This morning a took a walk on the beach all alone. It was blissful. The beach is only 25 minutes from my house yet I have not been there for a year and a half. I am always saying I am so busy and frankly I am. With working four 12-13 hour days in a row, taking Friday's for appointments and all those errands you have to do, private patients on Saturday and Sunday mornings, well there isn't much time for the beach. Little Buddy also takes up loads of time as he should. But today my private patient canceled and I decided to jump in my car and take a walk while I had the chance. Oh my it was sooooooooooo beautiful. The water is warm, the sun not to hot. There were pelicans and all sorts of sea birds, and already at 10:00 way to many people. Yet I tried to think of the positive, I heard foreign voices so I was happy people from around the world were visiting this beautiful area. I saw parents lifting their kids out of the water and helping them look for shells. I saw people of all shapes and sizes taking photos of this trip to remember. It was really lovely just to listen to the gentle waves and smell the salty air. Now to get back there again before too long!
Yesterday as I was working on a young woman in my office I felt so crowed and knew I needed to get some things cleared out. I have a big therapy table right in the middle of everything, but it needs to be there so I decided to remove a small book shelf, consolidate some items, get rid of books and then I looked at my yarn. I know moving yarn along somewhere new does not sound like much but to me it was. I donated a few bits and bobs of yarn but thought that one of you might like the following yarns. They are way too nice to give to the donation store yet I know after all this time I won't use them. So here we go.
#1: Filigran lace yarn, 100% Merino, 1200 meters total and the book Golden Morning a spring collection of knits from 2015.
#2: Ella Rae lace Merino, 460 yards, 100% extra fine merino yarn and the book Knitting for Peace. I bought this yarn in North Carolina because it reminded me of the mountains.
That is it. You can just tell me which one you are interested in or both if you choose. No having to like my blog, or mention to a friend or post about this anywhere. Just make sure I can get a hold of you if you win and that you check back next Sunday when I will post about the winners. If you are not interested no worries, I completely understand not wanting to add to your stash.
Both yarns are lovely but apparently I will never learn not to buy lace weight yarn because it is not my favorite weight to knit with.
And now I am seriously going to get back to using the yarn in my stash. I need to lighten my load!
Hope you all have a great week.

What a blissful place and so close to home.I am sure you savoured every moment.
I love knitting with lace yarn and part way through a scarf.I am using a pattern called Upstairs which is free on Ravelry.I have just done 90 granny squares using up my DK stash left over from other blankets. Now to join them a together!!!When it is finished it will go to a local charity which supports the homeless in our area and also refugees in Greece.I just like to do something while watching TV.
Hope Little Buddy is fine.Barbarax
I haven't been to the beach in way too long also--it did me good to see your pictures. I will see if my DH will go this week now that he can get in the water again!
I would love to knit (you) a t-shirt with the purple lace yarn--the raglan t-shirt is the next class for my knitting machine! It would make a beautiful project yarn!
Your beach photos make me so happy. I was just down to our little shore this morning thinking about how nice it would be to bring my knitting down and just sit and knit by the water.
You are giving away some lovely things. As much as I would love any of it I can NOT add a single thing to my stash or I would have to move. Having said that I am going to a fiber fest this weekend coming up so I'll be cheering on the winners from the sidelines.
The Ella Rae would be my choice. We are heading to the gulf shores next week and I can’t wait to be at the beach. Northern Wisconsin is quite lovely right now, though, leaves are about 50% color and they are fluttering to the ground on this very fall like day. And the Packers are winning!! Good day.
Beautiful photo! Thank you for the offer, but I'm not a lace knitter either...In fact I just won a skein on the yarn crawl that I will give away. I would be interested in thumbing through the Peace book, but wasn't sure if they were a package deal...
I am also a grace and also interested in the Peace Book I knit for MOther Bears and I heard they got their start in that book THanks Meredith
Isn't the beach incredible? You have inspired me to get back there again. It's such a great stress reliever. Lovely photos...
aaaaah Meredith! The beach! I LOVE your serene beach photos. One of my favourite places too. I am so glad you got yourself there.
Like you, I don't go as frequently as I should or could, especially when my child's school is extremely close to a beach. I keep intending to take a coffee and drink it at the beach after school drop off but, as usual, life gets busy and somehow we forget to prioritise our own relaxation.
I berate myself: "why can't you prioritise just 10 minutes? 10 minutes is still beneficial and better than no minutes." It's about time I listen to that internal voice or maybe use it more sternly!
You are so sweet to offer your excess yarn as a giveaway. Both yarns appeal to me. As you know, I love purple, but I also love Ella Rae Lace Merino. I have some bottle green leftover in my stash and it is so heavenly to use. Some more Ella Rae would never go astray. I would be excited to sample either of the yarns you have showcased here.
It is no surprise that we both like these colours. We have so many things in common. May you have a great week and more opportunities for short breaks to replenish your spirits. xx
Meredith.. I'm happy you got the serendipity of having a free few hours to yourself and that you took advantage of it to go see your beautiful ocean. If you draw my name I'd love the 2nd set as I love variegated yarn and those are great colors. And I'm all for knitting for Peace. I wonder if I could knit for removing you know who from office? :-)
Sending you big hugs from Oregon where it's only 61 deg. and rainy and grey.
((hugs)), Teresa :-)
Happy Sunday Meredith. I was SO glad to read that you had a little bit of "me" time at the beach today. If anyone I know both needs and deserves some time to themself it is YOU, my dear friend. You give so much of yourself to everyone else that it is wonderful that you had that time alone. The photos are so beautiful. Time at the beach restores me but we don't get there often enough either. It's an 8 hour drive for us so we don't do that very often, especially since Mandy isn't in Portland anymore.
You are so generous in the yarn gifts. I would love the Filligran yarn as purple is my favorite color.
I hope that you have a wonderful week full of moments that surprise you, bless you and make your world a better place to be.
Blessings always,
Betsy
I always enjoy the beach and am blessed to live two minutes away so it is a daily event for me. The yarns reminded me of the moor here at the moment they are ablaze with colour. The heather's are a delight amidst the green which is starting to change to yellow and rust as we go through the season. Do not feel any obligation putting my name into your wonderful giveaway, the postage costs here would be astronomical. Have a good week.
Wow, the beach looks so beautiful. That water, so clear! And it must be amazing to see pelicans in their natural habitat. There are one or two in London parks, but otherwise I've never seen one. I won't enter the giveaway because I usually find wool a bit itchy (I know - how frustrating for a knitter) but I have no doubt your generous giveaways will find good homes. I hope you manage to visit the beach again soon. CJ xx
I love spending time at the beach but we don't get there very often either, such a shame. I'd love to do some lace knitting, such beautiful yarns both of them, but I know what postage costs are across the Atlantic so don't worry about adding my name to the giveaway, I hope someone enjoys that lovely yarn.
Love your beachy photos. Glad you were able to get a walk in. That can be so restorative! nice give-aways, but please do not include me (I've got way too much right now - lol).
Your visit to the beach sounds blissful. You needed that I think.
Thanks for your yarn offerings. I am tempted but I don't knit with lace weight yarn... please don't include me in your give-way. There are no doubt more worthy knitters out there :-)
Have a lovely week xx
The beach was so restive. I could hear it, and smell. AWWW!
Like you, I love fingering yarn. But, oh how I dislike working with it. Sometimes it is just too wonderful to pass up, and then what do you do with it. You give it away! I won't be having a favorite, because I would just end up giving it away. However, I do know something Marvelous will be made from the yarns.
So glad you got some restorative time by the water. Even the Decision to take time--no matter how much--can feel rejuvenating.
Good luck to all the entrants. I am not a lace-weight knitter.
It gets to this time of year and I also think why didn't I do more of this or that before the weather changes, sigh, life!
I love the purple yarn!
Have a great week!
ps your pictures of Little Buddy make my heart happy
love the laceweight yarn so beautiful!! I'm glad you got to the beach, my husband and I live with so many state parks within an hour drive. We were up at lake Placid which is 6 1/2 hours away and I loved being in nature. I am making it a MUST that we explore what is near to us more often.
Your own quiet time is a blessing! Either of the yarns would be a treasure.
Both yarns are beautiful! I'm desperately trying (and failing miserably) not to add any more yarn to my stash for a while. We'll be moving soon and I'm going to need a full sized moving van for my yarn alone. Yikes!
Your walk on the beach sounds delightful. Your water is so gorgeous and peaceful. Our beach has huge crashing waves instead of gently lapping water.
I would love the purple knit lace. Thank You for this generous giveaway.

I am so glad you got to the beach and relaxed!!!!! Those 12 hour days are killer.
The colors of those skeins are amazing. I'd go for the Ella Rae but honestly someone else should have it. I rarely do lace.
I hope whoever wins shows you what they create with it!!!
Hope lil B is getting more used to his school routine. Do you get a 3 day weekend in October ?
hope so!
I have a Packers Shirt now and if my Cubs continue to collapse I will root for The Brew Crew!
Thanks for sharing some photos from your beautiful beach walk! I am so glad you enjoyed it. It is lovely of you to give away wonderful books and yarn, even though I don't want to be in the drawing...I have so much and just won some yarn and a card. Happy week to you and yours! xx
What a lovely and relaxing outing to the beach. I'm glad you were able to do this for yourself. The photos are beautiful.
The ocean is so pretty and glad you got to go there. I was able to go in Aug to the coast. My daughter is going later this week. When I lived in Felixstowe in England years ago we were so close to the English channel but didn't go there as much as I'd wished. Rocks not sand on most beaches there. Your yarn is lovely but I DON'T need any more yarn in my stash. Take care of yourself. You deserve it!!
I so enjoy your blog. Following the adventures of your boys is a delight and watching Little Buddy grow up is a real pleasure. I look forward to his adventures. I love lace yarn so Filigran lace yarn would be my choice. A shawl in purple would be a delight to knit.
Dear Meredith, I love walking on the beach, but don't do it as often as I should. Love the wind blowng my hair, but not sand in my face. I have enough fibre to sink a ship, so will leave it to someone else to win. Have a happy week. Regards, Robyn
The beach is my happy place (I just posted two beach photos on my blog). Of course, mine are of the Pacific Ocean waves which are never warm.
I love the purple yarn--#1! A purple shawl is calling to me :)
Lovely sandy beach. The beaches near us (not really close, about 60 miles away) are hardly worth visiting because they are pebbly instead of sandy. We have to go a couple of hundred miles to find a sandy beach. You are so lucky.
Glad to see you made it to the beach for some chill time. I have the sea just 10 minutes from me but rarely go because I just don't want to see all the garbage. If I see it, I have to clean it, and then I'll be picking up trash for the next 30 minutes or so. :/ Plus, right now, it's just too hot -- 111 F of a high today. Really wish Fall would make an appearance.
What a beautiful pictures of the beach! Lovely!
What a nice yarn, the filigran, I love it.
Meredith, thanks for the opportunity for a chance at such lovely yarn and books. I am just learning to knit from a friend and it is a joy. I love that so many of you can't resist yarn in all it's beauty. I'm drawn to #1.
The beach pics are relaxing and I'm very happy you found some unexpected time for helping your own sweet soul. The beach is an inspiration in all things in our busy lives. Thanks for sharing your days with us. Verna
The beach is my happy place, too! Though my body of water is Lake Michigan. I don't get there as often as I should either. I am so glad to hear that you finally got a break and were able to take a walk on the beach. That kind of relaxation might help with your migraines, too!
You are very generous to giveaway your beautiful yarn, but please don't count me in this giveaway as I don't knit.
xoxo
hi Meredith,
oh your beach walk … so happy you chose to walk a stretch of sand when you had the chance! I live steps from Lake Ontario and walk the beach & bike along the lake path every chance I get.
such beautiful books & yarn & so kind of you to offer a giveaway.
knitting for peace sounds wonderful! thank you.
have a fabulous weekend xo deb
What a beautiful beach. I can feel its calming influence through the screen! I love the colours of the Ella Rae merino, and the book looks interesting. Thanks for the chance to win. x
Hi Meredith,
It is always a delight to read your posts about Little Buddy. As a lifelong horsewoman, I can especially understand what his horse therapy has to offer him, both in terms of physical movement in rhythm with the horse and in terms of joy. How wonderful and visionary that insurance will pay for at least some number of sessions of this. May Little Buddy have many happy hours with his equine friends! As to your generous giveaway, I am drawn to the Ella Rae merino and the book Knitting for Peace.
