Hi Everyone, it is sooooo good to be home. Thank you so much for your positive words, positive swim thoughts and your friendship.
This swim meet was really big. The Y Nationals was made up of Y's from 19 states, 143 teams and 1400 swimmers. It was held at Georgia Tech in Atlanta. Beautiful pool and a great swim meet. I think your thoughts worked as my son did very well, not as good as he had hoped but still very good.
Here he is before he went to warm up for the 200 IM final. He placed 4th and had a great personal best time. He also made a US National Qualifying Time, which is his first.
My Son ready to swim the 100 Fly, not his best event, but he placed 11th, with a great time. When he hit the wall on the other side of the pool he was in 6th place, he swam so well he ended up winning this heat.
Here he is with his very best friend. (My son is on the left). They had just placed 5th in the 400 Medley Relay, my son swam the breast stroke portion. He is showing us his medal. So all in all he had three really good individual swims, two great relay swims, and one that was a big disappointment for him. But that is life isn't it? I was so thrilled to see him starting to believe in himself again. I was so thrilled to see his hard work starting to pay off and I was so thrilled to see this.
A coach that loves him, treats him with respect and who he has an amazing relationship with. What more could you ask for?
This is finished project number one for the trip. You guessed in Malabrigo, a treble stitch cowl.
This color is even better in person if you can imagine that.
A lovely lace scarf made from 50% wool and 50% silk from Steam Vally Fiber. I bought this yarn ages ago at the New York Sheep and Wool Festival. I made a tank top from it that didn't work out well, after using up the rest of the skein I am now ready to rip apart that tank and make something else. Love the feel of this yarn and the colors, all I can say is go buy some right now
And last but not least the same pattern in my favorite Cascade Echo Duo. I know I am loving a lot of yarn lately but that is the way it is. I took yarn that would make me happy both visually and tactile-wise. I knew I was going to be really stressed, so the need for comfort was big in picking out my projects.
Not a great picture with grey pavers in the background. Just know this, I have made what feels like a ton of projects with this yarn, in fact in this very color and I still want to make more. Which is why I started another scarf in this on the way home today.
Hope everyone had a great week. It will take me a while to catch up in blog land, I'll be visiting you soon.

Congratulations to you son- that is fantastic news!!
And you must be so happy with the coach issue
I recognise that Cascade echo :)
I'm about to put mines on to go for a walk.
*C*O*N*G*R*A*T*U*L*A*T*I*O*N*S*!* to your son! I'm so happy he's rebounding from the "bad coach" days. It's SO important to get back on the horse when you get thrown - and he did that and is having success.. BRAVO.. and I have to say, he's really handsome! :-)
Love your projects too.. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
I'll start with the swimmer.... I can smell the clorine now. I was a flyer too back in the day. I can always tell a good swimmer by the smile on their face and the charm in their heart. There is something about a swimmer that makes them so different than a runner. And swimmers really don't like to run. In face, I'm craven' a lap or two in a pool right now. Who am I kidding... a float or two now.
Great fun to have some beautiful yarn to work with during all those heats.
Welcome home.
Congratulations! I can't even swim at all, so I'm in awe. Great job! Lovely yarn, too, for the mom who sits in the bleachers making scarves. :)
Congratulations to your son...nothing better
Good for the new coach
Hugs x
Congratulations, Meredith! I know you are a proud Mom now ;)
Love the scarves, especially the one in grey. So very stilish, I'd definitely wear it!
Hugs,
Monica xo
How wonderful, congrats to your son for a job well done! Now crochet--- as you know I'm getting ready. I see these cowls and your flowers in my future. I hope! :)
Awesome, AWESOME news! The love we mothers have for our children is beyond measure and when they are hurting or scared or struggling it might just as well be happening to us! No, not true...it's WORSE than if it was happening to us! I'm loving all those gorgeous cowls! I made a few and then became distracted with other things! I'm still making reindeer presently...the cowl phase will return, I just know it! Hugs to you! And thank you for your comments...it's nice to know someone is out there in blog world! Annette
And P.S. - that son of yours is adorable!
Such great news about your son! And what a good looking young man, I might add. It's so great to hear of his success after the hard work he and decisions he has made. I so admire swimmers, as I've never been very good at it myself.
Your son looks so happy, that is just fantastic! So glad he did well, it must have been great to be there to support him. And you had a few wins with your projects too, by the looks of it!
Congratulations to your son! Awesome, wonderful news. :)
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so glad he's found such a great swimming "home!" And those sound like pretty impressive results to me!
Hi Meredith,
I am so glad to hear your son had a great meet. I was a swimmer in highschool, a breastroker. So glad to hear he had some personal bests. And your scarves look sooo lovely! How many people asked what you were making?
xo Susan
Hey Meredith. Sound like a great meet! And so happy to hear he has been blessed with a new amazing coach. So awesome! Thanks for your comment today. I am super excited to share what I learned in my beginning spinning class. You never know... Spinning may be your new favorite thing. :)
It sounds like a great tournament. I'm glad to hear that things went well.
Lovely needlework Meredith, as always. You're pretty amazing, you know.
I am so glad your son is happy with swimming again! Great job at the meet!
I also love your cowls... boy, I do need to get back in track to start some Christmas presents too!

Looks like the swimming was a lot of fun. Love the treble stich crochet pieces. Lovely colours too.
Congratulations to your son. It sounds like both of you had a great time in Atlanta. Lovely cowls- I think they are both practical and becoming.
