Hearts, hats and more

I have been busy making hearts.  I saw this pattern on Pinterest, which took me to Craftsy, and frankly I am not sure how I found it on that site.  It was designed by Luba Davies.  You can find her on Ravelry here, but this link takes you to her etsy shop and I am not sure where the pattern is on that site.  Lots of help aren't I?

You can whip one of these out in minutes, they are very fun.  I learned the magic loop thingy with this little project.  I have to say I am not that found of that loop at all, but it does make a nice, small center.

I thought I would make little heart pins for teachers and therapists for Valentine's Day.  Make a quick heart, sew on the pin back and there you have it.  A great way to use up stash yarn that is for sure.  I made 15 red hearts and 3 variegated with some old washcloth yarn I had on hand.

I had all the yarn, I had the pin backs, and I had these three key chain holders, so I was out absolutely nothing for this little project, that makes it even better.  I will pin these to a little card with a Valentine's message on it and Little Buddy can take them into school next week.

Speaking of working out of my stash, two more hats were made this week for Taci.  I am going to get these out in the mail today or Monday.  She has already received a few which is so much fun to see.  I think it will be great to see how many people contribute to her project to take hats to Brazil for little ones in need.  Of course it will also be fun to see all the varieties of hats she receives.

Here are my five before they have been packed up.  Hope your heads stay warm little ones.

Look the lettuce is growing in my EarthBox!!  I am so excited things are growing.

My tomato plants are growing, too.  It is so fun to watch.

The strawberries are growing, but not as fast as the others.  I hit the very end of strawberry growing season so we will see how they work out.

Here is my gorgeous Max, deep in thought looking out at the pool.  He is a beauty inside and out.

We have family arriving from Wisconsin today for a few days.  I will pop in when I can to visit.  Now I had better get cleaning!

Your hearts are beautiful! They will be lovely valentines gifts. The hats are so cute too, you are such a fast worker, but not as fast as those lettuces are growing in your boxes! Hope that you have a great time with your visitors. xx

Your hearts are SO cute Meredith. I discovered the magic loop with Teresa's baby hat pattern and really liked it once I used it a time or two. Your hats are really sweet and I know they'll be appreciated. The weather must be fantastic to have your veggies growing so fast. Yum. I enjoy all the different lettuce varieties in my salads. Sweet, sweet Max. I would love to give him a big hug. Enjoy your family Meredith.
Blessings,
Betsy

I have been learning the magic loop too. I am so used to making the chain and then slip stitching which is easier to me but the magic circle does make a nice neat and right hole closure. The hearts you made are very cute! Your veggies are really coming along in your earth boxes. Is that the growing container you drove down near Bradenton to get? We have been talking on how and what we are going to grow this year and how to keep the deer out. Your max is so sweet! I wonder what he thinks about as he gazes out at the pool? Enjoy your weekend!

That sweet Max. He is your constant and everyday Valentine.
Those hearts are going to be perfect gifts and the hats, so special.
I can't believe the veggie explosion. How fun is that! I think I'd be trotting out three times a day just to tell them what a great job of growing they are doing.
Have a wonderful time with your visitors. Coming from Wisconsin at this time of year will be such a weather change. They may want to move in.
xoxo, Ellen.

I love your posts Meredith. Your heart gifts will be appreciated and cherished. I still hang handcrafted Christmas ornaments from as far back as 38 years ago from my students on our FUN tree.Adding your child's name is very meaningful too if you can.

Those hearts are gorgeous! I am sure that those hats will keep some little bitty heads nice and warn. I guess I don't know much about Brazil. Those grow boxes are very interesting. It looks like your plants are off to a great start. Does Max know that his space is about to be invaded? He had better get some rest now. I bet LB will be over the moon with all the attention. Have fun with your Wisconsin guests,

I have been making those same hearts! They are quick and fun to make. I love seeing your plants grow. I bought some seeds today but it'll be a while before we can think about gardening. Everything is covered in snow and more is on its way tonight.

The hearts are darling, and I LOVE the magic loop method. I always use it, even with thread doilies to begin. It helps if your fingers and hands are comfortable holding that circle open. I stick my middle and pointer fingers of my left hand through the loop from the back (spread those two fingers to hold the loop open taught, and hold the tail of yarn down with my thumb against that pointer finger. Does that make sense? Then everything is stable and taut while I'm crocheting through the loop with my right hand. Your lettuce has grown an amazing amount! Very cool!

I am celebrating your first momentous year with Little Buddy in your home full time, Meredith, and I am admiring the hats and hearts and plants that are growing in your midst as well.
While I still have to look up how to do it every time I use it, I like the ability the magic loop gives you to make a small hole in the center of a motif, too.
Hugs to you and special love pats to your dear, Max.
ps. I love knowing that you found a feather at this time even if it is not from an eagle. Some of the menfolk in our household saw a bald eagle fly over our home and land in one of our trees recently. So exciting!!! xx

You are so sweet to make such sweet hearts for Little Buddy to give to his teachers. I just love wearing my heart brooch this time of year and never go out without one on. I'm very impressed with your little garden. I announced today that I am going to grow my own zucchini this summer by golly! Give Max and stroke and air kiss from his friend in Oregon. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Your little hearts are sweet and your little boys teachers are sure to be delighted with such thoughtful gifts. The crochet hats look wonderful. I am relatively new to the world of crochet and being self taught have to look to you tube vids for each stitch but I don't mind the magic loop (still need the vids to do it though lol). Congrats on your little salad garden I am impressed sadly I am not green fingered and every year my salad leaves bolt which never ceases to amaze me as living in Scotland, sunshine is a rare commodity over here! Very cute hearts! Such a nice idea to give them to the teachers and therapists - I am sure they will feel very happy to receive such a thoughtful and handmade gift :-) Here in Germany it is unusual to give gifts to teachers and such but I really like the idea!

Take care

Lovely hearts Meredith. I have been looking up heart patterns, too. I found one for a 3D knitted one here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/love-hearts in case you want to make more. Your vegetables and strawberries are growing fast! Growing season is still a long way away here. Enjoy the family visit. xx

You amaze me with all the crocheting you do lately. I've not been too creative lately. Unenergized is me. Your hearts and hats are adorable. I am thinking about gardening but can't plant right now since it is cold here in OR! It will be spring soon though! Have a good week!

Such sweet little hearts. I can't believe you haven't used the magic loop before now ... you expert crocheter you! I like to make my magic loops in the opposite direction (if that makes sense), so that I can have the yarn tail coming towards my stitches rather than away from them. It seems more secure somehow.

Great little hats, and exciting growing things! Have a great week. :)

The hearts are lovely and will make such great gifts. I don't like using the magic loop either and try to avoid it! Your wee hats are great - I've started making some too.

Nice to see anything growing...it's under a few feet of snow here. Isn't that cool?

I love your hearts...I've seen them put together in a little banner which is really cute. I did attempt them last year...but it just didn't turn out like a heart...odd shaped circles anyone?

Your hearts and hats are all beautiful, Meredith. I have trouble with the magic loop, I don't think I do it right. But it looks so nice when it's done correctly by others. I hope you're having a nice visit with your family.
