All is not perfectly rosy here in crochet land. I am working on my crochet sweater/vest/what ever it is going to turn out to be project. And after really, and I mean really looking at the pattern I have decided I have a bit of a counting issue. You see I was crocheting away thinking I had 112 squares total to make. After much deliberation I decide to make the back a bit larger so that added 8 squares, 120 total. Great!
I have 40 completed squares so I am good to go, right? Hmm......something still seems a bit off. Actually I think I am a bit off as I was not calculating for my size at all. I am not petite, actually I am quite tall. And even if I am not big chested I have broad shoulders. Time for more calculations I think.
Lets take a second to gaze at the beautiful tulips on my table because I think my blood pressure is about to seriously rise.
The back should have 45 squares, and each side 54 which is a whopping total of 153. 153!!!!! That is a big difference from 120, really what was I thinking?
Let's all take a deep breath, and maybe a few more.
The question is do I have enough yarn? Remember I have had to double the yarn to get the right gauge...... This will either be a brilliant project or a colossal waste of time. I guess we will see what happens.
By the way Max and I are totally safe from Mr or Mrs Alligator, you don't need to worry. I would never let Max be the alligator's lunch.
I will be at my son's swim meet this weekend so no blogging for me. If you have some spare positive thoughts, could you send them his way? Thanks, and I hope you all have a safe and beautiful weekend.

Hello you!
You know, I usually crochet in the evening when Brooklyn is back home with her parents and life is a little calmer. But, I've caught myself, more than once, yelling to my husband, "Don't talk to me now, I'm counting"! I usually lose count anyway but what are you gonna do, right?
I've never tried a project as big as yours though; sizing is tricky!

You're so ambitious, and what you have so far looks terrific. This will be a brilliant project when it's done.
You might have to intersperse a few quick, instant gratification-type projects along the way as you plug along on the squares! I envy your persistence!
I can not be of any help in that department. I am quite the novice, so all I can do is cheer you on! From what I have seen you are very good at this kind of thing so I am sure it will be perfect when you get done! Can you hear the "cheering"?? ~Hugs, Patti
That is ALOT of squares! But what beautiful colors! Cheering on your son in the swim meet.
You are just plain brave to crochet a garment for yourself. My worst story is I knitted a poncho in handspun (by me) alpaca and I don't know where it is and I never wore it. LOL! Have fun over the weekend and good luck to your son! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
I think your doing great with it so far are you able to buy any more wool to help finish it off? Good luck at the weekend, and have fun, dee x
Oh dear...when I'm way into a project and start to worry about the amount of yarn I have vs. what I might need...well that can cause a tight sphincter.
There...I made you giggle!
153? WHAT WERE YOU THINKING????? Hey, the way I look at it...you're either hooking on another project or this one...it's all the same...HOOKING! There are many in the world who WISH they knew how to do what you know how to do...so find your joy and keep plugging along. Think how FAB you'll feel when you put that beauty around your shoulders and hear all the ooooooh and aaaaaaahs from all the jealous folks who wish they could and can't.
It will be a brilliant project- I have no doubt of that!!!
Wowwwww, so much ???
Good luck :-)

I know I wouldn't count write, but even if what you are working on doesn't work out, those squares can be used for so many other projects. Crochet work is never, ever wasted, right! Good luck to your son! I was on the high school swim team but hated making those turns under water. I always got water up my nose no matter what which is why I eventually quit. :/ Best wishes, Tammy
Wishing him no false starts and awesome finishes.
Good luck to your son. Where are you competing this week?
Good luck to you with your squares!
Sometimes I wish I could have back all the hours I have spent crocheting and then ripping it apart because of both miscounting and miscalculating. I can recall being on a last row and not having enough yarn to finish...it was NOT a good day.
(((HUGS))) Susanne :(
Frogging is certainly no fun and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this isn't a waste of time. It certainly is a beautiful start, no matter the end result!
I know your project will be brilliant.
Have fun this weekend and I hope your son does really well at his meet.

Beautiful tulips!
Oh dear...I hope you get the counting thing figured out for your vest. I love the colors!!
Sending some positive thoughts your son's way. I hope you have a great weekend too!!
Awww...I feel your frustration! I know you can get through this because you did make that many square already. Just a little more! Make sure to take a little break from the project here and there when you get overwhelmed. xoxo, Amy
GOOD LUCK ON YOUR CROCHETING.....IT CAN BE A REAL BUMMER IF YOU DON'T COUNT RIGHT....BUT DON'T FRET TAMMY HAS THE RIGHT IDEA.....YOU CAN USE THE SQUARES TO MAKE SOMETHING ELSE...
BUT IT WILL ALL COME TOGETHER AND IT WILL BE BEAUTIFUL....JUST LIKE ALL THE REST OF YOUR BEAUTIFUL CROCHET ITEMS.....GOOD LUCK TO YOUR SON....

Ah, counting..... Sigh. Drives me insane. I easily loose my patience (what little I do have) when required to count. Perhaps this is why I do not challenge myself too much - because I hate having to count!!! Your vest is gorgeous BTW. Love the colors!!!
