Storm watch makes for a very long weekend...........

Hi my friends.  Here in Florida we are anxiously awaiting monster storm Dorian.  Not quite sure where she is heading, she seems to like to keep us all on our toes.  This past week made all Floridians run to the store for supplies and to fill up our gas tanks just in case.  The poor Bahamas are currently being hit with her relentless winds.  There will be incredible devastation and where she will turn next is anyone's guess.  It makes for a slow weekend, one I needed to be honest.  On Friday I canceled Little Buddy's horse therapy because the drive was just to far to warrant the gas use, at that time many gas stations were running out of gas already.  But now they are open for business but further east that is not the case.  I am not worried about us unless Dorian does some completely wacky thing and turns directly west, but I am concerned about Mr 22, his girlfriend and puppy who are in Orlando and frankly stuck because of work. Hopefully they will come home tomorrow before that side of the state gets high winds and rain.  I am praying she turns east and heads out to sea where she can fizzle out!  She has half the eastern part of the country in a panic.  Please just go away Dorian!

You would think being home would allow me unlimited crochet time, but you know me I am sorting things, cleaning things and trying to take care of more headaches.  Yup that supposed sinus infection that had no symptoms at all does not seem to be the reason I am getting an increase in my migraines.   I am still taking the antibiotic but really it isn't making a difference and I feel I am wasting my time.  I'll have to call back the doctor and see what she wants to do next but last week during storm prep was not the time to call and schedule anything. By the way this is another baby blanket for a new great nephew made with We Are Knitters The Cotton yarn.

I made donuts yesterday.  These are so delicious that I am going to share the recipe with you.  You can buy a doughnut pan at Walmart if you don't already have one.  My friend Lynda in North Carolina made the chocolate version for me and I thought I had died and gone to Heaven.  I can't eat sugar or gluten so these were wonderful because I can eat them.

Lynda's Doughnuts

3 cups of rice flour (or any flour you want to use)
1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1 cup of agave syrup
3 teaspoons of vanilla
3/4 cup of milk
6 Tablespoons of melted butter
* add 9 Tablespoons of cocoa if you want chocolate doughnuts

Mix all ingredients well the batter should be very moist

** add a handful of chocolate chips if you want chocolate chip doughnuts
I use grain sweetened chocolate chips and they are delicious

Spray pan with cooking spray before filling with doughnut batter
scoop batter into a doughnut pan with a spoon smoothing out the top after you are done.

Cook at 325 degrees until slightly brown around the edges
I put them in little bags and freeze them so I can have them for work
Enjoy!

This guy has been enjoying a weekend of slumber parties in my room.  He really wanted to have a slumber party so we have turned it into a whole weekend event.  We have played games, watched TV shows in mom's bed, eaten cupcakes and chips because apparently those are essential for a slumber party.  We have had a wee bit more iPad time than normal because Mom's head hurts and of course we have slept.  He told me there is no sleeping at slumber parties but I quickly put an end to that thought.  He is just so darling sometimes I can't stand it.

And while doing homework yesterday Little Buddy said, "You are one of the greatest moms I ever had."  I take that as a compliment.

Stay safe wherever you are my friends.

I think we are good here on the gulf side, but I’ll feel better when the north turn happens and the science says it will! If not, we will be putting up the shutters fast 🙃

He really is way too adorable, and what a great compliment! I love the colours in that blanket and the donuts look divine. I will pray that Dorian spends most of its energy at sea.
Take care,
Andrea

So sorry to hear that you are still having headaches! Hopefully your doc will figure it out so you can get some relief. Love that LB guy of yours; what a cutie. I, too, hope that Dorian heads way out to sea and soon. Stay safe!

Darn.. I was hoping the antibiotics were going to fix you up.. Hope the doc can figure out what it is. :-(
That blanket is going to be quite a treasure for the new little one. I'm glad you found a donut recipe that works for your food restrictions. We got a pumpkin pie from Costco a few days ago and it's been our dessert in the evenings. I wish I could give that darling boy a hug... You too.
((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Meredith, I'm so, so sorry that you're still having headaches too. I can definitely commiserate with you. Mine are a bit better, but still hanging on. At least after the MRI I know it's nothing serious. I hope you can soon get some relief.

That blanket is gorgeous and the donuts look amazing. I'm surprised you can get so much done while fighting the headaches and taking care of your little guy and the four legged babies too.

I'm praying for all of you in the path of the hurricane. That must be so scary. Take care my friend.
Blessings,
Betsy

Hi Meredith - hope there will be a solution to get rid of your migraines. LB has great big ideas and he is such a love. Bet he tries lots of ideas out to see if they will fly past (like no sleeping at PJ Parties. Keep safe. Hugs.

Sorry to hear that your migraines continue. I think I may have told you that many years ago a friend was going through the same thing. She had so many tests trying to figure out why she was getting them. They even did some crazy spinning inner ear test on her to see if she had liquid somewhere. She moved away and we aren't in touch as often so not sure if she ever was able to figure out how to manage them. I do hope you are able to get relief. I don't get them often but know how it feels when they do come up. No fun at all. I hope Dorian doesn't cause too much damage. So hard to predict what will happen. Unimaginable that the guy in the WH is trying to claim Dorian has history breaking under his watch. He is such a moron. You all take care and stay safe. xoxoxox Tammy

I'm so sorry that you are still struggling with headaches-on top of the headache of dealing with the Dorian pressure!
(have you had your eyes examined--it was the source of my severe headaches a decade ago--acute angle closure glaucoma; doesn't hurt to check it out with an easy exam)
The crochet is so pretty but best of all--you used the down time for Lil Buddy and what a lasting investment that is --it's the best one!)

Oh, yum!!! Those donuts look so good. Now it's all I can think of. I hope Dorian keeps heading out to sea. It must be so scary not knowing where its path will take it. It better not head this way. I've still got trees from Isabelle and Irene to clean up. Lol....Araignee

I was wondering about you with this latest storm development. The changes in air pressure are a recipe for Migraine.

Your blanket looks so soft and calming. It is another lovely creation.

Take care.

It's a worry that the antibiotics don't seem to be reducing your migraines. Maybe that's an indication of some other factor in play? Sometimes drs prescribe for the simplest or most common possible cause - the likelihood of fixing the problem is high but if it isn't fixed simply then the dr can eliminate that theory and start investigating further. Perhaps the intense weather and barometric changes are hindering the effectiveness of clearing your sinus infection. Every day I'm tuned into the international news services hoping you will all be okay. The poor Bahamas. I hope your son can get out of Orlando in time. Perhaps his work will close for the emergency and let people evacuate? Wishing you all the best. Extra hugs for LB for voting you 'one of the best mums' haha his choice of words is so cute. xx

So sorry to hear that you are still having headaches. Could they be allergy related? For years I had super bad headaches (not quite a migraine but almost) and the doctors couldn't figure it out. They had me track every minute of my day, what I ate, what I did, what I came in contact with, places I went..... And eventually I realized it was my mascara. I'm allergic to most brands of mascara! How weird is that??? Hope you can figure out what's causing them without spending a year obsessively scribbling in a little notebook. :)
Take care during Dorian. I'm way up here in Virginia and our stores ran out of bottled water a few days ago. I'm hoping it heads back out to sea without making landfall. ...Although, enough rain and wind next weekend to close the theme park where I work would be appreciated. :)

Stay safe in that storm. Oh, I'm so sorry that the headaches are continuing, I thought you may have had a reason for them and then you could have sorted them out. On the upside, having Little Buddy around certainly gives plenty of reasons to smile, the little things he comes out with really do make me chuckle.

Hoping Dorian turn course and stay away from the coast. I can't imagine the waiting that is involved in something like that. The yarn -- and those -- donuts both look delicious! I'm sorry you are still bothered by the headaches. I've not experienced them myself, but see how debilitating they can be for others. Sending good thoughts your way. That boy of yours is a gem:)

I hope Dorian doesn't come your way and that your son is safe also. I hope that it isn't too intense and doesn't leave too much destruction in its path. There are so many of these storms lately. Lovely blanket I really like the gray and white colors together. Those doughnuts look so good! Enjoy :)

Those donuts look absolutely scrumptious!

So sorry that the headaches are not responding to the abx, Mere. Hope the doctors will be able to pinpoint the source soon. I too wonder if the weather is making it worse.

I've been thinking about you all and hoping the storm will pass you all by. Hugs to you!

Your slumber party sounds like great fun except for the headaches. I so want the headaches to vanish for you and pray that they will and that Dorian will do as you prayed. Thanks for the post and for sharing the recipe, One of the Greatest Moms!xxxxxxx

Little Buddy is so cute, and astute, too. Best mum ever! You sure are. I hope you get to the bottom of your headaches soon. I cannot begin to imagine how you must feel with those constant headaches and migraines. I get weepy when I just have the tiniest of all headaches. Fingers crossed. Also fingers crossed that the storm will turn towards the sea rather than the coastal areas. Hugs to you xx

I have been MIA in blogland a lot lately. Just caught up on your posts. I hope you are feeling better now and I also hope you are safe from Dorian.

Buddy says the funniest things! I'm glad you were safe in the storm. Have you tried the methods for your migraines in the book by The Medical Medium? It really has changed my life. For me, certain foods trigger inflammation: chocolate, milk, baked goods, and more than two cups of coffee. Oh, and more sugar than I can handle. The author gives a lot of great information. He says that the combination of sugar and fat in the blood is what causes most of our aches and pains. Having celery every morning and cilantro in my salads has done so much. You can find samples of his writing on Youtube.

Thank you for the doughnut recipe! My daughter is gluten free and I'm always looking for things I can make for her. We are a little on edge here in NC too because of Dorian. I'm heading to the store tomorrow to stock up and have been praying for those in his path in the Bahamas. I agree with Little B.....you deserve the MOM award for that slumber party while dealing with that head ache!

Im sorry to read you are not better with the antibiotics, boo. I cannot imagine conserving gas and waiting for a storm to hit. We were affected by tropical storm lee (?) and I had no electricity for four days. That felt like a lifetime since my whole house is electric. Your son is growing so much these days!!

Just now seeing your post on Wednesday...I honestly have not caught up with the news in the past 24 hours yet, so I don't know where Dorian is right now. I'm sure it's scary living in a state that's vulnerable to hurricanes.

Could the increase in your migraines be from stress, not an underlying medical issue?
