On my day off.......

On my day off there was cleaning, laundry and agave sweetened, gluten free, blueberry and strawberry muffin making. Yum!  I also saw a private patient who is getting ready to head off to college, I will miss her very much.

While Little B was swimming there was plant watering.  I am so happy my oldest Christmas cactus seems to have re-rooted and the small one I rescued from my parents porch is starting to thrive again.  There is new growth on all three of them.  See the photo bomber in the reflection in the window?

I walked around just to see if anything is surviving in this late summer heat.  I found exactly two blooms, everything else is dead or full of weeds.

Trying to get a good photo of these two together continues to be a challenge.  I even tried it with my big girl camera and once again failed to capture just how darn cute they are.

Bear has giraffe eye lashes, they are so long.

A rare smile captured with Hank.   He smiles all the time just not when the camera or phone is out.

Little B is blowing bubbles here which is also hard to catch in a photo.  He continues to be a bit grouchy and over sensitive, then again so do I.  Maybe it is a long summer, molars coming in (with him, not me), or just the oppressive heat and humidity.  I have had a bad headache on and off for two weeks, he has just been fussy.  Today he cried and told me he really missed Max, and wants the boys to go back to their house so Max could come back.  So hard to explain to a little one that Max is not coming back.  We waited five months to get the boys after Max passed, still it is confusing.  Max did not play with Little Buddy, the boys do, so I am not sure where all that came from this morning.  Back to the pool, it was even too hot for Little Buddy to be happy here this early August afternoon.

There was school supply shopping, which is great on a tax free weekend.  Little Buddy also got four more shirts for school.  We have to move onto more mature themed shirts like superheroes and sports because Paw Patrol isn't that cool in first grade.  Little Buddy is different enough with his issues and his tiny size, we don't need anything else for the kids to notice about him.  Paw Patrol can be worn on weekends.  I long for uniforms, that would make it all so much simpler.

This weekend I hope to get a few rows in on my East End sweater by Alicia Plummer.  I only have about an inch and a half of the seed stitch border to go before I knit the seed stitch capped sleeves.  If you are a knitter you know that seed stitch seems to create a time warp, time actually slows down so much you never make any progress.  This has been my worst year ever using yarn and finishing projects.  I am not worried, life is busy and it is not a contest.  Just enjoy playing with yarn when you can my friends.

I am resting up this weekend, although I seem to say that every weekend.  I must need more rest than everybody!  Next week is expected to be very busy with work, adding a new patient to my schedule and I have no idea where he will fit in, but he needs so much help it is a must. There is also a progress note due on the 8th, for a very involved child.   I have two appointments for Little Buddy, one for myself, and meet the teacher morning next Friday.  Our school starts on the 13th.  Summer is quickly ending here in Florida, although the heat and humidity will remain until mid October.

I want to thank you all for your kind comments on my flower shawl, you made me smile each and every one of you.  I hope you are all surviving late summer no matter where you are, and I hope you all have a peaceful weekend.

East End is going to look so pretty on you. That color of red is gorgeous!

I think you capture the boys beautifully --- ALL the boys!

I honestly don’t know how you do it all a Meredith. You are Superwoman to me. Cute pictures of the boys. Chloe won’t look at the camera either. How do they know! I’m sorry about your heat and humidity although some humid air would be great fo help with fires right now. Enjoy your weekend and try to rest.
Blessings,
Betsy

School uniforms are indeed so much easier and certainly in the UK for some schools it is so much cheaper. Those puppies are a delight. Enjoy your restful weekend.

Dear Meredith,

Summer is about surviving the heat here; one more month to go and later it will cool down hopefully. Your puppies look adorable!
Hugs,
Gaia.

I can imagine how hard it is to get a good photo of Bear and Hank together, it's hard enough getting one of Archie on his own, though the photos you show of them on your blog are always so good. Awww, I think it might be some time before Little Buddy stops missing Max, I still miss my childhood dog and it's some forty odd years now since he was here. Your Christmas cactus plants look to be thriving. I don't really do house plants but I bought a Christmas cactus at the end of last year and it just rotted in its pot. I hadn't overwatered it so I think it can't have been potted up properly, such a shame.

Everyone is adorable! Sorry there's been some grouchiness and sensitivity though. I'm sure you're right, the heat doesn't help. I had an ongoing headache as well when we had a hot couple of weeks. By hot I mean around 80F, don't laugh at me, we are all very delicate over here, we start to wilt at 80 and it's pretty much all we can talk about. I love the colour of your new sweater, scrumptious. I really ought to try and knit a sweater again. In fact now I think about it, I do have half a one on the go. I shall dig it out and see if it's doable. Or maybe it needs to be frogged, we shall see. I hope you have a good weekend, with plenty of rest and a little knitting. CJ xx

I would find it hard to work on knitting or crocheting of any kind in our summer heat! but I dearly love what all you ladies do! in this drone and high tek and star trek and every other drek and the age of the robots in our faces ... thank heaven for you ALL!
you are each keeping an important ART and SKILL alive and well!
and wow. speaking of eyelashes. holy moly.
please tell me why boys have star eyelashes? my brother's were so thick when he swam they sometimes clumped into stars. and there is his darling sister ME who had maybe three on each eye. poor thing. LOLOL! well. ya gotta laugh. this is when I get crazy. it's been in the 90's and triple digit heat index for weeks (which is our normal) and my brain is cooked.
but hey! no ally-gators and BIG snakes... so... I guess it's livable! XO

I love the yarn you are using for your top, and can't wait to see the FO.

Those pups are ridiculously cute. They look like a couple of characters.

I get how Little Buddy is feeling. It seems like the heat and humidity are just relentless, and it gets harder to stay on an even keel.

I wore school uniforms through high school. There are many mornings when I get dressed for work that I wish I still wore one!

Have a good weekend.

When kids get tired and fretful, lots of odd bits of thoughts and feelings start coming out. Even now, with my sons being in their early 30s, I'm often surprised at what they remember.

Your sweater is beautiful--the color looks like a glass of wine!

Your pups make me so happy! So does the color of your knitting.

Nice photo bomber ;-)
Like above said: you must be superwoman, so it's normal that you need enough rest! I wish you had more colleagues to help you, it sounds like there is just too many work! And because of your big heart, you will just do it all and I really hope you will not end up with a burnout...
Take good care of yourself!

I think you capture just how cute the boys are and Little Buddy! I have moments like that where I want Charlie back so I understand. It passes and he is so young to understand! We have school uniforms here and it's wonderful!!! Rest up the weekends are way too short.

It is cool these past few days but headed into low 90s again. I water my flowers everyday. Thankful Megan helps out once in awhile. My roses are coming back. My two new ones bloomed only a bit. Doggies are cute. Hope to knit more next year. My goal is a quilt finished this fall. Days are going fast cuz we're busy! Enjoy a bit of moments of rest this weekend, busy lady!Hugs!

I love seeing what you are knitting. That sweater is gorgeous! The dogs are a hoot. I think children grieve the loss of pets very heavily. It's easier to understand life and death cycles when you are older.

My dogs won't look at the camera either. I think they inherited it from me. :)

Love that East End sweater and your yarn choice is beautiful. You are so right about seed stitch time warps! Hope you're able to find your way out of that time warp soon.

Hope you get some free time to knit on that sweater; it's a beautiful color and pattern! Where did summer go so quickly? Three of my GK start school again this month. Too me school in August seems a bit cruel; I like the day after Labor Day tradition personally.

I liked the photo bombing you captured! The knitting is a rich color-really nice and relaxing every time you get to pick it up!

wow you sound busy! So sorry he is missing Max, maybe a memory photo book would help? I loved your comment on paw patrol being not cool enough for first grade! ha! I miss the days of having little ones when I read your blog - all in a good way!!

My dog won't look at my camera either. She has no problem when I'm trying to read something on my phone, just comes right up and puts her wet nose on my arm. But if I point the phone at her for a picture, she looks away.

Good luck with your busy week.

This summer does feel endless, well at least the weather. And having lived in FL I know it really can feel that way there! I love your sweater project and have a couple of her patterns on my wish list too!

Prolonged heat can be so exhausting, for body and spirit alike. I'm sorry you've had to deal with it, along with headache and grouchiness. I admire that you can knit in the heat - it's a beautiful colour. Here's hoping it soon cools down!

Those fur boys of yours really are amazing. I'm SO glad your xmas cactus are all doing well. It would be such a shame to lose even one of them. I'll have to take a shot of my big pot of mine to show you. Your burgundy sweater is looking amazing!! I haven't crocheted a stitch on my trip to Ohio.. we've had the puppy for 24 hours now and she's quite something. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

I can't believe school starts the 13th - seems to get earlier and earlier every year! What happened to the days where school didn't start until after Labor Day?!

Little Buddy looks so cute in the pool blowing bubbles. And you know I'm always envious of your gorgeous Christmas cactus. Mine is healthy looking but rarely blooms. And if it does bloom - it only gets one or two blooms. They obviously love your tropical weather.

Just saw your flower shawl - oh my goodness, it is gorgeous.

WOW, school starts really early for you guys. I remember when school didn't start till after Labor Day, now it seems all schools are starting in August. Oh, I loved uniforms! I wore them all my life , Catholic Schools and then being an OR nurse, (scrubs), love, love uniforms! Little B looks great in the pool! Is he excited for a new school year?
I'm with you being tired these past few weeks, why, I am not sure.
Have a great week!
And yes, seed stitch...ugh! But so beautiful when done.

Lovely dog photos again. I can't believe you are still waiting for cute photos. My computer will melt if they get any cuter! It looks like our heatwave has now ended after about 10 weeks without rain. Hopefully yours will too. Schools here don't reopen until September, then it is a very long term ahead of them.

They sure are cute those dogs! Glad you are having time to walk the garden and smell the roses even if it was amongst the chores. Jo x

We can't do all things at the same time. And yes, seed stitch = go slow 😉. But I like the texture of the stitch.
