One done and two to go...............

First off I hope you are all staying warm and inside during the Polar Vortex that is charging across the country.  We are a bit chilly here but I will take it, no freezing temps and deadly wind chills.  Stay safe my friends.

Baby blanket # 1 is done.  It is for a boy as you recall. This was made with Berroco Modern Cotton in the colors Toverton (darker gray) and Gadwall (silverish gray).  I am loving this blanket.  Berroco Modern Cotton, while a bit splitty makes a great baby blanket.  It is sturdy and washable, as baby blankets need to be.  I used a size I hook and five total skeins of yarn, approximately 1,000 yards to make this blanket.  A 14 stitch ripple, with 8 repeats, making it 34 x 33 in, a perfect size.  I also bought a few sweet gray baby clothes to complete the gift.  I hope the new parents will like it.  Now onto # 2!

I popped by the yarn store last Thursday to pick up my missing skein of yarn and to buy more yarn for blanket # 3.  Number 2 is for Little Buddy's medical foster parents daughter, she is having a little girl in June.  You might remember he was in her wedding a few years back.  They are the loveliest of people and took great care of Little Buddy when he was in desperate need.  That is where I started working with him and fell in love with him.  If you are new to this blog you can read his story here.

Blanket # 3 is for my soon to be great niece, also due in June.  I love this color combination don't you?  This will be the third baby blanket for this family, I am not sure if they need it or not but I always make one for every new member of my family.  Every new baby needs something handmade with love don't you think?

Last Sunday we were a bit housebound as it was raining like crazy and very chilly out, well chilly for Florida.  We were all a bit stir crazy, I think we are used to being on the move.  My photos were not loading onto my computer from my phone for some reason, so I spent the afternoon frantically crocheting, with a fire on and the fur boys by my side, not blogging as I usually do on Sundays.

There might also have been face haircuts, which you can see by this photo were not appreciated.

There might also have been several Grace and Frankie episodes watched, tea drank and lots of snuggling with two fur babies and their not so snugly seven year old brother, who had more important things on his mind then a cuddle.

I am off  now to get ready for a routine colonoscopy tomorrow.  I am not happy about this procedure, but I am 54 and it needs to be done.  Wish me luck!

Oh Meredith. You have my sympathies on the colonoscopy. As you know I’ve had two of those in the last 2 1/2 months. The procedure itself is no big deal, it’s just that nasty prep.
The boys do look happy to have everybody home with them during the chilly weather. And those baby blankets will be gorgeous. I always like the ripple pattern and that purple and gray will be so pretty together. Perfect for a little girl. And I agree with you, every new baby deserves to have something handmade with love.
Many blessings my friend,
Betsy

Sumptious blankets made with sumptious yarn! Beautiful colours too. I have just finished watching the latest season of Grace and Frankie. I love it so, even with all the cussing!! They breeze through the acting, don't they, although I though that perhaps Fonda had some trouble with her hip at times and also had expertly airbrushed shots too!! It's very, very cold and icy here. We're just waiting on the snow to come. Have a great weekend, Meredith, despite the colonoscopy but as you say, it's necessary.Good Luck.xxx

Those photos made me smile. The blanket is gorgeous, and I really love your choice of yarn colours. Sunday sounds lovely, a perfect afternoon of crochet and curling up on the sofa, wonderful. Good luck tomorrow. Sadly we're not offered routine things like that here. CJ xx

Hello Meredith.. I've been missing you! Bravo on your blanket finish.. you are so fast! Your color choices are very chic and lovely, I know each blanket will be loved and treasured for years. I love seeing your big curly, furry darlings! They crack me up! My new pup is so little compared to them. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and get lots of time for making blankets. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

All the boys are so cute!! Just keep in mind that when nothing comes back suspicious you will have 10 years before another colonoscopy! That is the only good news. No really the prep is worse then the procedure. Hugs!

Mere---I feel for you on the colonoscopy. I'm so afraid and my doctor keeps trying to push me. And I'm 58! My husband had his first 6 years ago, he had a cancerous tumor that was huge and that has led us on a never ending journey. You would think that would spur me to go. No. I've heard the fasting and enemas are no longer a part of the prep, thank God. I pray you have a smooth and positive procedure and one day...I will.

Love the pics of your pooches, they look so huggable. The gray and white blanket is so spot on. I've been going to so many baby showers and for boys, the registry is a lot of gray...and elephants!!

Thanks for your comment. And 41 degrees IS cold. We get that in the spring and fall and we are total babies!! Right now...space heaters and every throw and quilt we can find!!!

Hugs to you and yours,

Jane

Hopefully the procedure is over and all is well. The blanket is beautiful and I love the yarn you have chosen for the other on, stunning colour combination. Made with love, so the perfect gift. I popped back to read Little Buddy's story once again and shed a tear or two. What a joy you have bought to each other lives, you are both blessed. A delight to see your furry boys.

I love that photo of your son holding that huge fur baby Meredith wow they have grown so much The blanket is beautiful and will be loved, as will the others that you are about to make, my favourite combo is the one for blanket 3 just love those colours together now you've got me thinking. Good luck with the colonoscopy it's not a very pleasant procedure we don't get them as routine here but I did have one a few years back and didn't like it at all. have a great weekend. :) xx

It's so thoughtful of you to make baby blankets for everyone. My second son (the middle child) got a lot of hand-me-downs from his brother, of course, and then when our girl came along, everything was brand new. So, he never got a handmade blanket like the other two had. Until a friend of mine remedied it and made him the most beautiful blanket when he was about 8 years old, so he could have one of his own. He was so pleased, haha! Hope all went/goes well with the colonoscopy. I've had two of them, and my experience was that the anticipation was worse than the prep or the procedure. And it felt great to have it all behind me. Hope it's the same for you:)

I just read Little Buddy's story. such is the stuff of heroes. and to see that fight for life and the sheer desire to live makes me speechless. how wonderful that he completes your family. aren't trite adjectives irritating? I wish I could just say that you ALL simply SHINE! there are rays of pure love and sunlight all around you! and on the days that are hard because of exhaustion or illness or the myriad things that can happen... that light is still there! and shining brighter than ever. oh. and the knitting is beautiful too! LOL!
and you will never be old. nor will your husband. you both already have the secret to Agelessness. hard to say that word. but it means a love for LIFE! and the hearts that know how to share that. and such beautiful sons! it's only going to be ever better and better. even your puppies know it! XOXOXO

Great finish on the first blanket and I love the choices for the next few!
It will satisfy that creative itch but still be an easy project to carry with you!!! Yes, we've done a lot of 'sit by the fire' days, too.

I hope your colonoscopy went well and that the discomfort as not too bad. Your baby blanket is lovely, the colours will match any baby outfit and it looks so cosy, too. You are right, every baby needs something handmade with love. Such a lovely thought to take away from my visit today. It is a shame there are no babies on the horizon here. Have a wonderful weekend. xx

Good luck with the colonoscopy - they are yucky!

You got a giggle out of me, looking at those unappreciative but adorable faces. You definitely captured the sentiment in that photo.

Last week we had record temperatures of 47C (117F) and it has been the warmest January ever. Now your country is on the flipside getting temps of -49C (-56F).

Yet there are politicians and others who have a lot of influence who avoid responsibility by not acknowledging climate change. Go visit some islands in the pacific to see whether global warming and sea level rise is real. Go to the poles and see how the ice is melting.
But "climate change is not real" (sarcastic eye roll).

At least you and I have the power of being able to make warm things like your beautiful baby blankets to survive the cold!

How exciting to have three babes in one year. Baby crochet is always filled with anticipation and love, don't you think? I agree with you that each little one needs the love of something handmade. xx

Thanks for the link to Buddy's story. I can't remember seeing his baby photo. He is so lucky to have you all in his life, including the dogs of course.

Hope all went well for you Meredith. Your boys look delightful as usual, their cheeky faces are sweet. Your blanket looks great, you are right about every baby needing one. In de-cluttering this week, I found the 2 blankets (one a fine knit lacy circular and the other a crocheted square) that were for when teen 1 was a baby. Sadly I never kept the suit I knitted him - a matinee coat, hat, mittens & boots but... anyway you can't keep everything. Teen 2 used everything from his brother, so that was good. Take care Cathy x

I'll be 53 at the end of this month, but have not even thought about getting a colonoscopy. My husband turned 60 last month and has had a couple, mainly because of fissures and hemorrhoids which he had surgery for a year ago. Pretty sure he's done with having doctors messing with his backside. :) Love the use of gray in your beautiful baby blankets. When I've made blankets for co-workers in the past who may have moved on from the school, they would send pictures of their toddlers still carrying around their baby blankets which is always heartwarming to see. Have a good Sunday!

Your crocheted baby blankets are so pretty. Can't wait to see the purple and grey one. Glad you stayed warm in the cold weather. May get snow on Monday but not sure. I still have blankets from when our kids were babies. Some I gave away to our son for our grandchildren. May just give them away. Hope your colonoscopy goes well. I need one this year too. Enjoy your week and thanks for your comments on my blog.

I hope your colonoscopy went well. You definitely need to do it! It is horrible, though -- the prep that is.

I think it's hilarious that anyone would stay inside in Florida, but I am certainly stir crazy from the past week so I'm not sure I'd recognize funny!

I agree that every baby deserves something handknit with love. You are so sweet to make so many blankets. I find them tedious -- but they are great gifts!

Yes, all little babies need their own handmade blankie! Love the colors of the blankets in waiting and the one you've just completed. Good old ripple...always a pleaser. OH.....IO

The blanket is beautiful...and yes, I love that purple and gray combo.

Our polar vortex is over, thank God. -50 (with the wind chill) was horrible. I stayed housebound pretty for several days last week. It's much warmer now (in the 40's ABOVE zero!) but it's rainy, so it's still just plain ol' yucky out there.

Hope all went well with your colonoscopy. I'm 56 and haven't had one, though my doctor bugs me about it every year. We have no colon cancer in our family, though I know that's not a good excuse. My husband has had several colonoscopies as his dad had stage 4 colon cancer and I've seen what he's had to go through with the prep...and that's what has made me procrastinate.

Ooh, loving that baby blanket and the yarn combos for the next ones - especially the lilac and taupe (or is it rose and grey? Either way, so soft and pretty together).

I've never had a colonoscopy, but I know all about the prep. Hope it went okay. Mr. M went the Cologuard route last time, and it was a breeze in comparison.

Have a great week!
