sun and above normal temperatures. But that will change on Tuesday when the snow starts (5 to 10 cm predicted) and then freezing cold temps (-28 C on Wednesday). By Saturday it will be back up to -2 again and warm all the following week. Little blast, short lived, with much needed snow for the farmers in the Spring.

Have a great Sunday Meredith!

Oh, I love that coat! It will be beautiful in that yarn.

The Counting Sheep bed is charming; too bad it needed custom bedding, but at least you are a Mom Who Sews. It looks cozy and inviting, and its inhabitant will get lots of good rest.

I am knitting in that golden colour at the moment, it is a ray of sunshine in these colder months. I think you should go for it with that sweater jacket - it looks lovely. Have a good week. Jo x

Coziest ever! Love that Lil B loves his sheepy bed. May it bring him deep, restorative sleep. May he share it with his lil animal pals for a long time.
I love your crochet colors. The gold is lovely.

Wow, , Mere, I have always wanted to make that einstein Coat. You would look awesome in it. I love the purple malabrigo yarn.

First weeks' been nice. Dental work went smoothly. enforced down time during first 48 hours meant wonderful time to knit and nap. Baked low carb bread yesterday. Baked some muffins for fireman. Very cold here but not really bothering me in the least.

I could almost put my hand into the photo and ruffle Little B's hair. He looks just adorable in that bed that could have been made for him. Love the colours in your wrap and that coat will be amazing in the yarn.

Adorable bed, the perfect size I think. Love the new wrap as well, really pretty. Chilly here, but nothing like your northeastern coast temps. I hope you're not as busy this week, it sounds as if you haven't stopped. CJ xx

I love that bed for Little B!! So cute and the perfect linens after some Mom adjustments. My Grands are so darn tall they will outgrow their Mom and I in no time. They want new beds so we will see what the new year brings. Love that color of yarn and that coat/sweater would be something I would wear all winter! My year has started out slow and I'm also behind. Yikes!

A new bed for your little guy is a big thing for him and I just loved what he said about it. Darling boy. The wrap you're working on is wonderful. And that coat.. what a accomplishment that would be! I hope you get more moments to work on your crochet. I am doing the Woodland CAL with Lucy and getting it going today is my goal. I did the little sample and love the pattern! Enjoy your Sunday! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Love the bed and so perfect with the sheep. We bought the adjustable one so that we could alter the length of the bed to suit each visitor (Grandchild), this does mean that I now have several variations of bedding to fit. I have been so taken aback with the weather news, snow in Florida...my goodness!

My two little ones had exactly the same beds from Ikea! We had the natural wood ones. I always liked the little sheep in the head board. Your Little Buddy has the best mum ever, making sure he is all cozy and happy in his new big boy bed. I hope you get some time to crochet next week. Your work days sound punishingly long and exhausting. Hugs xx

I agree with Little Buddy - that bed looks like a *very* cozy spot!

Oh my, that sweater you are planning in that yarn will be a stunner! And what could be better than winning YARN???

Take care, Meredith. We can do this! xo

That headboard is adorable. We have Ikea here as well. They have some great furniture. I bet you loved making the bedding. I used to make cot sheets when Daughter was a baby. She had a clown theme in her room. It was only much later that we found out she was one of those children who are afraid of clowns. Oh dear!

That is a very cute bed and obviously a big hit with lil B......cosy indeed.
If you would like something beautiful and simple and a joy to knit take a look at " Dissent" a Lisa Mutch design, I have made it in blues and last week cast on again in raseberry and cream combo. It is a soft light (sock yarn) shawl that I used constantly in the cold weather and got many compliments.
Happy knitting.

I know it's been cold in Florida. My daughter texted us one morning that she had to use the heat in her car in Miami! She froze during her holiday visit home this year.
I have always wanted to make the Einstein Coat, too. My aunt made one years ago, and it turned out just beautiful.
I am so impressed by all the sewing you did for LB's bed. And those sheep are just perfect!

What a fabulous bed, I love it. There'll be no more tantrums at bedtime, who wouldn't want to go to bed when they've got a sheepy bed? Wow, how lucky were you winning $100 in yarn. I've just started knitting a sweater, the first one I've attempted for many years.

Little Buddy's bed is just perfect! How cute are those sheets!

Lucky you, scoring that beautiful purple yarn. That will make a lovely sweater coat.

Well, as you can imagine it is cold, cold, cold up here. 18 degrees this morning when I checked my phone. But, we are loving it. Lots of occasions to pile on the hand knits!!! And, lots of reasons to stay inside and knit them.
