Friday

Just to get you a bit up to speed on the happenings or lack of happenings at my end of blog land.
In the mail today I received these fun crochet books from Amazon.  I looked, and looked and looked in my area for Crochet Bouquet and couldn't find it so had to order it.  I usually try to visit my local bookstore or yarn store for books, but as I said they didn't have it.  So while I was ordering these other two popped up and well, they were on sale, can you blame me?  I have just taken a quick peek but so far I am really impressed with 200 Crochet Flowers, Embellishments and Trims.
My MIL is here visiting this week.  She is 93 1/2 and pretty amazing.  I took her to Joann's for some yarn on Monday and she is knitting up a scarf.  I taught her how to knit when she was 85.  I have had some time to sit and chat with her so I am working on my crochet sweater/vest/whatever it turns out to be project.  16 squares completed and 96 to go.....that is if I have enough yarn.
Each square is 3 inches wide.  You can tell this is going to be a long project.  I am going to try and just look at the new books without letting all those fun flowers grab my attention.  I will not crochet a new flower, I will not crochet a new flower.  Hurry someone hide all my cotton yarn!

Hope your week was fabulous and that your weekend is even better.

Those are good books. I have the 1st and 3rd one. Don't believe I have seen the one in the center before but it has been awhile since I have visited Amazon....ya go there looking for one book and come out with several....love it though. Have a good visit with your MIL, amazing that she has learned to knit in her later years, just goes to show you that you are never to old to learn something new. Enjoy your weekend.

I have a feeling that some time before the weekend is over you will have crocheted a flower.

I'm trying to resist buying two particular books at the moment. They are so tempting! I can completely understand your desire to dig in to your new "toys" :) In the mean time, it sounds like you have your work cut out for you with all of your tiny squares. Best of luck!

I've NEVER met a new crochet book that can't distract me from my current project! What's wrong with a little flower? It's maybe half an hour out of your world. C'mon! LOL Be strong, if you dare! Hugs, Annette

I'm pretty sure you're going to end up crocheting a new flower... ;) Lovely about your mother-in-law, learning to knit at 85! Well done for teaching her, too. I'm looking forward to seeing your big completed granny project, 96 squares from now.

I'm impressed that your MIL learned to knit at the age of 85. I tried many years ago and just couldn't get the hang of it. I much prefer crocheting and am still such a novice. Not every pattern works out for me. And I definitely don't have the attention span for long term projects. Do you know how many granny squares I've made for a variety of different projects that just never get done? Those books look fantastic. I would not be able to resist picking one up and starting something new. Enjoy visiting with your MIL. It's great when you have yarn and creating in common. Best wishes, Tammy

How totally inspirational your MIL is - just goes to show it's never too late to learn a new skill.Good for her. Your new vest looks amazing and I love the colours.I love all of your new books. My local library has a great selection but the downside is, you have to give them back!Have a good weekend, Meredith.

Oh wow...new crochet books. I love it. I still prefer having nice, shiny pattern books over e-patterns.

Love the new project, and can't wait to see it finished.

Wow, your MIL is 93. That's great, and you taught her to knit when she was 85...amazing. I'll have to tell Michael's 84 yr old aunt. She resists learning new crochet techniques saying that you can't teach old dogs new tricks. That's just not true.

I hope you have a great weekend.

Responding to your comment on my blog:

Stephanie has a new book? I didn't know that. I'll have to check out the bookstore later today.

Oh, yes...but, it's been out for quite awhile. This was the second time I had read it.

Now, it is ready to go to another person for them to read. I'll be having a give-away at the end of the month.

The books look great, as do your squares! Maybe you need to bargain with yourself - for every 5 squares, you can make a flower (or something!)

It's terrible, isn't it? The desire to try something new when we already have 3 other projects going on (I'm talking about myself, of course!). I always dread and at the same time dream about going to my local yarn shop, D.Julia is such a sweet lady and has the most beautiful (and tempting!) novelties... I just can't resist! Bad girl ;)
Hope your weekend is being fantastic!
