Hello everyone! I have been a bit busy the last few days, and very tired, so I have been lurking again in blogland. Hope to catch up with all of your happenings this weekend. But for now I wanted to show you my latest finished project. Remember the Keila Top by Handy Kitty? I am finished! The pattern is located on her side bar under crochet.
Here it is, a big drum roll please.
In true Meredith fashion, I kind of winged it on this pattern. The pattern is well written and easy to understand, its just that I have to do things my way, even if it isn't the correct way.
Remember I had the fabric from my first sewing fiasco. I had the yarn already on hand, for once I stash busted!
I sewed the side seams of the fabric kind of how wide I thought the top should be. I put in the elastic in the upper part, and then kind of eyeballed where the hem should be. I also made some revisions on the crochet border around the top and the hem. The original pattern has a scalloped edge around the neckline and also where the crochet attaches to the fabric. I am not really a scallopy girl so I decided to go more with a squared off neckline and border. Simple single crochet for the neck, and a half double crochet and half double crochet chain one for the border. Sorry if you do not speak crochet and I am confusing you.
I also changed the hem, I wanted a cleaner look, no scallops. I kind of messed around until I got this pattern. I sewed it on and it is done! I have never sewed crochet onto fabric with a sewing machine, it was quite daunting at first, but then became very easy to do.
I also decided to insert a little crochet under the arms, I thought it looked kind of funny with the fabric edge showing.
I will have to wear a tank top under this, that is if I ever wear it. You know how I am, it is more about the challenge and the process then the final product for me.
Hope you like it.

Now, that I know you, Mere. I SO can see you in this. Nice and cool for a hot summer in your area. You will need to wear this to the beach. All is well here and we are finally getting back to some normalcy, if that is possible.
Your top is so cute Meredith. I'm so happy for you that it turned out so beautifully.
A little birdy told me that there may be a girls lunch next week in Portland. How about flying up to join us? :-)

Things like this so make me want to learn how to sew but it's just so complicated (and my machine doesn't like me!).

Lovely! Perfect for summer...
This is fantastic - although I agree it would need something underneath if, for me at least!
how long did it take to make?

I really like it, especially the colours...your 'winging it' seems pretty spot on by the looks of it. A friend of mine was talking about making a Top like this about a year ago, I must point her in your direction, perfect for summer!
I think your top is really cute! I hope you do wear it.
Wear it. It's beautiful! You did a great job on it and it will look beautiful on you.

I love it! You did a great job! The colour of the yarn is wonderful xoxo
The top is so so cute and such a nice colour
That is adorable! Oh, I love it. Great job. :)
Cute!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's sooooo beautiful! I'd love to learn sewing too.
that top is impressive Meredith. I like all the tweaking you've done too to the pattern, very personalized. I presume you've used cotton and it looks to me like a number 5 cotton. I must say I like the rose colour and the flimsy material too. I'd wear a little strap top underneath too but it can be of the silky type. This could look very fine. I do hope you are going to wear it ???
keep well
Amanda :-)
Oh Meredith, I think it is so cute! You did a great job! I love seeing something unique and not just a "top". I would wear it proudly. ~ hugs, Patti
Sorry my dear friend. I also have been so very tired and have been sick so I haven't been very good at looking at my favorite blogs. I LOOOOVVVVEEEE this top so much so that I'm going to try to find some fabric and I'm going to make one for me also :) hope you feel renovated soon.
Your top turned out amazing! What a perfect little top for your warm/hot weather down there in Florida. I love it and now that you have taken the plunge and made this one I hope we see more!
