With all the horrific news out there this week I am trying to find something positive to think about. Not the lies and the ridiculous statements by the presenters at the Republican Convention, boy there were some massive ones weren't there? The blatant disrespect of using federal property for campaign purposes. The 180,000 people dead of Coronavirus in this country alone, although the real number is more likely 60,000 more but our government is just pretending that it isn't really happening anymore. More horrific police shootings, a vigilante Trump follower that killed two people and maimed another. Fires in California, a hurricane that caused so much damage including loss of life, protests that turn into riots, well it has been a lot. So today I am going to try and think about some nice things that have happened.
This little Boy has had a very good first week of third grade. These were the photos of him before his first day of school. He is adapting, keeping his mask on, and really trying to pay attention and do what is asked of him. There are currently 16 children in his class, there will be more when the Coronavirus stops impacting so many. There are already many confirmed cases of students in my county, I expect that number to rise the next few weeks. Still he has almost made it though the school week and I am proud of him.
My wonderful blogging friend Sue Perez of Mr Micawber's Recipe for Happiness has a new book out. My, oh my, I have been waiting for this book. Sue is a brilliant designer and has been featured in many magazines. She has brilliant tutorials on her blog and makes the most interesting projects. I have made many of her designs but my all time favorite is the Olive Twist Shawl which you can find on this link. As soon as I saw that Sue's book was completed I immediately ordered it from Amazon. It arrived yesterday and I can't wait to sit down with a cup of tea and really look it over. Congratulations to Sue for an amazing accomplishment! I am in awe of your amazing achievement, talent and persistence.
These boys were not happy with me today as they had to get shots and Hank had to get that heavy duty ear medication again. While this isn't super positive it did make me laugh. These boys are petrified of car rides. They would not let the vet attendant walk them into the office unless I was right next to them and then I had to shut the door behind them and walk back to my car. They were thrilled to make it back into the dreaded car for the ride home, and ran all over once they got here. You would have thought they had been gone for days. They make me laugh these boys of mine.
Some new yarn might have found its way into my home these past few weeks. Malabrigo for a sweater and Berroco Corsica for a shawl. Mind you I have not even had a second to crochet a stitch in the past two weeks, yet I have visions of a new sweater, shawl and am thinking about making my boys and their partners new blankets for their apartments. Where I will find the time for these projects I have no idea. I better get more yarn to make these wild dreams come true. I am thinking giant cream and gray granny squares................. What do you think?
I will leave you with this big third grader who thought he looked pretty cute in his mask today. He is having trouble because the masks made of material slip down his cute freckled nose and the paper ones fog up his glasses. We will find one that works eventually.
Stay safe my friends. In a week like we have had the best thing we can do is not believe lies, not fall for fear tactics that are not even true, follow the facts, wear masks, be kind and stay safe.

Thanks for sharing your feelings regarding the blatant disregard of the Hatch Act. I called and emailed my republican Senator simply asking what words he would use if the situation were reversed. He's not in Washington so has plenty of time on his hands to respond to my call and email. I won't hold my breath waiting for a response. Buddy is a cutie and enjoy watching his progress. I am starting another granny square blanket which, at this point in my life, I simply do not need, just looking for some mind numbing distractions from the S show in Washington. It seems to me that the current occupant of the White House is not aware that he is the President of the United States and has to blame everyone else. He loves the color of money and is obsessed with it. Doesn't care about the virus. Simply amazing. We must keep focused on voting and do as much as we can. So another week has come to an end in America.

Your little man is getting so tall and strong! I hope school stays safe for him. I'm also impressed with Sue's book. None of our dogs liked going for rides but Mocha is totally enthralled with it and when she sees me get my purse she starts barking to tell me she wants to go with us. It's hilarious. LOVE the new yarn, especially the colors in the top one. I'm with you on being disgusted with the DNC "Turnip Show". I cannot wait until we can erase us from our consciousness. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
Buddy is so cute! I love his mask. Glad to hear that you got the dogs vaccinated. I need to update Lula's, too. She loves to ride in the car. I wonder why yours don't? They are so expressive...
All of your boys look so cute. I'm glad that LB wears his mask without much of an issue. So many littles refuse to wear them. Apparently there are several students and teachers in quarantine in the school Mandy works at. At this rate she doesn't expect in person classes to last long.
Chloe is terrified of the car. She pants the entire time. I think it's from being thrown out of the car on the freeway as a puppy but who really knows what they're thinking? We take her when we have to, like on camping trips, but I always feel bad.

Little Buddy looks adorable in his mask, and in the top photos too. I'm glad school is going well for him so far. Big grey and cream squares sound lovely, squares are my favourite thing for quilts and blankets. I hope you find some crochet time soon. Well done pups on getting your vaccinations. Bertie has his scheduled for next week and in a cruel twist of fate he is also due at the groomers a couple of days before. Hard to say which he loathes the most. He starts shaking the minute he realises he is going to the vets and sits down on the pavement and refuses to take another step. I end up carrying him the last 50m to both appointments. Glad to see you have projects queued and that you are excitedly waiting to start them....I'm sludging through a project, just because I have some yarn and this pattern worked. Knitting from the stash is not all that much fun. Never thought I'd say it...but I'm sort of wishing my stash wasn't quite so big!!!! (heehee...if you believe that one, there is a bridge you might be interested in..... just saying!)
I always get a smile on my face when I see a post in my email from Mere! it means pictures of Little Buddy and Hank and Bear! (and YES! those eyelashes!)
and in spite of all the bad news you never fail to lift my spirits. I try anyway to keep them pretty lifted... but I LOVE seeing a favorite little third grader and his grin and his furry buddies! it makes up for all the disgusting and frightening news!

LB looks so grown up I'm glad his first week at school has gone well for him and I hope it continues to be safe, he's so good to wear his mask many kids refuse to he looks so cute and those eyelashes are amazing. I had to laugh when I read about Hank and Bear, at least it's all over and done with haha. I LOVE that Malabrigo yarn and can't wait to see what you make with it, cream and grey look lovely together, I love the circle in a square granny pattern and I'm sure I made a blanket like that, alternating grey with cream and it looked really effective. I am trying to avoid the news this week because my blood pressure can't take much more. Our R governor decided just a few days before school was supposed to open schools for face to face learning which is a complete about face from just a week ago. I was very happy to see the individual counties call it out as a political stunt and stick to their original plans of starting the year online. We are adding about 30 cases a day in the 0-9 age group and that's without school open. Add that to the news from the Cedar Sinai report that autopsies are showing that folks with no symptoms and those with mild cases are showing considerable heart damage from the virus. I really don't think we know what we are dealing with yet and this push to normalize is just insane.
Just look at your big boy as he enters third grade!!! I’m so glad the first week of school went well.

Since falling down the cross stitch rabbit hole, I have been purchasing charts, floss and fabric. Stocking up as we don’t know what the next few months will bring, and anything that keeps us sane is okay with me :-)

Glad Little Buddy is doing well in his first week of school, it's a lot. It's a lot for us to take in, how much more for a child. That looks a wonderful book. I have become hooked on, Tinna Podcast, Mosaic Crochet. I love the Cable Crochet look too. I indulged in yarn buying, I'm ready for a hibernating winter. Glad to hear LB's first week of school went well. Let's hope it continues to go that way and that a rise in COVID doesn't happen in his school. Most districts here are doing remote learning.
I'm so sick and tired of all the bad news lately, that I'm staying away from it. I took the FB app off my phone, so I only go on if I'm on my laptop. And even then, I'm keeping it super brief. When I scroll past news articles, unless it's something I feel REALLY compelled to read, I pass on by. I just can't handle any more negativity right now.

I wear glasses and when I started in the OR, I had such a problem with fogging up! Learned to smooth mask down the sides of my nose and put glasses over smoothed down mask. Never had another problem and I wore them daily for 37 years.

I'm so glad the first week of school was a good one. Maybe in some ways it is better that the class is smaller -- fewer chances for something to spread. He looks awfully happy and very cute indeed. I know that has to be very worrying for you -- for any parent. I'm glad it went well.
As for the rest -- well, don't start me. I think the whole country will have high blood pressure by November.

I think the less time I have to knit, the more yarn I buy. It's like the purchasing compensates for the lack of crafting!
It's great to hear the LB is doing well with virtual learning. My students start next Tuesday, and I feel like my school isn't really ready. I have seven freshmen (out of a caseload of 15), so I've been zooming with families and focusing on starting IEP paperwork.
When I first opened this post, I thought LB had "Mere Knits" on his t-shirt. That seemed a little odd...until I figured it out!

I'm glad your knitting and crochet gives you a sense of peacefulness . I'm cooking and reading my brains out. Little Buddy is right up there with his classmates. I was feeling him in having his glasses fogged up. I wear contacts but more often glasses lately. I have the same foggy prob. I recently saw on Facebook a solution. The gal sewed a button on the upper part of the mask high on where her nose is. Her glasses balance on that and over the button a bit above her nose and give a bit of air that makes it hard to fog up. I have some fabric masks coming and I'm going to give it a try.
My Layla has chronic yeast ear infections. I like the months meds. Hope your pup heals well. ❤️

I had to laugh at your descriptions of your boys visit to the vet...gentle giants and a bit chicken when it comes to a jab or two...ha! ha! I'm still trying to figure out how his orthodox Jewish daughter was carrying a Christian bible in her handbag to hand him so he could have an impromptu walk across the street to a church for a photo-op holding up her bible - and how *his* military police were right there to attack peaceful protesters who were in his pathway to the church bulletin board - and his military helicopter above the street to blow peaceful protesters out of his way!!!
Barr was there - so was a military guy in uniform!!! They just happened to be there for trump's off-the-cuff stroll, bible in hand from his orthodox Jewish daughter's handbag - she was wearing a black mask, at least.
